Background: Genetic factors could be attributed to the variability in docetaxel plasma levels and its subsequent therapeutic response. The objectives of this study were to assess the effect of ABCB1 gene polymorphisms [SNPs rs1045642 (C3435T) and rs1128503 (C1236T)] on docetaxel plasma levels and also to analyze the influence of docetaxel plasma levels on tumour response in the ethnically distinct South Indian population.
Methods: 104 locally advanced breast cancer (LABC) patients on docetaxel-based neo-adjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) were included.

The objective was to determine the relationship of histological chorioamnionitis (HCA) with genital tract cultures in preterm birth. Among two hundred women recruited for the study, 100 were taken as cases with gestational age between ≥28 and <37 weeks and 100 women with gestational age >37 weeks were taken as controls. Vaginal swabs were taken for culture sensitivity and vaginal smears were made for performing whiff test and heat dry gram stained smear was examined for growth of microorganisms.

This cross-sectional study was done to find the agreement between non-contact infrared thermometry and mercury-in-glass thermometer. Two hundred and fifty febrile infants were recruited over a period of two months and axillary temperature was measured by both techniques. The mean (SD) temperature recordings of infrared and mercury thermometer were 37.

Background: Recently, severe manifestations associated with coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) called multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children (MIS-C) have been recognized. Analysis of studies for this novel syndrome is needed for a better understanding of effective management among affected children.
Methods: An extensive search strategy was conducted by combining the terms multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children and coronavirus infection or using the term multisystem inflammatory syndrome in children in bibliographic electronic databases (PubMed, EMBASE, and CINAHL) and in preprint servers (BioRxiv.

Hungarian obstetrician Ignac Semmelweis (1818-1865) was one of the earliest clinical investigators of modern medical science. In nineteenth century Europe, puerperal fever (childbed fever) was a major clinical and public health problem with very high maternal mortality. It was thought to be caused by miasma, epidemicity, or the Will of Providence.

Background And Aims: The ultrasound-guided infraclavicular brachial plexus block (USG ICBPB) is a popular technique for forearm surgeries distal to the elbow. Our study details the ultrasound (US) characteristics of this block and the structures encountered by the needle in four approaches to the infraclavicular area - lateral infraclavicular (LICF), costoclavicular medial to lateral (CML) and lateral to medial (CLM) and retroclavicular (R) by anatomical dissection.
Methods: USG ICBPB was performed in 10 cadavers-5 on the right side and 5 on the left side by each of four approaches and with an 18 gauge Tuohy needle kept , and US characteristics were noted.

Background And Aims: Height and weight-based formulae are used for calculation of dose of medications for caudal analgesia but these have not been compared. We compared spinal column height-based Spiegel and weight-based Takasaki and Armitage formulae for achieving maximum height of sensory neuraxial block after caudal epidural analgesia in paediatric patients.
Methods: In this double-blind randomised study, children aged between 1 and 6 years and planned for infra-umbilical surgery were randomly allocated to receive caudal epidural block (targeting Tlevel block) with 0.

Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) has caused a devastating global pandemic and continues to overwhelm the health-care facilities and shatter the economies of countries worldwide. Although it primarily affects the lungs, it shares a strong interplay with the cardiovascular system. The presence of underlying cardiovascular disease and its risk factors (diabetes, hypertension) predispose the patients to increased severity and mortality associated with COVID-19.

Himachal Pradesh in India is a newer endemic state with co-existence of cutaneous and visceral leishmaniasis. The cutaneous leishmaniasis cases are on an increase in the region and reported to be unusually caused by with limited molecular validation. In order to molecularly characterize the causative parasite of the cutaneous disease, parasite specific Internal-Transcribed Spacer 1 (ITS1) PCR RFLP and sequence analysis was performed on skin lesional biopsies from cutaneous leishmaniasis patients.

Head-and-neck cancer (HNC) is in close proximity to several critical structures. Intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) has the potential of generating highly conformal and concave dose distributions around complex target and is ideally suited for HNC treatment. Conventionally, the focus of IMRT for HNC patients has been on prevention of radiation-induced parotid dysfunction.
