Walking the Talk: "Reflexivity" to Advance Integration of Patient Reported Outcomes for Cancer Care Screening.

In this commentary, we propose the use of video-reflexive ethnography (VRE) as a means to support integration of patient-reported outcomes (PROs) in cancer care screening. As for any policy or intervention, the optimization of PROs depends on moving beyond their mere formal introduction, and depends on the integration of PROs in the everyday practice contexts of health care professionals (HPEs). The use of VRE allows for video-playback sessions among oncology professionals to support team-based learning and practice-change grounded in "reflexivity.

Effects of implementation strategies on nursing practice and patient outcomes: a comprehensive systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Implementation strategies targeting individual healthcare professionals and teams, such as audit and feedback, educational meetings, opinion leaders, and reminders, have demonstrated potential in promoting evidence-based nursing practice. This systematic review examined the effects of the 19 Cochrane Effective Practice and Organization Care (EPOC) healthcare professional-level implementation strategies on nursing practice and patient outcomes.

Methods: A systematic review was conducted following the Cochrane Handbook, with six databases searched up to February 2023 for randomized studies and non-randomized controlled studies evaluating the effects of EPOC implementation strategies on nursing practice.

From Treatment to Recovery: Gynecological Survivors' and Caregivers' Perspectives About the Usability of an Educational Resource.

The objective of this study was to understand gynecological cancer (GC) survivors' and their informal caregivers' perceptions about the usability of an educational resource to support their transition from primary cancer treatment into surveillance and/or recovery. After developing an empirical- and experiential-informed educational resource, we used a semi-structured questioning process to understand GC survivors and their caregivers' perceptions about its usability. Data were collected via online focus groups or 1:1 interviews that were audio recorded and transcribed.

Ophthalmological screening guidelines for individuals with Osteogenesis Imperfecta: a scoping review.

Background: Osteogenesis imperfecta (OI) is a connective tissue disorder in which the Type 1 collagen is defective. The eye is a structure rich in collagen Type 1 and is heavily impacted by the disease. Many vision-threatening eye diseases have been associated with OI.

Development and Content Validation of the Communication, Organization, and Intrafamilial Beliefs in Neonatology Scale for Family Resilience in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.

Family resilience in the neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) is a promising avenue for promoting parental mental health, yet no tool is available to assess it. This study aimed to develop a new scale to measure family resilience in French-speaking parents during the NICU hospitalization and evaluate content validation. This methodological study was conducted in Quebec and included two phases: (a) item development process and (b) content validity evaluation process using successive quantitative and qualitative methods.

Newly Qualified Canadian Nurses' Experiences With Digital Health in the Workplace: Comparative Qualitative Analysis.

Background: Clinical practice settings have increasingly become dependent on the use of digital or eHealth technologies such as electronic health records. It is vitally important to support nurses in adapting to digitalized health care systems; however, little is known about nursing graduates' experiences as they transition to the workplace.

Objective: This study aims to (1) describe newly qualified nurses' experiences with digital health in the workplace, and (2) identify strategies that could help support new graduates' transition and practice with digital health.

In primary care it has led to increases in the implementation of nurse practitioners and heightened interest in their patient panel capacity. Resources to Support Canadian Nurses to Deliver Virtual Care: Environmental Scan.

Background: Regulatory and professional nursing associations have an important role in ensuring that nurses provide safe, competent, and ethical care and are capable of adapting to emerging phenomena that influence society and population health needs. Telehealth and more recently virtual care are 2 digital health modalities that have gained momentum during the COVID-19 pandemic. Telehealth refers to telecommunications and digital communication technologies used to deliver health care, support health care provider and patient education, and facilitate self-care.

Neighbourhood Environments and Lifestyle Behaviours in Adolescents With Type 1 Diabetes.

Objectives: Early prevention strategies are needed to mitigate the high risk of cardiovascular disease in adolescents with type 1 diabetes (T1D). Residential neighbourhood features can promote healthy lifestyle behaviours and reduce cardiovascular risk, but less is known about their role in lifestyle behaviours in adolescents with T1D, and no studies used comparisons to healthy controls.

Methods: We examined associations between residential neighbourhood features and lifestyle behaviours in adolescents with T1D and healthy controls.

Community health services in European literature: A systematic review of their features, outcomes, and nursing contribution to care.

Background: To meet the population's needs, community care should be customized and continuous, adequately equipped, and monitored.

Introduction: Considering their fragmented and heterogeneous nature, a summary of community healthcare services described in European literature is needed. The aim of this study was to summarize their organizational models, outcomes, nursing contribution to care, and nursing-related determinants of outcomes.

