Patients with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) may present different symptoms. The clinical importance of symptom clustering is supported by the difference in the incidence of cardiovascular diseases between hypersomnolent and non-hypersomnolent sleep apnea patients. The objective of this study was to determine if quality-of-life clusters could be identified from the Quebec Sleep Questionnaire (QSQ) in OSA patients.

Rationale: Severe asthma affects a small proportion of asthmatics but represents a significant healthcare challenge. Bronchial thermoplasty (BT) is an interventional treatment approach preconized for uncontrolled severe asthma after considering biologics therapy. It was showed that BT long-lastingly improves asthma control.

Background: In patients with refractory atrial fibrillation (AF), atrioventricular nodal (AVN) ablation and permanent pacemaker implantation is recommended. The Micra Transcatheter Pacing System (Micra) is a single chamber leadless pacemaker (LPM) and thus offers the possibility of AV node (AVN) ablation in the same procedure. Pacing threshold (PT) elevation after radiofrequency (RF) ablation is a potential complication.

Short-coupled ventricular fibrillation (SCVF) is a distinct phenotype among individuals with unexplained cardiac arrest accounting for 7% to 14% of cases of idiopathic ventricular fibrillation (IVF). VF is typically initiated by a trigger premature ventricular contraction with a short-coupling interval of less than 350 milliseconds. In the absence of specific electrocardiographic features or provocative tests, the diagnosis remains challenging and requires documentation of VF onset.

Low circulating levels of insulin-like growth-factor binding protein-2 (IGFBP-2) have been associated with increased adiposity and metabolic alterations such as insulin resistance, dyslipidemia, and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease in individuals with obesity. However, whether IGFBP-2 affects energy metabolism in the early stages of these disorders remains unclear. Herein, we hypothesized that plasma IGFBP-2 concentrations are inversely associated with early liver fat accumulation and alterations in lipid and glucose homeostasis in apparently healthy and asymptomatic men and women.

Introduction: The progression of complications of type 2 diabetes (T2D) is unique to each patient and can be depicted through individual temporal trajectories. Latent growth modeling approaches (latent growth mixture models [LGMM] or latent class growth analysis [LCGA]) can be used to classify similar individual trajectories in non-observed groups (latent groups), sharing common characteristics. Although increasingly used in the field of T2D, many questions remain regarding the utilization of these methods.

Background: Body image variables such as body size perception (BSP) and body size dissatisfaction (BSD) can influence health-related behaviors. However, few studies have investigated these body image variables in adolescent girls participating in a physical activity intervention. Therefore, the study objectives were to examine the 1) associations between health-related behaviors (physical activity, screen-time, eating habits and sleep duration) and BSP and BSD among girls participating in FitSpirit, a physical activity intervention for girls; and 2) influence of weight control practices on the association between health-related behaviors and BSP and BSD.

Objective: The objective of this study was to evaluate the agreement of smartwatch-derived single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) recordings with 12-lead ECGs for diagnosing electrocardiographic abnormalities.
Study Design: A 12-lead ECG and an ECG using Apple Watch were obtained in 110 children (aged 1 week to 16 years) with normal (n = 75) or abnormal (n = 35) 12-lead ECGs (atrioventricular block [7], supraventricular tachycardia [SVT] {5}, bundle branch block [12], ventricular preexcitation [6], long QT [5]). In children aged <6 years, the ECG recording was performed with the active participation of an adult who applied the neonate or child's finger to the crown of the watch.

Inherited arrhythmia syndromes are a common cause of apparently unexplained cardiac arrest or sudden cardiac death. These include long QT syndrome and Brugada syndrome, with a well-recognized phenotype in most patients with sufficiently severe disease to lead to cardiac arrest. Less common and typically less apparent conditions that may not be readily evident include catecholaminergic polymorphic ventricular tachycardia, short QT syndrome and early repolarization syndrome.

Background: The EnSite Precision™ cardiac mapping system (Abbott) is a catheter navigation and mapping system capable of displaying the three-dimensional (3D) position of conventional and sensor-enabled electrophysiology catheters, as well as displaying cardiac electrical activity as waveform traces and dynamic 3D maps of cardiac chambers. The EnSite Precision™ Observational Study (NCT-03260244) was designed to quantify and characterize the use of the EnSite Precision™ cardiac mapping system for mapping and ablation of cardiac arrhythmias in a real-world environment and evaluate procedural outcomes.
Methods: A total of 1065 patients were enrolled at 38 centers in the USA and Canada between 2017 and 2018 and were followed for 12 months post procedure for arrhythmia recurrence, medication use, and quality-of-life changes.

Inflammation has profound but poorly understood effects on metabolism, especially in the context of obesity and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Here, we report that hepatic interferon regulatory factor 3 (IRF3) is a direct transcriptional regulator of glucose homeostasis through induction of , a component of serine/threonine phosphatase PP2A, and subsequent suppression of glucose production. Global ablation of IRF3 in mice on a high-fat diet protected against both steatosis and dysglycemia, whereas hepatocyte-specific loss of IRF3 affects only dysglycemia.

Background: Early recurrence of atrial tachyarrhythmia (ERAT) is common after pulmonary vein isolation (PVI) and has been associated with an increased risk of late atrial fibrillation (AF) recurrence.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence and outcomes of patients experiencing ERAT after PVI using advanced-generation ablation technologies.
Methods: This is a prespecified substudy of the CIRCA-DOSE (Cryoballoon vs Irrigated Radiofrequency Catheter Ablation: Double-Short vs Standard Exposure Duration) trial, a prospective, randomized, multicenter study comparing PVI with contact force-guided radiofrequency ablation to secondary-generation cryoballoon ablation for paroxysmal AF.

New Findings: What is the role of SCN5A-C683R? SCN5A-C683R is a novel variant associated with an uncommon phenotype of adrenaline-triggered ventricular arrhythmia in the absence of a distinct ECG phenotype. What is the main finding and its importance? Functional studies demonstrated that Na 1.5/C683R results in a mixed electrophysiological phenotype with gain-of-function (GOF) and loss-of-function (LOF) properties compared with Na 1.

Apical hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (aHCM) is thought to have a more benign clinical course compared to septal HCM (sHCM), but most data have been derived from Asian cohorts. Comparative data on clinical outcome in Caucasian aHCM cohorts are scarce, and the results are conflicting. The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and outcome of aHCM in French-Canadians of Caucasian descent.

There is currently an ongoing worldwide pandemic of a novel virus belonging to the family of Coronaviruses (CoVs) which are large, enveloped, plus-stranded RNA viruses. Coronaviruses belong to the order of Nidovirales, family of Coronavirinae and are divided into four genera: alphacoronavirus, betacoronavirus, gammacoronavirus and deltacoronavirus. CoVs cause diseases in a wide variety of birds and mammals and have been found in humans since 1960.

Different clones, protocol conditions, instruments, and scoring/readout methods may pose challenges in introducing different PD-L1 assays for immunotherapy. The diagnostic accuracy of using different PD-L1 assays interchangeably for various purposes is unknown. The primary objective of this meta-analysis was to address PD-L1 assay interchangeability based on assay diagnostic accuracy for established clinical uses/purposes.
