In Nepal, over 1 million individuals have tested positive for SARS-CoV-2. We sought to describe the frequency of nonrecovery from this infection at 6 months and associated symptoms. We conducted a retrospective cohort study of 6142 women who had positive and negative PCR tests for this infection 6 months previously at 3 institutions in Kathmandu.

Rationale: Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is a common infectious disease in China. As a complication of post-Hantavirus infection, Guillain-Barre syndrome (GBS) was rarely previously reported. Here, we described a case of acute inflammatory demyelinative polyradiculoneuropathy secondary to Hantavirus infection in spring of 2023.

Fibula transplantation plays an irreplaceable role in restoring the function and morphology of the defected mandible. However, the complex load-bearing environment of the mandible makes it urgent to accurately reconstruct the mandible, ensure the position of the condyle after surgery, and restore the patient's occlusal function and contour. The intervention of digital design and three-dimensional (3D) printed titanium mesh provides a more efficient method and idea to solve this problem.

Nasopharyngeal tuberculosis refers to the tuberculosis in the nasopharynx, which is mainly treated with systemic chemotherapy with anti-tuberculosis drugs. Here, we reported a case of nasopharyngeal tuberculosis treated by cryosurgery combined with local spraying of isoniazid on the basis of systemic chemotherapy with anti-tuberculosis drugs. By reviewing the case data and relevant literature, we understood the clinical manifestations, diagnosis and differential diagnosis of the disease, improved everyone's understanding of the disease, and proposed a new method of cryosurgery combined with local spraying of isoniazid for the treatment of nasopharyngeal tuberculosis for clinical discussion.

Apart from mediating viral entry, the function of the free HIV-1 envelope protein (gp120) has yet to be elucidated. Our group previously showed that EP2 derived from one β-strand in gp120 can form amyloid fibrils that increase HIV-1 infectivity. Importantly, gp120 contains ~30 β-strands.

Aims: To explore tyrosine metabolism-related characteristics in liver hepatocellular carcinoma (LIHC) and to establish a risk signature for the prognostic prediction of LIHC. Novel prognostic signatures contribute to the mining of novel biomarkers, which are essential for the construction of a precision medicine system for LIHC and the improvement of survival.
Background: Tyrosine metabolism plays a critical role in the initiation and development of LIHC.
Acute Encephalitis Syndrome (AES) causes significant morbidity and mortality worldwide. In Nepal, Japanese encephalitis virus (JEV) accounts for ~ 5-20% of AES cases, but ~75% of AES cases are of unknown etiology. We identified a gemykibivirus in CSF collected in 2020 from a male child with AES using metagenomic next-generation sequencing.

Number connection test A (NCT-A) and digit symbol test (DST), the preferential neuropsychological tests to detect minimal hepatic encephalopathy (MHE) in China, haven't been standardized in Chinese population. We aimed to establish the norms based on a multi-center cross-sectional study and to detect MHE in cirrhotic patients. NCT-A and DST were administered to 648 healthy controls and 1665 cirrhotic patients.

Background: Intestinal nontuberculous mycobacteriosis due to nontuberculous mycobacteria infection has clinical manifestations similar to intestinal tuberculosis and inflammatory bowel disease, causing difficulties in clinical diagnosis.
Case Presentation: A 42-year-old male patient was admitted to the Sino-Japanese Friendship Hospital of Jilin University in June 2021 for diarrhea and intermittent hematochezia since April 2021. He was diagnosed with inflammatory intestinal disease by colonoscopy and midtransverse colon biopsy.

The aim was to examine the diagnostic efficacy of hippocampal subregions volume and texture in differentiating amnestic mild cognitive impairment (MCI) from normal aging changes. Ninety MCI subjects and eighty-eight well-matched healthy controls (HCs) were selected. Twelve hippocampal subregions volume and texture features were extracted using Freesurfer and MaZda based on T1 weighted MRI.

Gout is a common autoinflammatory joint diseases characterized by deposition of monosodium urate (MSU) crystals which trigger an innate immune response mediated by inflammatory cytokines. IGF1R is one of the loci associated with both urate levels and gout susceptibility in GWAS to date, and IGF-1-IGF-1R signaling is implicated in urate control. We investigate the role of IGF-1/IGF1R signaling in the context of gouty inflammation.

Indole-3-carbinol(I3C) is a tumor chemopreventive substance that can be extracted from cruciferous vegetables. Indole-3-carbinol (I3C) has been shown to have antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. In this study, we investigated the cerebral protective effects of I3C in an in vivo rats model of middle cerebral artery occlusion (MCAO).

Objective: To investigate the positivity rates and drug resistance characteristics of (MTB) among suspected tuberculosis (TB) patients in Shandong Province, the second-largest population province in China.
Methods: A prospective, multi-center study was conducted from April 2022 to June 2023. Pathogen and drug resistance were identified using nucleotide matrix-assisted laser desorption ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (nucleotide MALDI-TOF MS).

Introduction And Importance: Isolated pancreatic injury following blunt abdominal trauma is rare, and the absence of definite clinical signs and symptoms may delay diagnosis and management.
Case Presentation: We present the case of a seven-year-old girl with a history of progressive, periumbilical abdominal pain and multiple episodes of non-bilious, non-blood mixed vomiting following a road traffic accident. Computed tomography (CT) imaging revealed an isolated grade three pancreatic injury managed conservatively.

Background: Severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), a lethal tick-borne hemorrhagic fever, prompted our investigation into prognostic predictors and potential drug targets using plasma Olink Proteomics.
Methods: Employing the Olink assay, we analyzed 184 plasma proteins in 30 survivors and 8 nonsurvivors of SFTS. Validation was performed in a cohort of 154 patients with SFTS via enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.

Background: Most international treatment guidelines recommend rapid initiation of antiretroviral therapy (ART) for people newly diagnosed with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV)-1 infection, but experiences with rapid ART initiation remain limited in China. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of efavirenz (400 mg) plus lamivudine and tenofovir disoproxil fumarate (EFV + 3TC + TDF) versus coformulated bictegravir, emtricitabine, and tenofovir alafenamide (BIC/FTC/TAF) in rapid ART initiation among men who have sex with men (MSM) who have been diagnosed with HIV.
Methods: This multicenter, open-label, randomized clinical trial enrolled MSM aged ≥18 years to start ART within 14 days of confirmed HIV diagnosis.

Background: Poor glycemic control during tuberculosis (TB) treatment is challenging, as the optimum treatment strategy remains unclear. We assessed hyperglycemia severity using glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) test and predictors of severe hyperglycemia at the time of TB diagnosis in three resources-diverse regions in Tanzania.
Methods: This was a substudy from a large cohort study implemented in three regions of Tanzania.

Background: Our study aimed to analyze the characteristics of ultrasound images corresponding to each histological stage of primary biliary cholangitis (PBC).
Methods: We prospectively analyzed 75 confirmed cases of PBC and used liver biopsy as the gold standard to determine the disease stage.
Results: The typical ultrasound images of patients with PBC were characterized by a thickening of the portal vein wall (PVW) and periportal hypoechoic band (PHB) width with increasing histological stages, and significant increases in the left hepatic lobe diameter (LHLD) in stage II (by 64.
