Introduction: Viscoelastic testing (VET) has been implemented in clinical care to diagnose and manage coagulation in patients with manifest or high risk of major bleeding. However, the breakdown of formed blood clots, that is, fibrinolysis, has been comparatively less studied. There is an increasing recognition that acute infections trigger a dysregulated immunothrombotic response, which has focused attention on viscoelastic testing to identify in particular fibrinolysis resistant states.

This article discusses the role of deep learning (DL) in cancer imaging, focusing on its applications for automatic image segmentation. It highlights two studies that demonstrate how U-Net- and convolutional neural networks-based architectures have improved the speed and accuracy of body composition analysis in CT scans and rectal tumour segmentation in MRI images. While the results are promising, the article stresses the need for further research to address issues like image quality variability across different imaging systems.

Objectives: This study explored the prevalence and degree of misalignment between gastroenterologists and people with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and investigated communication features related to misalignment.
Methods: A mixed-methods approach incorporated qualitative and quantitative analyses of consultations and post-consultation patient and doctor interviews. Gastroenterologists at two Australian teaching hospitals and IBD patients participated in this study.

Leptomeningeal collaterals (LMCs) are crucial in mitigating the impact of acute ischemic stroke (AIS) by providing alternate blood flow routes when primary arteries are obstructed. This article explores the evolutionary pathophysiology of LMCs, highlighting their critical function in stroke and the genetic and molecular mechanisms governing their development and remodelling. We address the translational challenges of applying animal model findings to human clinical scenarios, emphasizing the need for further research to validate emerging therapies-such as pharmacological agents, gene therapy and mechanical interventions-in clinical settings, aimed at enhancing collateral perfusion.

Background/objectives: Surgical deroofing is an essential part of ongoing management of Hidradenitis Suppurativa, including persistent lesions non-responsive to medical therapy. The variables associated with delayed wound healing after surgical deroofing are contradictory within the literature due to the inclusion of heterogeneous surgical intervention methods. We aimed to assess the predictors of time to wound healing after surgical deroofing in HS.

Glucocorticoids are commonly used in the management of patients with hematological and solid malignancies. However, their use may be associated with impaired glycemic metabolism and increased treatment-related morbidity and mortality. This study aimed to examine the feasibility and acceptability of a nurse-led model of care (MOC) for screening and managing glucocorticoid-induced hyperglycemia (GIH) in non-diabetic patients requiring high-dose glucocorticoid (HDG) therapies, as well as patients' and health professionals' experiences with the MOC.

Culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) mothers with young children face multiple inequities in accessing primary health services, such as language barriers, social isolation, low health literacy, and the availability of appropriate interpretation services. These inequities are persistent and indicate that child and family health nurse (CFHN) services, the providers of primary healthcare in many developed countries, require better support to address the needs of these families. This study engaged with CFHNs and healthcare interpreters to co-design a model of support for practice using workshops that included individual and collective brainstorming and visual representations.

Unlabelled: Incontinence-associated dermatitis poses a significant risk for sacral pressure injuries, infection and morbidity in healthcare settings. Despite the availability of best practice guidelines, implementation remains a challenge.
Aim: To outline the implementation of a hospital-wide programme using the Integrated Promoting Action on Research Implementation in Health Services framework to prevent and manage incontinence-associated dermatitis and improve hospital-acquired pressure injuries.

Background: The incidence of Clostridioides difficile infection (CDI) in inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) is rising and associated with adverse outcomes. Optimal treatment for CDI in IBD remains unknown, with various organisations suggesting vancomycin as first-line therapy.
Aim: To compare treatment outcomes for metronidazole versus vancomycin in mild to moderate CDI in IBD.

Background: Nurses play a critical role in supporting patients in self-managing their indwelling urinary catheters and preventing avoidable hospital presentations. This study aimed to explore the effectiveness of a co-designed educational approach developed to enhance nurses' ability to provide optimal care for patients with catheters.
Aim: The primary aim of this study was to enhance nurses' knowledge and skills in urinary catheterisation, care, and management.

Atrial fibrillation (AF) is a severe condition associated with high morbidity and mortality, including an increased risk of stroke and poor outcomes poststroke. Our understanding of the prognosis in AF remains poor. Machine learning (ML) has been applied to the diagnosis, management, and prognosis of AF in the context of stroke but remains suboptimal for clinical use.

Background: Mothers with mild to moderate depression in pregnancy are at risk of developing postpartum depression. Midwife-led continuity of care may support maternal mental health throughout the perinatal period. Research is needed to better understand how continuity of care may support mothers experiencing depression in pregnancy.

In the remote telehealth setting, computed tomography perfusion (CTP) provides important information in assessing the suitability of reperfusion therapy for patients with stroke syndromes. This review will discuss key concepts surrounding the use of CTP, including basic science, clinical applications, pitfalls, recent trials, and technical considerations. CTP can enhance decision‑making for patients who are in the extended window from stroke onset, and this review will address key concepts relevant to its use.

Introduction: Donor leucocyte survival following red blood cell (RBC) transfusion, known as transfusion-associated microchimerism (TAM), can occur in some patients. In Australia, despite the introduction of leucocyte filtration (leucodepletion) during RBC manufacture, TAM has been detected in adult trauma patients. However, the incidence of TAM in Australian pediatric patients has not been analyzed.

Pressure injuries are a significant problem for immobile patients in acute care and can have a profound impact on patients' health and well-being, putting pressure on healthcare systems and strain on the healthcare economy. Nurses play a pivotal role in preventing pressure injuries. A study using multiple methods was conducted to explore pressure injury prevention practices in four inpatient units within a tertiary-level Australian Hospital.

One in three patients admitted to intensive care will sustain a pressure injury (PI) from a medical device. These injuries are painful and when on the face, head or neck they can result in permanent disfigurement. Preliminary evidence of the efficacy of hyper-oxygenated fatty acids (HOFAs) to prevent facial pressure injuries from medical devices is promising; however, the feasibility of incorporating HOFAs into current standard care to prevent PI from a medical device of the face, head and neck has not been extensively explored.