HIV incidence among women engaging in sex work in sub-Saharan Africa: a systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: Women who engage in sex work in sub-Saharan Africa have a high risk of acquiring HIV infection. HIV incidence has declined among all women in sub-Saharan Africa, but trends among women who engage in sex work are poorly characterised. We synthesised data on HIV incidence among women who engage in sex work in sub-Saharan Africa and compared these with the total female population to understand relative incidence and trends over time.

Digital Health Education and Training for Undergraduate and Graduate Nursing Students: Scoping Review.

Background: As technology will continue to play a pivotal role in modern-day health care and given the potential impact on the nursing profession, it is vitally important to examine the types and features of digital health education in nursing so that graduates are better equipped with the necessary knowledge and skills needed to provide safe and quality nursing care and to keep abreast of the rapidly evolving technological revolution.

Objective: In this scoping review, we aimed to examine and report on available evidence about digital health education and training interventions for nursing students at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Methods: This scoping review was conducted using the Joanna Briggs Institute methodological framework and the PRISMA-ScR (Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses extension for Scoping Reviews).

Cancer information-seeking profiles: A self-report measure of patients' distinct preferences for information about their cancer.

Objective: Contemporary cancer care approaches, such as value- and strengths-based health care, involve integrating patients' needs and preferences, as the cancer experience unfolds. Distinct cancer information-seeking behaviours among patients are increasingly found to influence patient-provider communication, treatment-related decision-making, health processes and outcomes, as well as patient satisfaction with cancer care services. My program of research has already documented diverse cancer information-seeking profiles (CISP) among patients.

Pilot Randomized Controlled Trial of : A Theory-Guided Exercise Intervention for Young Adults with Lymphoma.

Despite the rapidly emerging evidence on the contributions of physical activity to improving cancer-related health outcomes, adherence to physical activity among young adults with lymphoma remains suboptimal. Using an intersectionality lens to explore barriers and enablers to hepatitis C point-of-care testing: a qualitative study among people who inject drugs and service providers.

Background: Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a significant global health burden, particularly among people who inject drugs. Rapid point-of-care HCV testing has emerged as a promising approach to improve HCV detection and linkage to care in harm reduction organizations such as needle and syringe programs. The objective of this study was to use an intersectionality lens to explore the barriers and enablers to point-of-care HCV testing in a needle and syringe program.

Neuropalliative care developed to address the needs of patients living with life-limiting neurologic disease. One critical consideration is that disease-related changes to cognition, communication, and function challenge illness experiences and care practices. We conducted an ethnography to understand neuropalliative care as a phenomenon; how it was experienced, provided, conceptualized.

Measuring Team Functioning During the COVID-19 Pandemic: Perspectives of Cancer Care Team Members.

Background: In a public health crisis such as COVID-19, cancer teams face significant challenges including acute work disruptions, rapid shifts in clinical practice, and burnout. Within this context, it is crucial to explore team functioning from the perspectives of multiple stakeholders.

Objective: This quantitative pilot study aimed to 1) measure perceptions of multi-stakeholders on key indicators of team functioning (Team Effectiveness, TE, and Team Relational Coordination, TRC) during COVID-19 and its transition, and 2) document whether patient perceptions of TE/TRC are significantly associated with their cancer care experiences.

Purpose: To investigate the association between the neighborhood built environment and trajectories of body mass index (BMI) in youth.

Methods: Data were collected in a prospective study of 1293 adolescents in Montreal. Built environment variables were obtained from public databases for road networks, land use, and the Canadian Census.

The global social upheaval caused by the COVID-19 pandemic coincided with the peak of the last wave of the baby boom generation moving into their sixties, quickly wreaking havoc among workforces and economies around the world. Canada's health system was no exception, and as demands for care far exceeded the capacity to deliver it, chaos, a frenetic pace and fear permeated every corner of healthcare within weeks.

Implementing Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership Values to Promote Equitable, Diverse and Inclusive Workplaces: A Guide for Healthcare Leaders.

Inequities in healthcare persist despite equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) being embedded in the nursing code of ethics (CNA 2017). Strengths-Based Nursing and Healthcare Leadership (SBNH-L) is "a unique, value-driven, embodied approach that guides leaders and managers to create equitable and safe workplace cultures and environments that honour, develop, mobilize and capitalize on the strengths of individuals and their team" (Gottlieb et al. 2021a: 173) that can be used as a framework to promote EDI in the workplace.
