Objective: Early diagnosis of primary and metastatic lung nodules is critical for effective therapeutic planning. Manual delineation of lung nodules is not time-efficient and is prone to human error as well as interobserver and intraobserver variability. This study aimed to address the unmet need for an open-source computer-aided detection (CAD) system for 3D segmentation of lung and metastatic lung nodules along with radiomic feature extraction.

Department of Theoretical Electrical Engineering and Diagnostics of Electrical Equipment, Institute of Electrodynamics, National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Beresteyskiy, 56, Kyiv-57, Kyiv, 03680, Ukraine.

Off-grid water pumping systems (OGWPS) have become an increasingly popular area of research in the search for sustainable energy solutions. This paper presents a finite element method (FEM)-based design and analysis of Brushless-DC (BLDC) and Switched Reluctance Motors (SRM) designed for low-power water pumping applications. Utilizing adaptive finite element analysis (FEA), both motors were designed with identical ratings and design parameters to ensure a fair comparison.

Background: With the expiration of patents for multiple biotherapeutics, biosimilars are gaining traction globally as cost-effective alternatives to the original products. Glycosylation, a critical quality attribute, makes glycosimilarity assessment pivotal for biosimilar development. Given the complexity of glycoanalytical profiles, assessing glycosimilarity is nontrivial.

Effect of formulation composition on trastuzumab stability.

Int J Pharm

Department of Pharmaceutics, College of Pharmacy, University of Minnesota, Minneapolis, MN 55455, United States. Electronic address:

For monoclonal antibody drug products as for other biologics, while the innovator drug products first becomes commercially available, they are often followed by one or more biosimilar products. These biosimilars often differ from the innovator product, as well as from each other, in their formulation composition. However, the impact of the formulation composition on the stability of the active pharmaceutical ingredient subjected to different 'stresses' is still not understood.

Soil salinization adversely impacts plant and soil health. While amendment with chemicals is not sustainable, the application of bioinoculants suffers from competition with indigenous microbes. Hence, microbiome-based rhizosphere engineering, focussing on acclimatization of rhizosphere microbiome under selection pressure to facilitate plant growth, exhibits promise.

Enhancing the ion conduction in solid electrolytes is critically important for the development of high-performance all-solid-state lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). Lithium thiophosphates are among the most promising solid electrolytes, as they exhibit superionic conductivity at room temperature. However, the lack of comprehensive understanding of their ion conduction mechanism, especially the effect of structural disorder on ionic conductivity, is a long-standing problem that limits further innovations in all-solid-state LIBs.

Background/aims: Preformed zirconia crowns have emerged as the preferred choice for restoring damaged primary incisors. However, they differ from natural teeth in their biophysical properties and can potentially alter the overall response of crowned teeth to a traumatic load. This in silico study aimed to compare the response of three different traumatic loading conditions for the (i) natural (M1) and (ii) zirconia-restored tooth models (M2) models.

Purpose: Therapeutic monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) are prone to degradation via aggregation and fragmentation. In this study, forced degradation of trastuzumab (TmAb) was explored in saline and in-vitro models having HO and exposed to UV light (case study 1) both bleomycin (BML) formulation and ferrous ions (Fe) (case study 2) and sodium hypochlorite (NaOCl) (case study 3).

Methods: Size exclusion chromatography, dynamic light scattering, spectroscopic analysis, and fluorescence microscope image processing was carried out for characterizing TmAb degradation.

Spatial transcriptomics (ST) offers enormous potential to decipher the biological and pathological heterogeneity in precious archival cancer tissues. Traditionally, these tissues have rarely been used and only examined at a low throughput, most commonly by histopathological staining. ST adds thousands of times as many molecular features to histopathological images, but critical technical issues and limitations require more assessment of how ST performs on fixed archival tissues.

The oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and oxygen evolution reaction (OER) are considered to be the most important processes in metal-air batteries and regenerative fuel cell devices. Metal-organic polymers are attracting interest as promising precursors of advanced metal/carbon electrocatalysts because of their hierarchical porous structure along with the integrated metal-carbon framework. We developed carbon-coated CNTs with Ni/Fe and Cu/Fe as active sites.

School of Interdisciplinary Research, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi, 110016, India.

Monoclonal antibodies are extensively used as biotherapeutics for treatment of a variety of diseases. Glycosylation of therapeutic antibodies is considered a critical quality attribute as it influences the effector function, circulatory half-life, immunogenicity, and eventually efficacy and patient safety. During upstream process development, media components play a significant role in determining the glycosylation profile.

Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have emerged as solubilizing media of intense interest due partly to their easily tailorable physicochemical properties. Extensive H-bonding between the constituents in a two-constituent system is the major driving force for the formation of the DES. Addition of ethanolamine (MEA), a compound having H-bonding capabilities, to the DESs composed of a terpene [menthol (Men) or thymol (Thy)] and a fatty acid [-decanoic acid (DA)] results in an unprecedented increase in dynamic viscosity due to the extensive rearrangement in the H-bonding network and other interactions within the system, while the liquid mixture still behaves as a Newtonian fluid.

Anions play a crucial role in various environmental, chemical, and biological processes. Among various anions, the production of perchlorate (ClO ) ion is expected to rise in upcoming years, and thus, an efficient method for the detection of perchlorate ion is highly desirable. In this effort, a pyridyl-benzimidazole-based luminescent probe (RSB1) containing two N-H donor sites has been synthesized for selective detection of perchlorate ion.

In this study, we investigate how modulating organic spacers in perovskites influences their X-ray detection performance and reveal the mechanism of low-dose detection with high sensitivity using femtosecond-transient absorption spectroscopy (fs-TAS). Particularly, we employ N,N,N',N'-tetramethyl-1,4-phenylenediammonium (TMPDA) and N,N-dimethylphenylene-p-diammonium (DPDA) as organic spacers to synthesize 2D perovskite single crystals (SCs). We find that DPDA-based SCs exhibit reduced interplanar spacing between inorganic layers, leading to increased lattice packing.

In recent years, the development of biodegradable, cell-adhesive polymeric implants and minimally invasive surgery has significantly advanced healthcare. These materials exhibit multifunctional properties like self-healing, shape-memory, and cell adhesion, which can be achieved through novel chemical approaches. Engineering of such materials and their scalability using a classical polymer network without complex chemical synthesis and modification has been a great challenge, which potentially can be resolved using biobased dynamic covalent chemistry (DCC).

Miniaturized Liver Disease Mimics to Gain Insights into MMP Expression during Disease Progression.

ACS Biomater Sci Eng

January 2025

Centre for Biomedical Engineering, Indian Institute of Technology Delhi, Hauz Khas, New Delhi 110016, India.

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) encompasses a spectrum of liver conditions, ranging from hepatic steatosis to steatohepatitis, fibrosis, and severe outcomes such as cirrhosis or cancer. The progression from hepatic steatosis to fibrosis involves significant extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling, characterized by increased collagen deposition and cross-linking of ECM proteins, causing increased tissue stiffness and altered MMP expression patterns. Dysregulated MMP expression and extracellular acidosis are key contributors to NAFLD progression.
