Although assisted reproduction technologies (ARTs) are recognised as safe, and most of the offspring seem apparently healthy, there is clear evidence that ARTs are associated with changes in the embryo's developmental trajectory, which incur physiological consequences during the prenatal and postnatal stages of life. The advent of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) in mammals involved an extraordinary change in the environment where the beginning of a new organism takes place. Under in vitro conditions, in which ART is currently being performed, it likely fails to mimic optimal in vivo conditions. An experiment of divergent selection for intramuscular fat was carried out at Universitat Politècnica de València. The high response of selection in intramuscular fat content, after nine generations of selection, and a multidimensional scaling analysis showed a high degree of genomic differentiation between the two divergent populations. Therefore, local genomic differences could link genomic regions, encompassing selective sweeps, to the trait used as selection criterion.

Some components of soluble fibre appear to have prebiotic effects that can contribute to improving digestive health in post-weaning rabbits. In this work, a fenugreek seed gum (FGS), extracted from seeds and rich in galactomannan, was characterised. The objectives of this study were to analyse the differences in the genetic determination of functional longevity in five Spanish lines of rabbits and to check how different systematic factors might affect this genetic determination. Four of the lines were maternal (lines A, V, H and LP), these lines were established selecting base generation animals according to different criteria, but in the subsequent generations all of them were selected for litter size at weaning. The other is the paternal line R, this line was constituted by selecting animals with an outstanding daily growth rate.

The aim of this study was to research the effect of the genetic background (Retinto, Torbiscal, and their reciprocal crosses) on the subcutaneous fatty acids and the sensory characteristics of dry-cured shoulders from Iberian pig, and also to investigate whether there is some interaction between genotype and diet composition when pigs are reared indoors, to obtain information to improve the selection strategies for purebred Iberian pig. The genetic background affected both the fatty acid composition (C17:0, C17:1 n-7, C18:3 n-3 and C20:0 were significantly different) and the sensory characteristics (marbling, lean fibrousness, and flavour intensity and persistence were significantly influenced), which indicates that they should be taken into account in the selection strategies for purebred Iberian pig. In a similar way, the genotype × diet composition interaction also should be taken into account when selecting a genetic line or cross to be fed indoors on a particular diet because of its repercussion on the sensory characteristics.
