Background: The QT interval in ECG is susceptible to autonomic fluctuations, a known occurrence in acute ischemic stroke (AIS). Previous research has highlighted QT interval changes between ischemic and haemorrhagic strokes. However, there is scarce literature on the differential effect of AIS subtypes on QT interval.

Background: Interleukin-6 (IL-6) plays a central role in sepsis-induced cytokine storm involving immune hyperactivation and early neutrophil activation. Programmed death protein-1 (PD-1) is associated with sepsis-induced immunosuppression and lymphocyte apoptosis. However, the effects of simultaneous blockade of IL-6 and PD-1 in a murine sepsis model are not well understood.

Purpose: Waste mismanagement is a growing concern in developing countries where unsustainable practices such as open dumping and open burning are rampant. This study examined the risk perceptions of the residents living in proximity to the Brahmapuram dump yard, situated in Ernakulam district of Kerala State, India- A site marked by persistent local protests, public outrage, and legal disputes arising from issues related to waste mismanagement. The study focused on the geospatial and sociodemographic factors that might influence these perceptions.

The widespread adoption and commercialization of lateral flow assays (LFAs) for clinical diagnosis have been hindered by limitations in sensitivity, specificity, and the absence of quantitative data. To address these challenges, we developed aptamer-architectured gold nanoparticles as nanozymes that catalytically convert -phenylenediamine (PPD) into Bandrowski's base (BB), thereby amplifying signal strength and sensitivity. The physiochemical properties of the nanozymes were characterized and their specific binding efficiency was demonstrated using experimental studies.

Phaeohyphomycotic agents causing central nervous system (CNS) infection is rare and is known to affect immunocompetent individuals. We present a patient with a CNS phaeohyphomycotic abscess that had developed within a temporal lobe glioma. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) performed two months prior to the surgery showed only the presence of a neoplasm.

Compound K (CK), an active ingredient in ginseng, has anti-cancer, anti-inflammatory, and antioxidant properties. However, its effects on thermogenesis and mitochondrial dynamics in white adipose tissue (WAT) adipocytes are not well understood. This study explores CK's impact on thermogenesis and mitochondrial metabolism in cold-exposed mice and mouse stromal vascular fraction (SVF) cells.

Background And Objectives: Cryptogenic strokes account for 20%-25% of all ischemic strokes. Although atrial cardiopathy markers are more prevalent in the cryptogenic embolic stroke of undetermined source (ESUS) subgroup than in the nonembolic stroke subgroup, the utility of individual parameters in predicting cardioembolic sources needs to be studied further. We studied the clinical, imaging, and atrial cardiopathy markers in three ischemic stroke subtypes - large artery atherosclerosis (LAA), cardioembolism (CE), and cryptogenic ESUS - and their role in predicting the source of CE.

A collagen-inspired helical protein-mimic has been synthesized via topochemical polymerization of a designed tripeptide monomer. In the monomer crystal, molecules arrange in a head-to-tail manner, forming supramolecular helices. The azide and alkyne of adjacent molecules in the supramolecular helix are proximally preorganized in a ready-to-react arrangement.

Acute kidney injury (AKI) is a clinical syndrome characterized by a rapid decline in renal function. Renal ischemia-reperfusion injury (RIRI) is one of the main causes of AKI with the underlying mechanism incompletely clarified. The liver X receptors (LXRs), including LXRα and LXRβ, are members of the nuclear receptor superfamily.

Psoriasis is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by abnormal immune responses and keratinocyte hyperproliferation. Limonin, a bioactive compound found in citrus fruits, has anti-inflammatory properties in various models; however, its effects on psoriasis are not fully understood. We investigated the therapeutic potential of limonin in a 12-O-tetradecanoylphorbol-13-acetate (TPA)-induced psoriasis mouse model.

Background: The role of imaging in autoimmune encephalitis (AIE) remains unclear, and there are limited data on the utility of magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to diagnose, treat, or prognosticate AIE.
Purpose: To evaluate whether MRI is a diagnostic and prognostic marker for AIE and assess its efficacy in distinguishing between various AIE subtypes.
Material And Methods: We analyzed data from 96 AIE patients from our prospective autoimmune registry.

Background: The Field Epidemiology Training Program Frontline, initiated by the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency in 2019, aims to enhance the competencies of infectious disease practitioners across 17 regions in South Korea. With the September 2024 amendment to the Infectious Disease Prevention Act mandating infectious disease prevention and crisis response training for government employees who are associated with infectious diseases responses, there is an urgent need to assess and optimize the effectiveness and cost-efficiency of such competency-based education programs amidst constraints of budget and manpower.
Methods: This study examined the educational needs and priorities of public health competencies among infectious disease practitioners.

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly challenged healthcare systems worldwide, particularly in India, a country already burdened with a high prevalence of Neglected Tropical Diseases (NTDs). This perspective examines the pandemic's direct and indirect impacts on the prevalence, diagnosis, and management of NTDs in India. Using a narrative review approach, we analyzed literature published between January 2020 and September 2023 from databases such as PubMed, Scopus, and Google Scholar, along with grey literature.

The formation of the pyroglutamate variant of amyloid beta (pGlu-Aβ), which is extremely hydrophobic, rapidly aggregating, and highly neurotoxic, is mediated by the action of secretory glutaminyl cyclase (sQC). The pGlu-Aβ often acts as a seed for the aggregation of the full length Aβ and contributes to the overall load of Aβ plaques in Alzheimer's disease (AD). Therefore, inhibiting sQC is a potential approach to limit the formation of pGlu-Aβ and to modify the progression of AD.

In this work, the interaction behaviour of gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) with o-phenylenediamine (OPD) was studied to ascertain the nanozyme-substrate interaction. The UV-Vis absorption, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy and zeta potential analysis revealed that the electron-rich nitrogen atoms in OPD showed a stronger affinity toward electron-deficient surface, indicating a stronger interaction between nanozyme and substrate molecules. Subsequently, under optimum conditions, AuNPs are used as nanozyme to catalyze the oxidation of OPD in the presence of HO.

Background And Objective: Cerebral aneurysms occur as balloon-like outpouchings in an artery, which commonly develop at the weak curved regions and bifurcations. When aneurysms are detected, understanding the risk of rupture is of immense clinical value for better patient management. Towards this, Fluid-Structure Interaction (FSI) studies can improve our understanding of the mechanics behind aneurysm initiation, progression, and rupture.

Introduction: Blood groups documented in motor vehicle driving licenses can provide quick information during emergency transfusion requirements and imbibe self-awareness about one's blood group. The tendency of applicants to mention blood groups without verification during the application may result in incorrect documentation of blood groups in their driving license. The study aims to assess the reliability of the blood groups in driving licenses and their association with sociodemographic variables.
