Glycerol is employed as a functional component of heat-transfer fluids, which are of use in both bioreactors and various biosensor devices. At the same time, flowing glycerol was reported to cause considerable triboelectric effects. Herein, by using atomic force microscopy (AFM), we have revealed the long-term effect of glycerol flow, stopped in a ground-shielded coiled heat exchanger, on horseradish peroxidase (HRP) adsorption on mica.

Microalgae possess the prospective to be efficiently involved in bioremediation and biodiesel generation. However, conditions of stress often restrict their growth and diminish different metabolic processes. The current study evaluates the potential of GABA to improve the growth of the microalga Chlorella sorokiniana under Cr (III) stress through the exogenous administration of GABA.

The latter substances significantly intensified particle size reduction, while silver formed 'cathodic' sites (Ag, AgAl), promoting Al corrosion in aqueous saline solutions with hydrogen generation. The diffraction patterns, microphotographs, and elemental analysis results demonstrated partial aluminum oxidation in the samples and their contamination with tungsten carbide from milling balls.

It was found after two-years exposure, spore-forming bacteria of the species Bacillus subtilis, fungi of the species Aureobasidium pullulans and archaea of the species Methanosarcina mazei S-6, deposited on cotton wool, are able to survive, and their numbers decreased equally, regardless of whether the microorganisms belong to different taxonomic groups. The main factors for the long-term survival could be the result of their dehydration and partial lyophilization in the vacuum of near-Earth space.

Rapidly rising societal awareness about the planet sustainability through developing environmentally friendly and biodegradable alternatives to current impact of plastics waste represents an emerging need for establishing a circular bioeconomy of cleaner, safer, greener, and sustainable future. Until now, no investigation has been done on edible tableware made from leftover fruit peels. Presently, Kinnow mandarin is the most commercially farmed citrus fruit commodity, with the highest production, productivity, and popularity among all horticulture crops worldwide, generating vast quantity of peels ending up as putrefying biowaste that impacts ecosystem health.

Nitrogen-doped graphenes were among the first promising metal-free carbon-based catalysts for the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). However, data on the most efficient catalytic centers and their catalytic mechanisms are still under debate. In this work, we study the associative mechanism of the ORR in an alkaline medium on graphene containing various types of nitrogen doping.

Path-integral Monte Carlo simulations in the Wigner approach to quantum mechanics has been applied to calculate momentum and spin-resolved radial distribution functions of the strongly correlated soft-sphere quantum fermions. The obtained spin-resolved radial distribution functions demonstrate arising triplet clusters of fermions, that is the consequence of the interference of exchange and interparticle interactions. The semiclassical analysis in the framework of the Bohr-Sommerfeld quantization condition, applied to the potential of the mean force corresponding to the same-spin radial distribution functions, allows to detect exchange-correlation bound states in triplet clusters and to estimate corresponding averaged energy levels.

This research study aims to potential utilization of Citrus maxima peel waste and optimize the hydrothermal liquefaction process for the production of bio-oil (BO) and bio-char (BC). The effect of several HTL processing variables on BO yield (%) and BC yield (%), including temperature, retention period, and slurry concentration, has been examined using central composite design (CCD) (a three-level three-factor design). The optimized values of HTL process variables were found to be 240 °C (temperature), 52 min (retention time), and 7% (slurry concentration) and the corresponding responses were 5.

Microalgae are a source of highly valuable bioactive metabolites and a high-potential feedstock for environmentally friendly and sustainable biofuel production. Recent research has shown that microalgae benefit the environment using less water than conventional crops while increasing oxygen production and lowering CO emissions. Microalgae are an excellent source of value-added compounds, such as proteins, pigments, lipids, and polysaccharides, as well as a high-potential feedstock for environmentally friendly and sustainable biofuel production.

Production of low-cost biomass and its utilization for producing cost effective and eco-friendly bioenergy as well as for removing heavy metals from water can be explored as an approach to meet the sustainable development goals. In light of the above-mentioned study, hydrothermal liquefaction (HTL) of Billy goat weed (B; Ageratum conyzoides) was carried out to produce bio-oil. In addition, the residual biochar from the HTL process was activated to obtain Act-BC and was further modified to produce MnO-loaded biochar (Act-BC@MnO-25%).

In this article, the experimental measurements of the absorption/desorption P-C-T isotherms of hydrogen in the LaNiFeAl alloy at different temperatures and constant hydrogen pressure have been studied using a numerical model. The mathematics equations of this model contain parameters, such as the two terms, n and n representing the numbers of hydrogen atoms per site; N and N are the receptor sites' densities, and the energetic parameters are P and P. All these parameters are derived by numerically adjusting the experimental data.

The nitrite admixtures in cement and concrete are used as corrosion inhibitors for steel reinforcement and also as anti-freezing agents. The characterization of the protective properties should account for the decrease in the concentration of free NO ions in the pores of cement concretes due to their adsorption. Here we applied the classical molecular dynamics computer simulation approach to quantitatively study the molecular scale mechanisms of nitrite adsorption from NaNO aqueous solution on a portlandite surface.

Recent advancements in "phyco-nanobionics" have sparked considerable interest in the ability of microalgae to synthesize high-value natural bioactive compounds such as carotenoid pigments, which have been highlighted as an emergent and vital bioactive compound from both industrial and scientific perspectives. Such bioactive compounds are often synthesized by either altering the biogenetic processes existing in living microorganisms or using synthetic techniques derived from petroleum-based chemical sources. A bio-hybrid light-driven cell factory system was established herein by using harmful macroalgal bloom extract (HMBE) and efficient light-harvesting silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) to synthesize HMBE-AgNPs and integrating the synthesized HMBE-AgNPs in various concentrations (1, 2.
