Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is one of the most deadly malignancies with an increasing incidence rate and limited therapeutic options. Biological sex has an impact on many aspects of PDAC development and response to therapy, yet it is highly unappreciated in both basic and translational research, and worryingly in PDAC clinical trials. In this review, we summarize how biological sex influences PDAC incidence and mortality, genetic and epigenetic landscapes, anti-tumor immunity, responses to hormones, cachexia, and the efficacy of therapy.

Cultured meat technology is a form of cellular agriculture where meat is produced from animal cells grown in a lab, instead of raising and slaughtering animals. This technology relies heavily on fetal bovine serum (FBS) in cell media; hence, production is costly and contributes significantly to ammonia and greenhouse gas emissions. Achieving the successful commercialization of cell-cultured food requires the critical resolution of manufacturing cost and safety concerns.

Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a global public health threat that affects cancer patients more than the general population. In this work, a composite system based on Zn-alginate hydrogel and activated charcoal (AC) particles that, upon contact with physiological fluids, simultaneously releases bioactive agents (Zn and AC particles impregnated with povidone-iodine) was designed to locally address specific problems characteristic for malignant wounds (MWs). This composite was comprehensively investigated in vitro regarding its morphology (field-emission scanning electron microscopy), Zn release (flame atomic absorption spectrometry), iodine adsorption and desorption from AC particles (energy dispersive X-ray analysis and UV-visible spectroscopy) as well as its antimicrobial and antitumor activity.

Alterations in the actin cytoskeleton correlates to tumor progression and affect critical cellular processes such as adhesion, migration and invasion. Rho-associated coiled-coil-containing protein kinases (ROCK1 and ROCK2), important regulators of the actin cytoskeleton, are frequently overexpressed in various malignancies. The aim of this study was therefore to identify the key structural features of ROCK1/ROCK2 inhibitors using computer-aided drug design (CADD) approaches.

Introduction: To facilitate global implementation of lung cancer (LC) screening and early detection in a quality assured and consistent manner, common terminology is needed. Researchers and clinicians within different specialties may use the same terms but with different meanings or different terms for the same intended meanings.
Methods: The Diagnostics Working Group of the International Association for the Study of Lung Cancer Early Detection and Screening Committee has analyzed and discussed relevant terms used on a regular basis and suggests recommendations for consensus definitions of terminology applicable in this setting.

In this paper, three different Zn(II) complexes with ()-2-(2-(1-(6-bromopyridin-2-yl)ethylidene)hydrazinyl)-,,-trimethyl-2-oxoethan-1-aminium chloride (HLCl) have been synthesized and characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction, elemental analysis, IR and NMR spectroscopy. All complexes are mononuclear, with the ligand (L) coordinated in a deprotonated formally neutral zwitterionic form NNO donor set atoms. Complex 1 forms an octahedral geometry with the composition [ZnL](BF), while complexes 2 [ZnL(NCO)] and 3 [ZnL(N)] form penta-coordinated geometry.

Acute myeloid leukemia (LAML) is one of the most prevalent hematological malignancies. In recent years, while targeted approaches have shown promise in the fight against cancer, the treatability and prognosis of patients remain inadequate due to the shortage of drugs. Noncoding RNAs, especially circular RNA (circRNA) and microRNA (miRNA), have been shown to play a unique role in tumor development.

Background: Recent evidence brought by novel anti-human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 (HER2) antibody-drug conjugates is leading to significant changes in HER2-negative breast cancer (BC) best practices. A new targetable category termed 'HER2-low' has been identified in tumors previously classified as 'HER2-negative'. Daily practice in pathology and medical oncology is expected to align to current recommendations, but patient access to novel anticancer drugs across geographies might be impeded due to local challenges.

Nischarin was reported to be a tumor suppressor that plays a critical role in breast cancer initiation and progression, and a positive prognostic marker in breast, ovarian and lung cancers. Our group has found that nischarin had positive prognostic value in female melanoma patients, but negative in males. This opened up a question whether nischarin has tumor type-specific and sex-dependent roles in cancer progression.
