The oviduct provides the optimal micro milieu for early embryo development. However, accessing the bovine oviductal fluid in vivo for analysis is still challenging and therefore the oviductal fluid is usually collected post mortem. In the study presented here we introduce a novel approach to gain minimal invasive access to the bovine oviductal fluid proteome in vivo by transvaginal endoscopy at different stages of the estrous cycle.

The thyroid hormone axis is one important endocrine system within a complex system of various factors and hormones necessary to establish and maintain pregnancy in cattle and in metabolic adaptations towards lactation. Pregnancy and lactation occur contemporaneously in dairy cows, and have major impacts on thyroid hormones as well as status of the hypothalamus-pituitary thyroid axis influences pregnancy and lactation. Research synthesis, eg, by meta-analysis, is more and more considered in the area of high-dimensional data from molecular research such as gene and protein expression data, especially because most studies and experiments are performed with very small sample sizes. In contrast to most clinical and epidemiological trials, raw data are often available for high-dimensional expression data. Therefore, direct data merging followed by a joint analysis of selected studies can be an alternative to meta-analysis by P value or effect-size merging or, more generally spoken, the merging of results.

In cattle, particular chondrodysplastic forms have been identified in several miniature breeds. Canine circoviruses (CanineCV's), belonging to the genus Circovirus of the Circoviridae family, were detected by next generation sequencing in samples from Thai dogs with respiratory symptoms. Genetic characterization and phylogenetic analysis of nearly complete CanineCV genomes suggested that natural recombination had occurred among different lineages of CanineCV's. Similarity plot and bootscaning analyses indicated that American and Chinese viruses had served as major and minor parental viruses, respectively.
