This study aimed to evaluate the effects of autologous dendritic cell (DC) immunotherapy on clinical outcomes (glomerular filtration rate/GFR and urine creatinine albumin ratio/UACR) and endothelial dysfunction (ICAM, VCAM, VEGF) in patients with diabetic kidney disease (DKD). Endothelial dysfunction induced by inflammation is one of the key factors in the pathogenesis of DKD. In this one-group pretest-posttest quasi-experimental study, 69 subjects with DKD were administered a single dose of autologous DC immunotherapy ex vivo.

Through its initiative known as the Climate Change Act (2008), the Government of the United Kingdom encourages corporations to enhance their environmental performance with the significant aim of reducing targeted greenhouse gas emissions by the year 2050. Previous research has predominantly assessed this encouragement favourably, suggesting that improved environmental performance bolsters governmental efforts to protect the environment and fosters commendable corporate governance practices among companies. Studies indicate that organisations exhibiting strong corporate social responsibility (CSR), environmental, social, and governance (ESG) criteria, or high levels of environmental performance often engage in lower occurrences of tax avoidance.

Background: The search for effective painkillers has led to intensive research, with a particular focus on the transient receptor potential vanilloid-1 (TRPV1) channel as a possible target.

Methods: One promising candidate is ononin, which is investigated for its binding with TRPV1 through a 200-ns molecular dynamic simulation and analysed via root-meansquare deviation (RMSD), root-mean-square fluctuation (RMSF), hydrogen-bond interactions, radius of gyration (RadGyr), and MM-PBSA energy calculations. The results were further validated experimentally via calcium imaging studies.

Unveiling the electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction mechanism in heteroatom-decorated-MoCS-MXene: the synergistic effect of single-atom Fe and heteroatom.

Mater Horiz

January 2025

Institute of Biomass Engineering, Key Laboratory of Energy Plants Resource and Utilization, Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs, South China Agricultural University, Guangzhou, 510642, China.

Conversion of nitrogen (N) to ammonia (NH) is a significant process that occurs in environment and in the field of chemistry, but the traditional NH synthesis method requires high energy and pollutes the environment. In this work, the charge, orbital and spin order of the single-atom Fe loaded on heteroatom (X) doped-MoCS (X = B, N, O, F, P and Se) and its synergistic effect on electrochemical nitrogen reduction reaction (eNRR) were investigated using well-defined density functional theory (DFT) calculations. Results revealed that the X-element modified the charge loss capability of Fe atoms and thereby introduced a net spin through heteroatom doping, resulting in the magnetic moment modulation of Fe.

Protective effects of against hepatocyte apoptosis and liver fibrosis induced by high palmitic acid diet.

Front Pharmacol

January 2025

Integration Center of Traditional Chinese and Modern Medicine, Hualien Tzu Chi Hospital, Buddhist Tzu Chi Medical Foundation, Hualien, Taiwan.

Background: Fatty Liver Disease (FLD) progresses from steatosis to steatohepatitis and, if left untreated, can lead to irreversible conditions such as cirrhosis and hepatocarcinoma. The etiology of FLD remains unclear, but factors such as overconsumption, poor diet, obesity, and diabetes contribute to its development. Palmitic acid (PA) plays a significant role in FLD progression by inducing apoptosis, inflammation, oxidative stress, and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress in hepatocytes.

Objectives: Both intrinsic and extrinsic factors cause skin aging. Intrinsic aging is characterized by decreased collagen density, particularly collagen types I (COL1A1) and III (COL3A1), and an increase in the COL1/COL3 ratio. Extrinsic aging, primarily due to ultraviolet light exposure, leads to photoaging, which causes collagen fragmentation and reduced production, leading to skin sagging.
