Article Synopsis
  • Fatty acids in breast milk, particularly long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFAs) like DHA, EPA, and ALA, vary based on the dietary intake of lactating women.* -
  • A study analyzed 600 breast milk samples from 75 mothers to examine how n-3 PUFA supplementation affected fatty acid composition over time, with samples collected at different intervals.* -
  • Results showed that dietary n-3 PUFA supplementation significantly increased the levels of EPA and DHA in breast milk after two hours, enhancing levels of key fatty acids compared to the mothers' blood.*

Article Synopsis
  • Patients with systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) are at higher risk for cardiovascular and cerebrovascular events (CCEs), which significantly contribute to mortality rates in this population.
  • This study aimed to create a predictive model to identify which SLE patients are at a higher risk for CCEs using data from 2399 patients over a 3-year follow-up.
  • The resulting model includes nine key risk factors and has shown strong predictive power, indicating it could be useful in routine clinical assessments of SLE patients to better manage their risk of CCEs.

Background: Empathy, as one of the fundamental principles of nursing professionalism, plays a pivotal role in the formation and advancement of the nursing team. Nursing interns, as a reserve force within the nursing team, are of significant importance in terms of their ability to empathize. This quality is not only directly related to the degree of harmony in the nurse-patient relationship and the enhancement of patient satisfaction, but also plays a pivotal role in the promotion of the quality of nursing services to a new level.

Background: Circular RNAs (circRNAs) are involved in the progression of osteoporosis; however, their impact on osteogenic differentiation has yet to be fully elucidated. In this study, we identified a novel circRNA known as circZfp644-205 and investigated its effect on osteogenic differentiation and apoptosis in osteoporosis.

Methods: CircZfp644-205, miR-445-3p, and SMAD2 levels were measured using quantitative real-time polymerase chain reaction (qRT-PCR).

Ethnopharmacological Relevance: Sorbaria sorbifolia (SS) is a traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) that has been employed anti-hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) for over 2000 years; yet, its underlying mechanism is still not fully understood.

Aim Of The Study: In this study, we evaluated the anti-HCC effect on the freeze-dried powder of the water extract of SS (FDSS) by inhibiting tumor-induced neovascularization, and promoting apoptosis, and elucidated the underlying mechanisms.

Materials And Methods: HCC cell lines (HepG2 and Huh7 cells) and HepG2 xenograft tumors in zebrafish were employed as in vivo and in vitro models, respectively, to evaluate the anti- HCC-indued neovascularization and apoptosis.

Heart Surg Forum

December 2023

Center for Disease Control and Prevention, Affiliated Hospital of Inner Mongolia Medical College, 010050 Hohhot, Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region, China.

Aims: This study aims to explore the risk factors of postoperative infection in newborns with congenital heart disease.

Methods: From January 2019 to January 2023, 78 neonates with congenital heart disease who were diagnosed and treated in our hospital with postoperative infection as well as an age- and sex-matched non-infected group (n = 78) were enrolled. After collecting the data and clinical information of 156 children, we compared the differences in the days of catheter indwelling, days of mechanical ventilation, times of blood transfusion, days of intensive care unit (ICU) stay, and survival status between postoperative infection and non-infection groups.

Introduction: Liver X Receptor (LXR) agonists could attenuate the development of atherosclerosis but bring excess lipid accumulation in the liver. Danlou Recipe was believed to be a benefit for improving the lipid profile. Thus, it is unclear whether Danlou Recipe could attenuate hyperlipidemia without excess lipid accumulated in the liver of mice.

Neuropathic pain (NP) is pain caused by injury or dysfunction of the somatosensory system. The role of Rac2, a member of the Rac family, which is expressed in neutrophils, macrophages, and adult T cells, in NP remains unclear. Using a chronic constriction injury (CCI)-induced NP model in rats, we found that Rac2 expression was elevated in rats with CCI-induced NP and that overexpression of Rac2 aggravated the NP.

State Key Laboratory of Component-based Chinese Medicine, Tianjin University of Traditional Chinese Medicine, Tianjin, China; Research and Development Center of TCM, Tianjin International Joint Academy of Biomedicine, Tianjin, China. Electronic address:

Atrial fibrillation significantly increases the risk of thromboembolism and stroke. Wenxin Keli (WXKL) is a widely used Chinese patent medicine against arrhythmia but if it has antithrombotic activity is unknown. Since platelet activation is a critical factor in thrombosis and the key target for many antithrombotic drugs, this study aims to demonstrate the antithrombotic efficacy of WXKL.

Background: Previous cluster-randomized controlled trials evaluating the impact of implementing evidence-based guidelines for nutrition therapy in critical illness do not consistently demonstrate patient benefits. A large-scale, sufficiently powered study is therefore warranted to ascertain the effects of guideline implementation on patient-centered outcomes.

Methods: We conducted a multicenter, cluster-randomized, parallel-controlled trial in intensive care units (ICUs) across China.
