Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may present different symptoms. The clinical importance of symptom clustering is supported by the difference in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases between hypersomnolent and non-hypersomnolent sleep apnea patients. The objective of this study was to determine if quality-of-life clusters could be identified from the Quebec Sleep Questionnaire (QSQ) in OSA patients.

Low circulating levels of insulin-like growth-factor binding protein-2 (IGFBP-2) have been associated with increased adiposity and metabolic alterations such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in individuals with obesity. However, whether IGFBP-2 affects energy metabolism in the early stages of these disorders remains unclear. Herein, we hypothesized that plasma IGFBP-2 concentrations are inversely associated with early liver fat accumulation and alterations in lipid and glucose homeostasis in apparently healthy and asymptomatic men and women.

Introduction: The progression of complications of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is unique to each patient and can be depicted through individual temporal trajectories. Latent growth modeling approaches (latent growth mixture models [LGMM] or latent class growth analysis [LCGA]) can be used to classify similar individual trajectories in non-observed groups (latent groups), sharing common characteristics. Although increasingly used in the field of T2D, many questions remain regarding the utilization of these methods.

Body image and health-related behaviors among fitspirit participants.

BMC Public Health

September 2022

Centre de recherche de l'Institut universitaire de cardiologie et de pneumologie de Québec, Université Laval (IUCPQ-UL), Québec City, Québec, Canada.

Background: Body image variables such as body size perception (BSP) and body size dissatisfaction (BSD) can influence health-related behaviors. However, few studies have investigated these body image variables in adolescent girls participating in a physical activity intervention. Therefore, the study objectives were to examine the 1) associations between health-related behaviors (physical activity, screen-time, eating habits and sleep duration) and BSP and BSD among girls participating in FitSpirit, a physical activity intervention for girls; and 2) influence of weight control practices on the association between health-related behaviors and BSP and BSD.

Latent Causes of Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

JACC Clin Electrophysiol

June 2022

Center for Cardiovascular Innovation, Heart Rhythm Services, Division of Cardiology, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada; Victorian Heart Institute, Monash University, Clayton, Victoria, Australia.

Inherited arrhythmia syndromes are a common cause of apparently unexplained cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac death. These include long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome, with a well-recognized phenotype in most patients with sufficiently severe disease to lead to cardiac arrest. Less common and typically less apparent conditions that may not be readily evident include catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, short QT syndrome and early repolarization syndrome.

Inflammation has profound but poorly understood effects on metabolism, especially in the context of obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here, we report that hepatic interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) is a direct transcriptional regulator of glucose homeostasis through induction of , a component of serine/threonine phosphatase PP2A, and subsequent suppression of glucose production. Global ablation of IRF3 in mice on a high-fat diet protected against both steatosis and dysglycemia, whereas hepatocyte-specific loss of IRF3 affects only dysglycemia.
