The present paper reports the fabrication of novel types of hybrid fibrous photocatalysts by combining block copolymer (BCP) templating, sol-gel processing, and coaxial electrospinning techniques. Coaxial electrospinning produces core-shell nanofibers (NFs), which are converted into hollow porous TiO NFs using an oxidative calcination step. Hybrid BCP micelles comprising a single plasmonic nanoparticle (NP) in their core and thereof derived silica-coated core-shell particles are utilized as precursors to generate yolk-shell type particulate inclusions in photocatalytically active NFs.

Curcumin, a compound in turmeric, shows promise for its anti-cancer properties. In this study, we successfully synthesised curcumin-reduced and capped gold nanoparticles. Most evaluations have been limited to in-vitro studies for these nanoparticles; our study takes a step further by highlighting the in-vivo assessment of these curcumin-reduced and capped gold nanoparticles (GNPCs) using non-invasive imaging (SPECT and optical) and possible therapeutic potential.

The continuous manufacturing of biologics offers significant advantages in terms of reducing manufacturing costs and increasing capacity, but it is not yet widely implemented by the industry due to major challenges in the automation, scheduling, process monitoring, continued process verification, and real-time control of multiple interconnected processing steps, which must be tightly controlled to produce a safe and efficacious product. The process produces a large amount of data from different sensors, analytical instruments, and offline analyses, requiring organization, storage, and analyses for process monitoring and control without compromising accuracy. We present a case study of a cyber-physical production system (CPPS) for the continuous manufacturing of mAbs that provides an automation infrastructure for data collection and storage in a data historian, along with data management tools that enable real-time analysis of the ongoing process using multivariate algorithms.

The interest in using carbon nitrides (CN) for CO conversion has stimulated extensive research on CN synthesis. Herein, we report the synthesis of two novel CN materials using low-cost commercially available precursors at low temperatures in a short duration of time. Two CN materials, one derived from 5-amino tetrazole (named 4NZ-CN) and the other derived from 3, 5-diamino-1, 2, 4-triazole (named 3NZ-CN) precursors, are prepared by refluxing these precursors for 2 h at 100 °C.

The trisaccharide 1-kestose, a major constituent of commercial fructooligosaccharide (FOS) formulations, shows a superior prebiotic effect compared to higher-chain FOS. The plant sucrose:sucrose 1-fructosyltransferases (1-SST) are extensively used for selective synthesis of lower chain FOS. Fused pyranochromenone derivatives have extensive applications in medicinal chemistry. Herein, we report the first HFIP/TsOH catalyzed, one-pot domino reaction by cleavage of the C(sp)-OMe bond. Control experiments reveal that 1,3,5-trimethoxybenzene is rapidly protonated in the presence of HFIP to yield a dearomatized cationic diene intermediate.

In this last article of the trilogy, the unified biothermokinetic theory of ATP synthesis developed in the previous two papers is applied to a major problem in comparative physiology, biochemistry, and ecology-that of metabolic scaling as a function of body mass across species. A clear distinction is made between intraspecific and interspecific relationships in energy metabolism, clearing up confusion that had existed from the very beginning since Kleiber first proposed his mouse-to-elephant rule almost a century ago. It is shown that the overall mass exponent of basal/standard metabolic rate in the allometric relationship [Formula: see text] is composed of two parts, one emerging from the relative intraspecific constancy of the slope (b), and the other (b) arising from the interspecific variation of the mass coefficient, a(M) with body size.

Hyperspectral quantitative phase microscopy (HS-QPM) involves the acquisition of phase images across narrow spectral bands, which enables wavelength-dependent study of different biological samples. In the present work, a compact Linnik-type HS-QPM system is developed to reduce the instability and complexity associated with conventional HS-QPM techniques. The use of a single objective lens for both reference and sample arms makes the setup compact.

Synthesis of nonameric cationic clusters [Dy(acac)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)]OH·6HO (), [DyTb (acac)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)]OH·2HO (), and [Gd(acac)(μ-OH)(μ-OH)]OH·6HO () (acac = acetylacetonate) is reported. The emission spectrum of shows Dy(III) ion characteristic bands assignable to the F → H ( = 15/2 to 9/2) transitions. Emission due to both Dy(III) and Tb(III) ions is observed for in the visible range, with Tb(III) specific bands appearing due to the D → F ( = 6, 4, and 3) transitions.

Field-free switching (FFS) and spin-orbit torque (SOT)-based neuromorphic characteristics were realized in a W/Pt/Co/NiO/Pt heterostructure with a perpendicular exchange bias () for brain-inspired neuromorphic computing (NC). Experimental results using NiO-based SOT devices guided the development of fully spin-based artificial synapses and sigmoidal neurons for implementation in a three-layer artificial neural network.
