Seeking new and efficient thermoelectric materials requires a detailed comprehension of chemical bonding and structure in solids at microscopic levels, which dictates their intriguing physical and chemical properties. Herein, we investigate the influence of local structural distortion on the thermoelectric properties of TlCuS, a layered metal sulfide featuring edge-shared Cu-S tetrahedra within CuS layers. While powder X-ray diffraction suggests average crystallographic symmetry with no distortion in CuS tetrahedra, the synchrotron X-ray pair distribution function experiment exposes concealed local symmetry breaking, with dynamic off-centering distortions of the CuS tetrahedra.

Developing a two-dimensional (2D) ultrathin metal-organic framework plays a significant role in energy conversion and storage systems. This work introduced a facile strategy for engineering ultrathin NiMn-MOF nanosheets on Ni foam (NF) via in situ conversion from NiMn-layered double hydroxide (LDH). The as-synthesized LDH-derived NiMn-MOF (LDH-D NiMn-MOF) nanosheet exhibited an overpotential of 350 mV to drive a current density of 100 mA cm during oxygen evolution reaction (OER) owing to its better redox activity, hierarchical architecture, and intercalating ability.

Impaired insulin receptor signaling is strongly linked to obesity-related metabolic conditions like non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and Type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, the exact mechanisms behind impaired insulin receptor (INSR) signaling in obesity induced by a high-fat diet remain elusive. We present experiments, supported by mechanically detailed simulations, establishing bulk condensation of a hard-bead fluid by a tiny population of orientable motile grains that self-assembles into a moving polarized monolayer. In a quasi-1D geometry two such layers, oppositely aligned, immobilize the condensed nonmotile component. We account for our observations through a continuum theory with a naturally nonreciprocal Cahn-Hilliard structure, whose predicted trends as a function of packing fraction are consistent with our observations.

We developed a Ru(II)-catalyzed redox-neutral C-H olefination of -methoxybenzamides with vinyl sulfones. The reaction is operationally simple and conducted at ambient temperature and does not require silver additives or external oxidants, making it suitable for late-stage functionalization. Notably, we leveraged the leaving group ability of sulfinate anion to synthesize 3-methyleneisoindolin-1-ones through a tandem C-H olefination/cyclization/elimination sequence at ambient temperature.

Herein, we have developed a Cp*Co(III)-catalyzed cascade C-2 amidation/C-3 chlorination of indoles by leveraging the dual functionality of -chloroamides at ambient temperature. This protocol avoids the aminocarbonylation pathway that may result from the C-H functionalization of isocyanates formed via a potential Hofmann rearrangement of -chloroamides. In fact, this represents the first example of directed C-H amidation using -chloroamides as amidating agent.
