This study aimed to find the parsimonious random regression model (RRM) to evaluate the genetic potential for milk yield (MY), fat content (FC), and protein content (PC) in Tunisian Holstein cows. For this purpose, 551,139; 331,654; and 302,396 test day records for MY, FC, and PC were analysed using various RRMs with different Legendre polynomials (LP) orders on additive genetic (AG) and permanent environmental (PE) effects, and different types of residual variances (RV). The statistical analysis was performed in a Bayesian framework with Gibbs sampling, and the model performances were assessed, mainly, on the predictive ability criteria.

Gluten-free cereal products have grown in popularity in recent years as they are perceived as "healthier" alternatives and can be safely consumed by celiac patients, and people with gluten intolerance or wheat allergies. Molds that produce mycotoxins contaminate cereal crops, posing a threat to global food security. Some lactic acid bacteria (LAB) strains have the ability to synthesize riboflavin, a trait linked to the presence of ribG, ribB, ribA and ribH genes in the rib operon. Multiple sequence alignments of these genes showed that these sequences are not identical in different LAB species, so primers designed to detect these genes in one species do not always work with others. Therefore, we designed degenerate primers based on sequences from Lactococcus lactis MG1363, Levilactobacillus brevis ATCC 367 and Limosilactobacillus fermentum IFO3956, and established optimal PCR conditions for the detection of rib genes in different LAB species.

Pesticides residues can occur in ground and surface waters, and potentially react with chemicals used for water disinfection treatments, such as chlorine. This can lead to the formation of unknown reaction products, which can be more toxic and/or persistent than the active substances themselves, and therefore become a potential risk for human health and environment. The aim was to assess the reproductive efficiency of different techniques used to preserve spermatozoa in artificial insemination semen doses (AI-doses) by evaluating refrigeration at 15°C, cryopreservation and encapsulation. The aim of this study was to assess whether vulvar morphometric changes occurring in female pigs during proestrus and oestrus could be objective, accurate and predictive indicators of the onset to oestrus and thus performed artificial inseminations at the most appropriate time. For that purpose, pictures of vulvas from 60 hyperprolific females (30 gilts and 30 sows) during proestrus and oestrus were taken once a day. Although sharing the same legal framework, chemicals and microorganisms used as pesticides have different risk profiles especially because once released into the environment, microbial active substances may produce secondary metabolites, multiply, spread and possibly genetically adapt or transfer antimicrobial resistance genes to other microorganisms. This nationwide monitoring aimed to investigate the prevalence of residues of plant protection products (PPPs) and veterinary medicine products (VMPs) based on random selection of apiaries of Apis mellifera. For a three-year period (2012, 2013 and 2016), this study targeted 306 PPPs, VMPs and other active substances in 442 samples of bee bread honeycomb (BBHC) and 89 samples of honeybees collected from up to 177 apiaries. The results indicate that honeybees were most often exposed to residues of coumaphos, tau-fluvalinate, chlorfenvinphos, and acrinathrin, with a prevalence from a maximum of 98.
