: Radiography is an essential and low-cost diagnostic method in pulmonary medicine that is used for the early detection and monitoring of lung diseases. An adequate and consistent image quality (IQ) is crucial to ensure accurate diagnosis and effective patient management. This pilot study evaluates the feasibility and effectiveness of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)'s remote and automated quality control (QC) methodology, which has been tested in multiple imaging centers.

The impact of electronic versus paper-based data capture on data collection logistics and on missing scores in thyroid cancer patients.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the impact of the type of data capture on the time and help needed for collecting patient-reported outcomes as well as on the proportion of missing scores.

Methods: In a multinational prospective study, thyroid cancer patients from 17 countries completed a validated questionnaire measuring quality of life. Electronic data capture was compared to the paper-based approach using multivariate logistic regression.

Background: The in vivo characterisation of corneal epithelial tissue morphology is of considerable importance for diagnosis, disease prognosis, and the development of a treatment strategy for ocular surface diseases. In contrast to many alternative methods, in vivo corneal confocal microscopy (CCM) not only provides a macroscopic description of the corneal tissue but also allows its visualisation with cellular resolution. However, the translation of CCM from research to clinical practice is significantly limited by the complex and still largely manual operation of available CCM systems.

[Overweight and obesity in adults: general principles of treatment and conservative management].

The prevalence of overweight and obesity is steadily increasing in Austria as well as internationally. Obesity in particular is associated with multiple health risks, comorbidities, functional disability, and social stigma. Obesity is an independent, complex, chronic disease and should be treated as such by a multidisciplinary team of appropriately qualified personnel.

International Phase IV Field Study for the Reliability and Validity of the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Thyroid Cancer Module EORTC QLQ-THY34.

The aim of this study was to validate the new European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer Quality of Life Thyroid Cancer Module (EORTC QLQ-THY34). We enrolled 437 thyroid cancer patients from 17 countries. One group ( = 303), undergoing treatment or best supportive care, completed the questionnaires at three time points (before therapy [t1], 6 weeks later [t2], and 6 months after t2 [t3]).

Impairments in quality of life and predictors of symptom burden in patients with hypoparathyroidism: results from a population-based survey.

Purpose: To investigate the quality of life (QoL) in patients with hypoparathyroidism (hypoPT) compared to the general population and to identify sociodemographic and clinical factors that are associated with symptom burden.

Methods: Patients with a diagnosis of hypoPT participated in an online survey. Information regarding the survey was distributed by treating physicians or a self-help organization.

Public Perceptions of Climate Change and Health-A Cross-Sectional Survey Study.

Climate change is inseparably linked to human health. Although there is growing awareness of the threats to human health caused by climate change, it remains unclear how the German population perceives the relevance of climate change and its health consequences. Between May and September 2022, German residents were invited to participate in a cross-sectional online survey that explored three content areas: (1) the relevance of climate change, (2) health risks in connection with climate change and (3) collective and individual options for action against climate change.

Frailty as a predictor of mortality and readmission rate in secondary mitral regurgitation.

Introduction: Selection in patients with functional mitral regurgitation (MR) to identify responders to interventions is challenging. In these patients, frailty might be used as a multidimensional parameter to summarize the resilience to stressors. Our objective was to evaluate frailty as a predictor of outcome in patients with moderate to severe secondary MR.

The Rostock Method for Qualitative and Quantitative Evaluation of Intraocular Lenses.

Background: For quantitative and qualitative evaluation of the imaging properties of IOLs, axial cross-sectional images can be obtained from the 3-dimensional light distribution by means of an optical bench, as is known from light sheet recordings in fluorescein baths. This paper presents a new image-processing algorithm to enhance the quality of generated axial cross-sectional images, and the two methods are then compared.

Material And Methods: The 3-dimensional point spread function of a diffractive trifocal IOL (AT LISA tri 839MP, Carl Zeiss Meditec AG, Jena, Germany) was recorded on an optical bench developed in Rostock for different pupil diameters.

The starting point for this concept paper is a summary of the sport-specific health risks currently under discussion: increasing heatwaves, growing numbers of extreme weather events, rising UV, ozone and allergen levels and the spread of infectious diseases.

Design: HypoPT patients at a minimum of 6 months' post diagnosis were invited to participate in an online survey through their treating physician or through self-help organisations METHODS: Impairments of clinical importance in QOL were considered present if the score of the respective functioning scale of the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC) QLQ-C30 exceeded a pre-defined threshold.

BLS courses for refugees are feasible and induce commitment towards lay rescuer resuscitation.

Background: High-quality Basic Life Support (BLS), the first step in the Utstein formula for survival, needs effective education for all kinds of population groups. The feasibility of BLS courses for refugees is not well investigated yet.

The connection between the psychological effect of music of different volumes and rhythms and the change in reaction in road traffic with a corresponding increase in risk behavior, especially when driving, has already been proven in previous studies.

In vivo Histology of the Cornea - from the "Rostock Cornea Module" to the "Rostock Electronic Slit Lamp" - a Clinical "Proof of Concept" Study.

Introduction: Confocal in vivo microscopy is an established method in ophthalmology research. As it requires contact coupling and calibration of the instruments is suboptimal, this method has been only rarely used in clinical routine work. As a result of close collaboration between physicists, information scientists and ophthalmologists, confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM) of the eye has been developed in recent years and a prototype can now be used in patients.

Management of thyroid cancer: results from a German and French patient survey.

Objective: Various national and international guidelines for the management of thyroid cancer exist. The aim of this survey was to evaluate whether patients experience differences regarding the management of thyroid cancer in Germany and in France.

Methods: An online survey addressing diagnosis, treatment, aftercare, and information needs of thyroid cancer survivors was set up by the German and the French nationwide thyroid cancer self-help organizations.

This approach has been widely applied and successfully used for the evaluation of image data in ophthalmology. In this article, the methodological approach of deep learning is examined and compared to the classical approach for digital image processing.
