Article Synopsis
  • Pressure injuries (PIs) are common in bedbound or immobile patients and require a multidisciplinary approach for effective management and prevention of recurrence.
  • The study analyzed data from nine patients who underwent lumbosacral rotation flap (LSRF) surgery for sacral PIs, excluding those with severe systemic health issues.
  • Results indicated that LSRFs are a viable primary treatment option for sacral PIs, with most flaps healing successfully and the possibility of addressing recurrences with readvancement.

Background Burn injuries pose a significant global public health challenge, causing substantial morbidity and mortality, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Timely and effective wound coverage is critical in treating severe burns to prevent infection, reduce pain, and promote healing. Cadaveric skin grafts (allografts) have become essential in treating extensive burn wounds, serving as temporary biological dressings to prepare the wound bed for autografting.

Arterial stiffness is a non-traditional risk factor of cardiovascular disease and may explain part of the excess cardiovascular risk in chronic kidney disease patients. Successful renal transplantation (RT) may restore renal function and improve several metabolic abnormalities involved in arterial stiffness. This prospective study conducted non-invasive assessments of arterial stiffness indices [the augmentation index (AI) and pulse wave velocity (PWV)] in end-stage kidney disease (ESKD) patients before RT and 3 and 6 months after living-donor RT, alongside the effects of age and calcineurin inhibitors on arterial stiffness.

To the best of our knowledge, this is the largest case series describing the use of a melolabial flap for postlaryngectomy pharyngoplasty. It is an excellent alternative for pharyngoplasty, especially in cases post chemoradiotherapy. It accomplishes the goal while removing the restrictions of local and distant flaps.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate post-operative outcomes by comparing factors such as post-operative pain, duration of hospitalization, time needed to resume normal and full activities, and complications between laparoscopic total extraperitoneal (TEP) and Lichtenstein tension-free mesh hernioplasty or repair (LMR) for inguinal hernias.

Materials And Methods: A prospective study was conducted involving male patients undergoing either LMR or laparoscopic TEP mesh repair, with 30 patients in each group. The study assessed post-operative pain, duration of hospital stay, return to normal activities, and complications.

Purpose: The cost of immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) limits their accessibility to a small number of patients with cancer in low- and middle-income countries. Early-phase clinical trials have shown target inhibition and high activity at doses lower than those registered and evaluated in clinical trials. Here, we report everyday experience of using ICIs in 100 Indian patients, many of whom received lower doses of ICIs.

Management of a severely damaged extremity poses a dilemma-whether to perform a primary amputation or attempt limb salvage. A multitude of factors-such as the extent of neurovascular injury, limb ischaemia time, severity of bone and soft tissue loss, physiological reserve of the patient and availability of surgical expertise and resources-influence this decision. The Mangled Extremity Severity Score (MESS) was developed as a predictor of the need for limb amputation, and a MESS of 7 or more is considered a predictor of primary amputation.

Background: With a quest to optimize outcomes, there have been significant advancements in modern designs of total knee implants, attempting to mimic the natural knee motion and feel. One such new design reproducing the medial and lateral knee pivot is a dual-pivot (DP) knee. In the present study, we endeavored to compare the performance of the DP knee vis-a-vis an ultracongruent (UC) Knee design.

The Gallbladder Reporting and Data System (GB-RADS) ultrasound (US) risk stratification is proposed to improve consistency in US interpretations, reporting, and assessment of risk of malignancy in gallbladder wall thickening in non-acute setting. It was developed based on a systematic review of the literature and the consensus of an international multidisciplinary committee comprising expert radiologists, gastroenterologists, gastrointestinal surgeons, surgical oncologists, medical oncologists, and pathologists using modified Delphi method. For risk stratification, the GB-RADS system recommends six categories (GB-RADS 0-5) of gallbladder wall thickening with gradually increasing risk of malignancy.
