Background: People with common mental disorders (CMD) are prone to experience work disabilities, which can lead to sick leave. To support their recovery and return to work, evidence recommends providing a combination of primary care services including psychological and work rehabilitation interventions. Furthermore, interventions to coordinate return to work are required to ensure timely access to services and concerted action among stakeholders.

Objectives: The COVID-19 pandemic had a huge impact on global mental health. Health care students, both as young people and regarding their student condition, were a more at-risk population. During the first and the third waves, two national surveys already found high levels of psychological distress (21 to 83% of severe psychological distress).

Institut National de Recherche et de Sécurité, Département Homme Au Travail, 1, Rue Du Morvan CS 60027, 54519, Vandoeuvre Cedex, France.

Occupational exoskeletons hold promise in preventing musculoskeletal disorders, but their effectiveness relies on their long-term use by workers. This study aims to characterize the adoption process of occupational exoskeletons by analyzing the experiences of 25 operators. Using a mixed-methods approach, both quantitative and qualitative data were collected before and during a four-week familiarization period.

Article Synopsis
  • A bacterium can grow in the human stomach, causing chronic inflammation, peptic ulcers, and cancer, and this study focuses on its prevalence among Nunavik's Inuit population using data from 2004 and 2017.
  • The study found high rates of colonization (70.9%) and associated issues like gastritis (11.2%) and peptic ulcers (2.4%), with few cases of gastric cancer reported.
  • Factors influencing higher colonization included the number of people in a household and age, while drinking municipal or natural water and lower alcohol consumption were linked to reduced colonization rates.

High-resolution spatial and spatiotemporal modelling of air pollution using fixed site and mobile monitoring in a Canadian city.

Environ Pollut

September 2024

Air Pollution Exposure Science Section, Water and Air Quality Bureau, Healthy Environments and Consumer Safety Branch, Health Canada, Government of Canada, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. Electronic address:

The development of high-resolution spatial and spatiotemporal models of air pollutants is essential for exposure science and epidemiological applications. While fixed-site sampling has conventionally provided input data for statistical predictive models, the evolving mobile monitoring method offers improved spatial resolution, ideal for measuring pollutants with high spatial variability such as ultrafine particles (UFP). The Quebec Air Pollution Exposure and Epidemiology (QAPEE) study measured and modelled the spatial and spatiotemporal distributions of understudied pollutants, such as UFPs, black carbon (BC), and brown carbon (BrC), along with fine particulate matter (PM), nitrogen dioxide (NO), and ozone (O) in Quebec City, Canada.

Unlabelled: The detection of infections (CDI) relies on testing the stool of patients by toxin antigen detection or PCR methods. Although PCR and antigenic methods have significantly reduced the time to results, delays in stool collection can significantly add to the turnaround time. The use of rectal swabs to detect could considerably reduce the time to diagnosis of CDI.

March 2024

Univ Rennes, Inserm, EHESP, IRSET (Institut de Recherche en Santé, Environnement et Travail) - UMR_S 1085, Avenue du Professeur Léon Bernard, Rennes, F-35000, France.

Background And Aims: Chlordecone is a persistent organochlorinated insecticide, extensively used in the French West Indies and has been contaminating the population for more than thirty years. Its potentiation effect on hepatotoxic agents has been demonstrated in animal models. We investigated the relationship between environmental exposure to chlordecone and the progression of liver fibrosis.

Background: More than half the cobalt needed for vehicle electrification originates from the southern part of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), with a substantial part being extracted by artisanal miners.

Aims: To investigate oxygen saturation during underground work among cobalt artisanal miners.

Methods: In a field survey, we measured oxygen saturation (SpO2) and heart rate by pulse oximetry in 86 miners from two underground mines and 24 miners from a surface mine at four different time points: before descent into the mine (T1), at 50 minutes in the mine (T2), upon leaving the shaft (T3), and 10 minutes after having left the mine (T4).

Article Synopsis
  • Immunocompromised individuals tend to experience longer SARS-CoV-2 infections, increasing the chances for new mutations, especially in the spike protein, which is important for vaccines.
  • A study in Paris analyzed samples from 444 immunocompromised patients and 234 healthcare workers, finding greater genetic diversity of the virus in the immunocompromised group.
  • The research indicated that mutations in the viruses from immunocompromised patients contributed to the evolution of new variants, suggesting potential concerns for immune response and severity of future infections.

Background: The impact of work-related asthma (WRA) on quality of life (QoL) and work productivity remains largely neglected/uncertain despite its high prevalence.

Objective: To investigate the association of WRA with QoL and work productivity as compared with subjects with non-WRA and those without asthma and rhinitis.

Methods: A cross-sectional survey was carried out among workers during their periodic occupational health visit in Belgium.

Background And Objectives: Septic transfusion reactions (STRs) occur as a result of bacterial contamination of blood or blood products, resulting in sepsis. This scoping review aimed to identify, explore and map the available literature on the STR criteria triggering the investigation of STR.

Materials And Methods: Four electronic databases (MEDLINE, Web of Science, Science Direct, Embase) were searched to retrieve scientific literature reporting such criteria, published from 1 January 2000 to 5 May 2022.

In May 2020, the Direction de santé publique du CIUSSS de la Capitale-Nationale (DSPu) received a report from the Laboratoire de santé publique du Québec of a cluster of three cases of Salmonella enterica enterica, serogroup C1, serotype Montevideo. The epidemiological investigation identified a total of 67 cases between January 1, 2020, and August 13, 2021, 66% of which were directly linked to a restaurant in the area. The Salmonella strains from most of these cases were found to be identical by whole-genome sequencing (cluster code 2005MontWGS-1QC).

Frequent emergency department use is associated with many adverse events, such as increased risk for hospitalization and mortality. Frequent users have complex needs and associated factors are commonly evaluated using logistic regression. However, other machine learning models, especially those exploiting the potential of large databases, have been less explored.
