Background: Cigarette smoking has been associated with incident heart failure (HF). However, the association between cigarette smoking and smoking cessation with HF subtypes has not been well elucidated, particularly among Black people.
Methods And Results: We investigated 4189 (never smoker n=2934, former smoker n=761, current smoker n=464) Black participants (mean age 54 years, 64% women) without a history of HF or coronary heart disease at baseline in the Jackson Heart Study.

In the prebiotic RNA world, the self-replication of RNA without enzymes can be achieved through the utilization of 2-aminoimidazole activated nucleotides as efficient substrates. The mechanism of RNA nonenzymatic polymerization has been extensively investigated biophysically and structurally by using the model of an RNA primer/template complex which is bound by the imidazolium-bridged or triphosphate-bridged diguanosine intermediate. However, beyond the realm of the guanosine substrate, the structural insight into how alternative activated nucleotides bind and interact with the RNA primer/template complex remains unexplored, which is important for understanding the low reactivity of adenosine and uridine substrates in RNA primer extension, as well as its relationship with the structures.

Morphological parameters measured for the second metacarpal from hand radiographs are used clinically for assessing bone health during growth and aging. Understanding how these morphological parameters relate to metacarpal strength and strength at other anatomical sites is critical for providing informed decision-making regarding treatment strategies and effectiveness. The goals of this study were to evaluate the extent to which 11 morphological parameters, nine of which were measured from hand radiographs, relate to experimentally measured whole-bone strength assessed at multiple anatomical sites and to test whether these associations differed between men and women.

Background Social and environmental factors play an important role in the rising health care burden of cardiovascular disease. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention developed the Social Vulnerability Index (SVI) from US census data as a tool for public health officials to identify communities in need of support in the setting of a hazardous event. SVI (ranging from a least vulnerable score of 0 to a most vulnerable score of 1) ranks communities on 15 social factors including unemployment, minoritized groups status, and disability, and groups them under 4 broad themes: socioeconomic status, housing and transportation, minoritized groups, and household composition.

Process measures target median door-to-ECG (D2E) time of 10 minutes. Methods and Results This 3-year descriptive retrospective cohort study, including 676 ED-diagnosed patients with STEMI from 10 geographically diverse facilities across the United States, examines an alternative approach to quantifying performance: proportion of patients meeting the goal of D2E≤10 minutes.
