The latest advancements in dentin bonding have focused on strategies to impair degradation mechanisms in order to extend the longevity of bonded interfaces. Protease inhibitors can reduce collagen degradation within the hybrid layer (HL). Collagen cross-linkers allow better adhesive infiltration and also inhibit proteases activity.

Background: Describing how genetic history shapes the pattern of medically relevant variants could improve the understanding of how specific loci interact with each other and affect diseases and traits prevalence. The Qatari population is characterized by a complex history of admixture and substructure, and the study of its population genomic features would provide valuable insights into the genetic landscape of functional variants. Here, we analyzed the genomic variation of 186 newly-genotyped healthy individuals from the Qatari peninsula.

Objectives: The World Health Organization recommends induction of labour (IOL) for low risk pregnancy from 41 + 0 gestational weeks (GW). Nevertheless, in Sri Lanka IOL at 40 GW is a common practice. This study compares maternal/newborn outcomes after IOL at 40 GW (IOL40) or 41 GW (IOL41) versus spontaneous onset of labour (SOL).

The skin is the largest organ of the human body, serving as an effective mechanical barrier between the internal milieu and the external environment. The skin is widely considered the first-line defence of the body, with an essential function in rejecting pathogens and preventing mechanical, chemical, and physical damages. Keratinocytes are the predominant cells of the outer skin layer, the epidermis, which acts as a mechanical and water-permeability barrier.

Objectives: Patients with Crohn's disease (CD) usually undergo magnetic resonance enterography (MRE) for evaluating small bowel involvement. Musculoskeletal symptoms are the most frequent extraintestinal manifestation in inflammatory bowel diseases, especially in CD, with sacroiliitis at imaging occurring in about 6-46% of patients and possibly correlating with axial spondyloarthritis. The primary study aim was to assess the prevalence of sacroiliitis in adult and pediatric patients with CD performing an MRE.

Introduction: The ongoing coronavirus disease 19 (COVID-19) outbreak involves the pediatric population, but to date, few reports have investigated the circulation of variants among children.
Material And Methods: In this retrospective study, non-hospitalized pediatric patients with SARS-CoV-2-positive nasopharyngeal swabs (NPS) were enrolled at the Institute for Maternal and Child Health-IRCCS Burlo Garofolo, Trieste (Italy), from November 2020 to January 2022. SARS-CoV-2 variants were identified by in vitro viral isolation, amplification, automatic sequencing of the receptor binding domain (RBD) of the SARS-CoV-2 spike coding gene, and subsequent next-generation sequencing.

Few Italian and European studies have assessed adherence to dietary recommendations in primary school children using dietary records. No Italian studies have provided an index-based nutritional adequacy assessment. We provided a comprehensive overview of dietary intake in 381 7-year-old children from NAC-II cohort study, Friuli Venezia Giulia (Italy).

Surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS) spectra of faecal samples can be obtained by adding AuNP to their methanol extracts according to the reported protocol, and display bands that are due to bilirubin-like species but also to xanthine and hypoxanthine, two metabolic products secreted by gut bacteria. A total of 27 faecal samples from three different groups, i.e.

Background: Non-painful diagnostic procedures require an inactive state for a prolonged time, so that sedation is often needed in younger children to perform the procedures. Our standard of care in this setting consists of the association between oral midazolam (0.5 mg/kg) and intranasal dexmedetomidine (4 mcg/kg).

Unhealthy dietary habits established in early infancy may lead to under or over nutrition later in life. This paper describes the energy, nutrients and food-type intake of 18-month-old infants belonging to the Italian PHIME cohort ( 389) and evaluates adherence to the Italian dietary reference values (DRVs). Infant dietary data were collected using 7-day dietary records.

Infectious complications are the most common and significant cause of mortality and morbidity after allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplantation (HSCT). Antibacterial prophylaxis in pediatric cancer patients is a controversial issue. Our study compared the outcomes of levofloxacin versus ciprofloxacin prophylaxis in allogeneic HSCT pediatric recipients treated for hematological malignancies.

Objective: In this study, we evaluated the influence of taste phenotypes and genotypes on the hedonics of sweetened and unsweetened coffee.
Methods: Liking of espresso coffee from food questionnaire and of a ready-to-drink unsweetened coffee beverage was measured using a 9-point hedonic scale in 1551 Italian individuals. Perception and liking for different bitter and sweet compounds were also collected.

Although the effectiveness of probiotics has only been proven in specific conditions, their use in children is massively widespread because of their perception as harmless products. Recent evidence raises concerns about probiotics' safety, especially but not only in the paediatric population due to severe opportunistic infections after their use. This review aimed at summarising available case reports on invasive infections related to probiotics' use in children.

Background: Functional gastrointestinal disorders (FGIDs) are chronic and recurrent disorders, which affect up to 23% of children and adolescents and represent 50% of gastroenterological accesses. The association between FGIDs diagnosed at paediatric age and the onset of migraine or headache and neuropsychiatric diseases in adolescence and adulthood is widely reported in the literature. However, there is still limited knowledge about the long-term prognosis and risk factors for neuropsychiatric pathologies and other comorbidities.

Stringent formulation requirements are defined to intrathecally administer drug substances, avoiding neurological complications. In case of pediatric patients, these are further complicated due to the limited volumes of the celebrospinal fluid and, therefore, high concentrated solutions of methotrexate (MTX), cytarabine and corticosteroids (i.e.

In healthy adolescents, delayed pubarche is generally a benign condition that is caused by a physiological discrepancy between gonadarche and adrenarche. In presence of other clinical signs and symptoms, delayed pubarche can be caused by single or multiple hormones deficiency (such as adrenal insufficiency, panhypopituitarism and hypothyroidism) and/or genetic conditions (Turner syndrome, androgen insensitivity syndrome). Exposition to endocrine disruptors has also been described as a possible cause of delay of pubic hair development.

Differences in taste perception have been related to eating behavior, nutritional status, and diseases. Recently, taste receptors have been identified in several extra-oral tissues, such as the gastrointestinal tract, where they seem to influence processes like digestion, sense of satiety as well as energy balance and intraluminal changes occurring in obesity. Our study aims to analyze differences in taste perception among 42 obese patients (OB) and 41 normal-weight subjects (LEAN).
