Revised International Prognostic (R-IPI) score is used widely for risk stratification of DLBCL cases, yet some patients belonging to same risk category tend to exhibit different outcomes. The role of T-cells and macrophages in prognostication of lymphomas has been a point of interest of late. We aimed to study the association of FOXP3 positive T-regulatory cells, cytotoxic T-cells and macrophages with the immunophenotypic subtypes, clinicopathological characteristics, treatment response and survival in nodal diffuse large B-cell lymphoma (DLBCL) patients.

Introduction: Mycobacterium tuberculosis has been extensively studied for mutations leading to drug resistance. Pyrazinamide is a drug acting on the semi-dormant bacteria that is responsible for relapse of tuberculosis. This drug helped reduce the treatment duration of tuberculosis from nine to six months.

Purpose And Objectives: Phantom limb pain (PLP) is a major cause of physical limitation and disability accounting for about 85% of amputated patients. Mirror therapy is used as a therapeutic modality for patients with phantom limb pain. Primary objective was to study the incidence of PLP at 6 months following below-knee amputation between the mirror therapy group and control group.

The International Society on Thrombosis and Hemostasis bleeding assessment tool (ISTH-BAT) was developed to record bleeding symptoms and aid in patient diagnosis. This study was done to investigate the utility of ISTH-BAT in patients suspected to have inherited bleeding disorders. This cross-sectional study was conducted in a tertiary care hospital in Southern India over 3 and 1/2 years.

Comparision of the various routine diagnostic modalities of malaria and a new method: the Parasight™ platform.

J Parasit Dis

September 2020

Department of Microbiology, Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research, 2nd Floor, institute Block, JIPMER, Dhanvantri Nagar, Puducherry, 605006 India.

Malaria is one of most important parasitic disease, which is still much prevalent in India. The burden of malaria in India is complex and the proportions of  and  vary across India, because of the highly variable malaria eco-epidemiological profiles, transmission factors, and the presence of multiple  species and  vectors. The diagnostic modalities which were being used currently, are at the risk of missing potential malaria cases, if a single test is being used for a given sample.

Background And Aims: Airway ultrasound is an emerging tool to predict difficult laryngoscopy. This study aimed to determine the utility of ultrasound measurement of the anterior soft tissue neck thickness at the level of hyoid, thyrohyoid membrane and thickness of tongue to predict difficult laryngoscopy and compare them with clinical parameters for airway assessment.

Methods: The distance from skin to hyoid bone, skin to the thyrohyoid membrane in neutral and sniffing position and maximum tongue thickness was measured by ultrasound and correlated with Cormack Lehane (CL) laryngoscope view in 310 adult surgical patients.

This work presents a spatial filtering method for the estimation of atrial fibrillation activity in the cutaneous electrocardiogram. A linear extraction filter is obtained by maximising the extractor output power on the significant spectral support of the signal of interest. An iterative procedure based on a quasi-maximum likelihood estimator is proposed to jointly estimate the significant spectral support and the extraction filter.
