The present study was aimed at producing enhanced and sustained bioelectricity from distillery wastewater in a double chamber microbial fuel cell (MFC) by changing inter-electrode distance, inoculum and reactor volume. Using double chamber MFC with 1 L working volume, when the distance between the electrodes was kept shorter (1 cm), it generated power density of 1.74 W/m, which was 42.

Nitrogen-use efficiency (NUE) is a function of N-response and yield that is controlled by many genes and phenotypic parameters that are poorly characterized. This study compiled all known yield-related genes in rice and mined them from the N-responsive microarray data to find 1,064 NUE-related genes. Many of them are novel genes hitherto unreported as related to NUE, including 80 transporters, 235 transcription factors (TFs), 44 MicroRNAs (miRNAs), 91 kinases, and 8 phosphatases.

Coronaviruses did not invite attention at a global level and responsiveness until the series of 2003-SARS contagion followed by year-2012 MERS plus, most recently, 2019-nCoV eruptions. SARS-CoV &MERS-CoV are painstaking, extremely pathogenic. Also, very evidently, both have been communicated from bats to palm-civets & dromedary camels and further transferred ultimately to humans.

Microplastics (MPs) are emerging as a severe threat in our environment. Their diverse existence in marine environments is being researched globally and thus a widely known fact; however, their presence in the freshwater counterpart has gained attention lately only. Riverine systems, the most critical freshwater resources serve as an essential link between terrestrial and marine environments and their contamination with MPs is going to create severe environmental issues.

Transcription elongation is one of the key steps at which RNA polymerase II-directed expression of protein-coding genes is regulated in eukaryotic cells. Different proteins have been shown to control this process, including the ELL/EAF family. ELL Associated Factors (EAFs) were first discovered in a yeast two-hybrid screen as interaction partners of the human ELL (Eleven nineteen Lysine-rich Leukemia) transcription elongation factor.

In this study, synthesis of 15 novel bis indole-based Schiff bases (SBs) 4a-4o was conducted by condensation of 2-(1-aminobenzyl)benzimidazole with symmetrical bis-isatins linked via five alkyl chains (n = 2-6). These were subjected to ADME (absorption, distribution, metabolism and excretion), physiochemical properties, molecular docking, in vitro antibacterial and antioxidant studies. The in silico studies indicated lower toxicity with metabolic stability for nearly all the derivatives proving reliability as drug candidates.

Background: Chemo- and radiation therapy-based clinical management of different types of cancers is associated with toxicity and several side effects. Therefore, there is always an unmet need to explore agents that reduce such risk factors. Among these, natural products have attracted much attention because of their potent antioxidant and antitumor effects.

Water is a prime necessity for the survival and sustenance of all living beings. Over the past few years, the water quality of rivers is adversely affected due to harmful wastes and pollutants. This ever-increasing water pollution is a big matter of concern as it deteriorating the water quality, making it unfit for any type of use.

The present study reports pollution evaluation indices employed to assess the intensity of metal pollution in water systems affected by acid mine drainage from rat-hole coal mines prevalent in North-east India. The concentration of seven eco-toxic metals was evaluated from coal mine waters which showed concentration order of Iron (Fe) > Manganese (Mn) > Zinc (Zn) > Chromium (Cr) > Lead (Pb) > Copper (Cu) > Cadmium (Cd). The water samples were acidic with mean pH 2.

We report the solvothermal synthesis of MoSbased quantum dots (QDs) and the performance evaluation of bare QDs for the detection of aqueous As (III) oxidative state at room temperature and neutral pH over a vast range (0.1-1000 ppb). Concentration-dependent photoluminescence (PL) of the QDs enhances up to 50 ppb and then suppresses till 1000 ppb.

Introduction: Constrain of a total elbow replacement and elbow arthrodesis are too much for the working population to bear. As such interpositional elbow arthroplasty using fascia lata autologous graft to reconstruct the elbow joint is a viable option in this age group.
Materials And Method: 8 patients were operated for arthritic stiff elbow, and joint reconstruction was done using fascia lata autologous graft, with out the use of any hinged external fixator.

Microsatellites are nonrandom hypervariable iterations of one to six nucleotides, existing across the coding as well as noncoding regions of virtually all known genomes, arising primarily due to polymerase slippage and unequal crossing over during replication events. Two or more perfect microsatellites located in close proximity form compound microsatellites. We studied the distribution of compound microsatellites in 118 ssDNA virus genomes belonging to three economically important virus families, namely Anelloviridae, Circoviridae, and Parvoviridae, known to predominantly infect livestock and humans.

Crop yield is challenged every year worldwide by changing climatic conditions. The forecasted climatic scenario urgently demands stress-tolerant crop varieties to feed the ever-increasing global population. Molecular breeding and genetic engineering approaches have been frequently exploited for developing crops with desired agronomic traits.

There is accumulating evidence showing that hyperglycemia conditions like diabetes possess a greater risk of impairment to the neuronal system because high glucose levels exacerbate oxidative stress, accumulation of amyloid-beta peptides, and mitochondrial dysfunction, and impair cognitive functions and cause neurodegeneration conditions like Alzheimer's diseases. Due to the extensive focus on pharmacological intervention to prevent neuronal cells' impairment induced by hyperglycemia, the underlying molecular mechanism that links between Diabetes and Alzheimer's is still lacking. Given this, the present study aimed to evaluate the protective effect of piperine on streptozotocin (STZ) induced hyperglycemia and candidate gene expression.

This paper examines the time-frequency relationship between the number of confirmed COVID-19 cases, temperature, exchange rates and stock market return in the top-15 most affected countries by the COVID-19 pandemic. We employ Wavelet Coherence and Partial Wavelet Coherence on the daily data from 1st February, 2020 to 13th May, 2020. This study adds to the literature by implementing the Wavelet Coherence technique to explore the unexpected outbreak effects of the global pandemic on temperature, exchange rates and stock market returns.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is multifactorial, progressive neurodegeneration with impaired behavioural and cognitive functions. The multitarget-directed ligand (MTDL) strategies are promising paradigm in drug development, potentially leading to new possible therapy options for complex AD. Herein, a series of novel MTDLs phenylsulfonyl-pyrimidine carboxylate (BS-1 to BS-24) derivatives were designed and synthesized for AD treatment.

Crop improvement for Nitrogen Use Efficiency (NUE) requires a well-defined phenotype and genotype, especially for different N-forms. As N-supply enhances growth, we comprehensively evaluated 25 commonly measured phenotypic parameters for N response using 4 N treatments in six indica rice genotypes. For this, 32 replicate potted plants were grown in the green-house on nutrient-depleted sand.

Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), organochlorine pesticides (OCPs) and phenolic compounds (PCs) are persistent organic compounds. Contamination of these potentially toxic organic pollutants in soils and sediments is most studied environmental compartments. In recent past, studies were carried out on PAHs, OCPs and PCs in various soils and sediments in India.
