In order to investigate the seepage law and crack development characteristics of dump slopes, as well as the impact on slope stability during drying and wetting cycles, a simulation test slope system was constructed in a rainfall environment, specifically designed to mimic the engineering conditions of dump slope. The apparent resistivity response formula for the seepage and crack development processes was derived based on the three-phase medium theory of rock-soil bodies and Maxwell's conductivity formula. The geoelectric field characteristics pertaining to slope damage and the corresponding patterns of alteration were comprehensively investigated.

Effects of long-term afforestation on soil water and carbon in the Alxa Plateau.

Front Plant Sci

January 2024

Key Laboratory of Eco-Hydrology of Inland River Basin, Northwest Institute of Eco-Environment and Resources, Chinese Academy of Sciences, Lanzhou, China.

Plantations in dry and semi-arid areas significantly affect the soil's ability to store carbon and maintain a stable water balance. It is yet unclear, though, how planted trees in these regions might impact the soil's carbon and water levels. As a forest ages, it is unknown how soil water and soil carbon interact with one another.

Microwave thermotherapy (MWT) has shown great potential in cancer treatment due to its deep tissue penetration and minimally invasive nature. However, the poor microwave absorption (MA) properties of the microwave thermal sensitizer in the medical frequency band significantly limit the thermal effect of MWT and then weaken the therapeutic efficacy. In this paper, a Ni-based multilayer heterointerface nanomissile of MOFs-Ni-Ru@COFs (MNRC) with improved MA performance in the desired frequency band via introducing magnetic loss and dielectric loss is developed for MWT-based treatment.

The objective of this study is to formulate vegetated light porous concrete (VLPC) through the utilization of various cementing materials, the design of porosity, and the incorporation of mineral additives. Subsequently, the study aims to assess and analyze key properties, including the bulk density, permeability coefficient, mechanical characteristics, and alkalinity. The findings indicate a linear decrease in the volume weight of VLPC as the designed porosity increases.

With the rapid development of AI and big data mining technologies, computerized medical decision-making has become increasingly prominent. The aim of high-utility pattern mining (HUPM) is to discover meaningful patterns in medical databases that contribute to maximizing the utility from the perspective of diagnosis. However, HUPM pays less attention to the interpretability and explainability of these patterns in medical decision-making scenarios.

Background: Given the high incidence of esophageal cancer in China, an increasing number of patients there are undergoing endoscopic mucosal dissection (ESD). Although the 5-year survival rate after ESD can exceed 95%, esophageal stricture, the most common and serious postoperative complication, affects the long-term prognosis of patients and the quality of life. Autologous mucosal grafts have proven to be successful in preventing stricture after ESD for early esophageal cancer.

Biochar is widely recognized as a soil amendment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance soil carbon storage in agroecosystems; however, the systematic focus on carbon balance and ecological benefits in cropping systems remains unclear in saline-alkali areas under water-saving irrigation. Here, a 2-yr field experiment with carbon footprint method was conducted to determine soil carbon budgets, biochar carbon efficiency performance, and the economic and ecological benefits of mulched drip-irrigated sorghum production, in an arid salinized region of Inner Mongolia, China. Corn straw-derived biochar dosages of 0 (CK), 15 (B15), 30 (B30), and 45 (B45) t hm were just applied into the soil in the first crop growing season.

In order to further elucidate the thermodynamic mechanism of CH/CO adsorption by coal molecules, the adsorption behavior of a molecular model of coal (CHON) at Wucaiwan, Zhundong was investigated by applying Materials Studio 2020 and Monte Carlo (GCMC) simulation methods, and the adsorption behavior of CH and CO was studied from the thermodynamic point of view under the conditions of different temperatures, pressures, and moisture contents. The results showed that at different temperatures or moisture contents, CH molecules had a low-density scattering distribution and CO molecules had a high-density polymerization distribution. Temperature and moisture content and adsorption constants a and b were negatively correlated.
