Pesticides are often detected in freshwater, but their impact on the aquatic environment is commonly studied based on single compounds, underestimating the potential additive effects of these mixtures. Improving social functioning deficits-a core characteristic of schizophrenia-spectrum disorders-is often listed by patients as a key recovery goal. Evidence suggests that social deficits also extend to people with schizotypy, a group at heightened risk for psychotic and other psychopathological disorders. One challenge of social functioning research in schizotypy is understanding whether social deficits arise from receiving less pleasure from social activities or from participating less in high-pleasure activities.

Objectives: The integration of these preventive guidelines with Electronic Health Records (EHRs) systems, coupled with the generation of personalized preventive care recommendations, holds significant potential for improving healthcare outcomes. Our study investigates the feasibility of using Large Language Models (LLMs) to automate the assessment criteria and risk factors from the guidelines for future analysis against medical records in EHR.
Materials And Methods: We annotated the criteria, risk factors, and preventive medical services described in the adult guidelines published by United States Preventive Services Taskforce and evaluated 3 state-of-the-art LLMs on extracting information in these categories from the guidelines automatically.

Effective analgesic therapy in neonates continues to be fundamental for improving quality of life and decreasing the need for further medical intervention. When pain is not well controlled in the neonatal intensive care setting, we see an increased use of sedation pharmaceuticals, mechanical ventilation, and altered somatosensory development, among other complications. Currently, there is no standardized protocol addressing effective pain management while decreasing the need for further sedation.

Cognitive control involves allocating cognitive effort according to internal needs and task demands and the Anterior Cingulate Cortex (ACC) is hypothesized to play a central role in this process. We investigated the neural basis of cognitive control in the ACC of rats performing an adjusting-amount delay discounting task. Decision-making in this this task can be guided by using either a lever-value tracking strategy, requiring a 'resource-based' form of cognitive effort or a lever-biased strategy requiring a 'resistance-based' form of cognitive effort.

The recent advancements in autonomous driving come with the associated cybersecurity issue of compromising networks of autonomous vehicles (AVs), motivating the use of AI models for detecting anomalies on these networks. In this context, the usage of explainable AI (XAI) for explaining the behavior of these anomaly detection AI models is crucial. This work introduces a comprehensive framework to assess black-box XAI techniques for anomaly detection within AVs, facilitating the examination of both global and local XAI methods to elucidate the decisions made by XAI techniques that explain the behavior of AI models classifying anomalous AV behavior.

Human pluripotent stem cell (hPSC)-derived retinal organoids are three-dimensional cellular aggregates that differentiate and self-organize to closely mimic the spatial and temporal patterning of the developing human retina. Retinal organoid models serve as reliable tools for studying human retinogenesis, yet limitations in the efficiency and reproducibility of current retinal organoid differentiation protocols have reduced the use of these models for more high-throughput applications such as disease modeling and drug screening. To address these shortcomings, the current study aimed to standardize prior differentiation protocols to yield a highly reproducible and efficient method for generating retinal organoids.

Background And Objective: Understanding the preferences of women living with HIV (WLH) for the prevention of mother-to-child HIV transmission (PMTCT) services is important to ensure such services are person-centered.
Methods: From April to December 2022, we surveyed pregnant and postpartum WLH enrolled at five health facilities in western Kenya to understand their preferences for PMTCT services. WLH were stratified based on the timing of HIV diagnosis: known HIV-positive (KHP; before antenatal clinic [ANC] enrollment), newly HIV-positive (NHP; on/after ANC enrollment).

Continued advances in variant effect prediction are necessary to demonstrate the ability of machine learning methods to accurately determine the clinical impact of variants of unknown significance (VUS). As international incidence of diabetes and diabetes-driven comorbidities such as chronic kidney disease (CKD) continue to climb, interventions are needed that address the high-risk skeletal fragility of what is a complex disease state. Romosozumab (Romo) is an FDA-approved sclerostin inhibitor that has been shown to increase bone mineral density and decrease fracture rates in osteoporotic patients with mild to severe CKD, but its effect on diabetes-weakened bone is unknown. We aimed to test Romo's performance in a model of combined diabetes and CKD.
