TRINet: Team Role Interaction Network for automatic radiology report generation.

Comput Biol Med

December 2024

College of Electronic Information Engineering, Inner Mongolia University, Hohhot, 010021, China. Electronic address:

In recent years, the automatic generation of radiology reports as an auxiliary solution for expert diagnosis has garnered considerable attention from researchers. However, due to the complexity of medical image interpretation, current models exhibit issues such as aleatoric uncertainty and epistemic uncertainty, leading to a lack of stability in the content description of the generated medical reports. To address these issues, we propose a Team Role Interaction Network (TRINet) for the automatic generation of radiology reports, which is composed of multiple Team-member role models and a Team-leader role model.

Effect of combined probiotics and doxycycline therapy on the gut-skin axis in rosacea.

mSystems

November 2024

Key Laboratory of Dairy Biotechnology and Engineering, Ministry of Education, Inner Mongolia Agricultural University, Hohhot, China.

Article Synopsis
  • Rosacea is a common skin condition characterized by redness, visible blood vessels, and acne-like symptoms, often treated with antibiotics, but extended use can lead to resistance and side effects.
  • This study explored the effects of probiotics combined with doxycycline treatment on rosacea, finding that probiotics improved skin conditions, decreased inflammation, and altered gut microbiota composition among participants.
  • Results indicated that the probiotic group experienced better skin health outcomes with reduced sebum and inflammation, as well as fewer antibiotic resistance genes compared to controls, supporting a connection between gut health and skin condition.

Article Synopsis
  • This study investigates whether vitamin D supplementation can reduce depressive symptoms in older adults, considering factors like dosage, gender, and existing depression.
  • A systematic review of 11 studies with over 21,500 participants showed no significant benefit of vitamin D for alleviating depression.
  • The evidence is currently insufficient to confirm vitamin D's effectiveness, highlighting the need for more randomized controlled trials.

Severe traumatic brain injury (TBI) is a leading cause of death and disability. Monitoring intracranial pressure (ICP) is recommended, but the data on the outcomes are conflicting. Adding continuous brain tissue oxygen partial pressure (PbtO2) monitoring may have some benefit but the OXY-TC suggested it did not improve 6-month neurological outcomes.

October 2024

State Key Laboratory of Cardiovascular Disease, Department of Cardiology, Fuwai Hospital, National Center for Cardiovascular Disease, Chinese Academy of Medical Science and Peking Union Medical College, No. 167 Beilishi Road, Beijing, 100037, China.

Background: The urinary albumin to creatinine ratio (UACR) is associated with adverse cardiovascular outcomes, even when within the normal range. However, the potential modification of this effect by metabolic abnormalities remains unclear. This study explored whether metabolic abnormalities modify the association between normal-range UACR and cardiovascular mortality.

Article Synopsis
  • The study investigates how different wavelengths of lasers (980 nm and 810 nm) affect the healing of hard tissue in rat alveolar sockets after dental extractions.
  • Thirty-six male Wistar rats underwent molar extractions, with one side treated with laser therapy while the other side was a control, and various analyses were conducted on specific days post-treatment.
  • Results showed that both laser treatments enhanced hard tissue regeneration and osteogenic gene expression, with the 980 nm laser demonstrating superior effects in certain gene expressions compared to the 810 nm laser, although no significant differences in overall bone density or volume were observed.

Targeting ferroptosis promotes diabetic wound healing via Nrf2 activation.

Heliyon

October 2024

NHC Key Laboratory of Hormones and Development, Chu Hsien-I Memorial Hospital and Tianjin Institute of Endocrinology, Tianjin Medical University, Tianjin, 300134, China.

Article Synopsis
  • * Ferroptosis, a form of cell death tied to iron buildup and lipid damage, is linked to poor healing in diabetic wounds, as seen in studies on diabetic rat models and cultured macrophages.
  • * Treatment with ferrostatin-1 (Fer-1) has been shown to reduce ferroptosis and inflammation, boost cell growth, and facilitate new blood vessel formation, thereby improving diabetic wound healing, with effects linked to the activation of a protective factor called Nrf2.

Gout is characterized by dysregulation of uric acid (UA) metabolism, and the gut microbiota may serve as a regulatory target. This two-month randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial aimed to investigate the additional benefits of coadministering Probio-X alongside febuxostat. A total of 160 patients with gout were randomly assigned to either the probiotic group (n = 120; Probio-X [3 × 10 CFU/day] with febuxostat) or the placebo group (n = 40; placebo material with febuxostat).

September 2024

State Key Laboratory of Reproductive Regulation and Breeding of Grassland Livestock (R(2)BGL), College of Life Sciences, Inner Mongolia University, Hohhot 010070, China. Electronic address:

Obesity poses risks to oocyte maturation and embryonic development in mice and humans, linked to gut microbiota dysbiosis and altered host metabolomes. However, it is unclear whether symbiotic gut microbes have a pivotal role in oocyte quality. In mouse models of fecal microbiota transplantation, we demonstrated aberrant meiotic apparatus and impaired maternal mRNA in oocytes, which is coincident with the poor developmental competence of embryos.
