Cannabis sativa L is an important plant, which is a source of durable fibers, nutritious seeds, and medicinally important phytocannabinoids including Δ-tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) and cannabidiol (CBD). Light has shown to be a key modulator of biomass and cannabinoid yield suggesting responsive photochemical machinery. The present study was envisaged to understand the effect of the increasing levels of metabolic THC on the photochemical efficiency in Cannabis.

The environmental stress, biotic as well as abiotic, is the main cause of decreased growth and crop production. One of the stress-causing agents in plants are parasitic nematodes responsible for crop loss. Jasmonic acid (JA) is recognized as one of signaling molecules in defense-related responses in plants, however, its role under nematode infestation is unclear.

Boiling stable proteins are widespread, evolutionary conserved proteins from several kingdoms including plants, fungi and bacteria. Accumulation evidences in response to dehydration, suggest a wide spread adaptation and an evolutionary role of these protein families to protect cellular structures from water loss effects in a wide range of water potentials. Boiling stable proteins, although represents just 0.

The rapid rise in the emergence of multidrug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) strains of (Mtb) mandates the discovery of novel tuberculosis (TB) drugs. Mur enzymes, which are identified as essential proteins in Mtb and catalyze the cytoplasmic steps in the peptidoglycan biosynthetic pathway, are considered potential drug targets. However, none of the clinical drugs have yet been developed against these enzymes.

The overexpression of α-synuclein (α-syn) and its aggregation is the hallmark of Parkinson's disease. The α-syn aggregation results in the formation of Lewy bodies that causes neuronal cell death. Therefore, the small molecules that can protect neuronal cells from α-syn toxicity or inhibit the aggregation of α-syn could emerge as anti-Parkinson agents.

Chorismate synthase (Cs) is the last enzyme of the main trunk of shikimate pathway and catalyzes formation of chorismate, a major aromatic metabolite precursor. We have previously reported that Cs is highly conserved across different Plasmodium sp. Here we report that Cs from malaria parasites are bifunctional enzymes through expression and functional studies of two recombinant proteins rPfCs (Cs from P.

Santonin, a natural product, was aromatized with molecular iodine as the catalyst. The new compound was characterized as ( S)-methyl-2-(7-hydroxy-5,8-dimethylnaphthalen-2-yl) propanoate (2) based on 2D NMR spectroscopic data. Structurally, compound 2 was highly similar to the anti-inflammatory drug naproxen.

Plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs) are very effective in immobilization of heavy metals and reducing their translocation in plants via precipitation, complex formation and adsorption. The present study was therefore designed to understand the role of Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Burkholderia gladioli in mitigation of Cd stress (0.4 mM) in 10-days old L.

Background: Acute myeloid leukemia is the collective name for different types of leukemias of myeloid origin affecting blood and bone marrow. The overproduction of immature myeloblasts (white blood cells) is the characteristic feature of AML, thus flooding the bone marrow and reducing its capacity to produce normal blood cells. USFDA on August 1, 2017, approved a drug named Enasidenib formerly known as AG-221 which is being marketed under the name Idhifa to treat R/R AML with IDH2 mutation.

Epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) is a critical event that occurs during the invasion and metastatic spread of cancer cells. Here, we conceive a dual mechanism of Par-4-mediated inhibition of EMT and induction of MET in metastatic pancreatic cancer cells. First, we demonstrate that 1,1'-β-D-glucopyranosyl-3,3'-bis(5-bromoindolyl)-octyl methane (NGD16), an N-glycosylated derivative of medicinally important phytochemical 3,3'-diindolylmethane (DIM) abrogates EMT by inducing pro-apoptotic protein Par-4.
