Study Question: What is the functional significance of Tex13b in male germ cell development and differentiation?

Summary Answer: Tex13b regulates male germ cell differentiation by metabolic reprogramming during spermatogenesis.

What Is Known Already: Studies in mice and humans suggest that TEX13B is a transcription factor and is exclusively expressed in germ cells.

Study Design, Size, Duration: We sequenced the coding regions of TEX13B in 628 infertile men and 427 ethnically matched fertile control men.

Pregnancy in the rudimentary horn of a unicornuate uterus is uncommon and needs to be diagnosed at early stages to avoid uterine rupture to avert the high morbidity and mortality. In this case report, we discussed the advantage of three-dimensional transvaginal ultrasonography (3D TV-USG) in assessing the early pregnancy in the noncommunicating rudimentary horn of uterus. A 23-year-old woman approached us for routine pregnancy scan.

NR5A1 or steroidogenic factor 1 (SF1) is an autosomal gene, which encodes a protein that is a member of nuclear receptor family. NR5A1 regulates the transcription of numerous genes that are expressed in hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis and adrenal cortex which in turn, coordinate the gonadal development, steroidogenesis and sex differentiation. Several mutations in NR5A1 have been reported to cause gonadal dysgenesis with adrenal insufficiency in individuals with 46,XY karyotype.

The steroid hormones estradiol and progesterone play an important role in the pathophysiology of fibroids that occurs in 20-25 % of women in the reproductive age. Our study examines the risk imposed by estrogen and progesterone plasma levels in correlation with the ERβ (-13950T/C) and PGR (+331G/A) receptor gene polymorphisms. The study population included 296 individuals (146 UL cases and 150 female controls).
