This study assessed the impact of growth-related myopathies-white striping (WS), wooden breast (WB), and spaghetti meat (SM)-on the technological properties, lipid and protein oxidation, chemical composition, and profiles of fatty acids (FAs), amino acids, minerals, and sensory attributes of muscles in broiler chickens. Breasts with myopathies had similar pH and lightness but exhibited lower redness and yellowness in the case of WB defect compared to normal meat ( < 0.05).

In vitro embryo culture often falls short of mimicking the physiological dynamism occurring in the reproductive tract, prompting developmental plasticity in mammalian embryos with consequential genotypic and phenotypic deviations. Recent research highlights the potential of biological derivatives in in vitro culture to mitigate these effects, being the extracellular matrix (ECM) one of the most important components in retaining structural and biological signals derived from the native source tissue. Current bioengineering techniques could provide ECM-based biomaterials mimicking the native environment and offering optimal embryonic development.

Tyramine, a trace monoamine produced from tyrosine by decarboxylation and found naturally in foods, plants, and animals, is a suspected virulence factor of Melissococcus plutonius that causes European foulbrood in honey bee brood. In the present study, we developed a method for quantitative analysis of tyramine in culture medium and honey bee larvae with a limit of quantitation of 3 ng/mL and a recovery rate of >97% using Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry/Mass Spectrometry and deuterium-labeled tyramine, demonstrating for the first time that a highly virulent M. plutonius strain actually produces tyramine in infected larvae.

This study provides a thorough comparison of the plasma metabolome of two rabbit lines divergently selected for intramuscular fat content (IMF). The divergent selection led to a correlated response in the overall adiposity, turning these lines into a valuable animal material to study also the genetics of obesity. Over 900 metabolites were detected, and the adjustment of multivariate models, both discriminant and linear, allowed to identify 322 with differential abundances between lines, which also adjusted linearly to the IMF content.

The main aim of this work was to evaluate a novel combination of the first limiting amino acids (lysine, methionine, and threonine) in fast-growing rabbits (combination MHL, shown to minimise levels of plasmatic urea nitrogen in previous research, medium level of lysine, high level of methionine, and low level of threonine) and compare it with current recommendations (combination MMM, medium level of all amino acids). A total of 165 weaned rabbits (28 d old) from a paternal line selected for growth rate were used in the growth trial. A total of 197 nulliparous rabbits (from three paternal lines) were used to test potential strategies to overcome the consequences on reproduction associated with the selection for high growth rate. The R line was selected for growth rate during the growing period for 37 generations, the RF line was founded through a high selection intensity of elite animals of the R line, and the RFLP line, which was obtained by backcrossing RF animals with the LP line (a long-lived productive maternal line, characterised by high resilience). BW, perirenal fat thickness, fertility, daily feed intake, milk yield and blood metabolites of females were controlled from 1st artificial insemination to 3rd parturition.
