Relationship Between Health Care Team Segregation and Receipt of Care by a Cardiologist According to Patient Race in a Midwestern State.

Background: Segregation index (SI) has been associated with worsened health. However, the relationship between SI within health care teams (degree of heterogeneity between teams caring for Black compared with White patients) and cardiovascular care is unclear among adequately insured populations. We sought to assess the relationship between health care team SI, patient race, receipt of care by a cardiologist, 1-year survival, and 30-day readmission rates for Black compared with White patients admitted with heart failure, ischemic heart disease, or valvular heart disease.

Factors influencing emergency medicine worker shift satisfaction: A rapid assessment of wellness in the emergency department.

Objectives: In emergency medicine (EM), the interplay of wellbeing and burnout impacts not only patient care, but the health, productivity, and job satisfaction of EM healthcare workers. The study objective was to use a rapid assessment tool to identify factors that impact EM worker satisfaction, or "wellness," while on shift in the emergency department (ED) and the association with role and level of satisfaction.

Methods: This prospective descriptive study utilized a QR-code-based electronic survey instrument that included a 7-point Likert shift satisfaction score.

Failure to tolerate continuous subcutaneous treprostinil in pediatric pulmonary hypertension patients.

Continuous subcutaneous (SubQ) treprostinil is an effective therapy for pediatric patients diagnosed with pulmonary hypertension (PH). To date, the clinical characteristics and factors associated with failure to tolerate this therapy have not been described. The purpose was to describe patient-reported factors contributing to SubQ treprostinil intolerance in pediatric patients with PH.

The Indiana Learning Health System Initiative: Early experience developing a collaborative, regional learning health system.

Introduction: Learning health systems (LHSs) are usually created and maintained by single institutions or healthcare systems. The Indiana Learning Health System Initiative (ILHSI) is a new multi-institutional, collaborative regional LHS initiative led by the Regenstrief Institute (RI) and developed in partnership with five additional organizations: two Indiana-based health systems, two schools at Indiana University, and our state-wide health information exchange. We report our experiences and lessons learned during the initial 2-year phase of developing and implementing the ILHSI.
