Inflammatory bowel disease is triggered by abnormalities in epithelial barrier function and immunological responses, although its pathogenesis is poorly understood. The dextran sodium sulphate (DSS)-induced colitis model has been used to examine inflammation in the colon. Damage to mucosa primality occurs in the large intestine and scarcely in the small intestine.

Acute liver failure (ALF) is characterized by rapid hepatic dysfunction, primarily caused by drug-induced hepatotoxicity. Due to the lack of satisfactory treatment options, ALF remains a fatal clinical disease, representing a grand challenge in global health. For the drug repositioning to ALF of mesalamine, which is clinically approved for the treatment of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), we propose a supramolecular prodrug nanoassembly (SPNs).

Leaky gut syndrome (LGS) is caused by intestinal epithelial injury and increased intestinal permeability due to a variety of factors, including chronic stress, inflammatory bowel disease, diabetes, surgery, and chemotherapy, resulting in an increased influx of matter from the intestinal lumen causing constipation and bacteremia. To our knowledge, this is the first known case of LGS along with () bacteremia in a neurodegenerative disease patient. The patient was an 81-year-old male with a history of Alzheimer's disease, cerebral infarction, and diverticulitis in a psychiatric hospital, fed via a nasogastric tube.

Hidradenitis suppurativa is an inflammatory skin disease for which adalimumab is an effective treatment in just over half of cases. Few factors associated with therapeutic response, and therefore potentially predictive of response, are known to date. This real-life study retrospectively explores the existence of such factors in a Belgian cohort of 82 patients, using several response scores: the Hidradenitis Suppurativa Clinical Response (HiSCR), the International Hidradenitis Suppurativa Severity Scoring System-55 (iHS4-55), and the dynamic metascore (a combination of the Hurley score, the 2007 version of the Sartorius score, the iHS4 and the HiSCR).

The aim was to explore factors associated with intestinal tissue levels of anti-TNF alpha (anti-TNF), anti-TNF antibodies, and cytokines in pediatric patients with Crohn Disease (CD). In a prospective exploratory study of CD patients undergoing ileocecal resection or colonoscopy between 6/2020 and 1/2023, we analysed tissue levels of anti-TNF, anti-TNF antibodies, and cytokines (TNF-α, IL-17, IL-1β, IFN-γ) from intestinal biopsies. Mixed-effects regression models, adjusted for potential confounders, were used.

Colonic tuberculosis (TB) is a rare form of extrapulmonary TB with nonspecific clinical presentations such as weight loss, abdominal pain and fever. It is often misdiagnosed, as the presentations mimic other more common diseases such as colon cancer and inflammatory bowel diseases, especially in those countries with low TB incidence. Although a combination of CT imaging, colonoscopy and histopathology forms the essential part of the diagnostic assessment, the high variability and low specificity of each investigation may delay or overlook the diagnosis.
