The advancement in the arena of bone tissue engineering persuades us to develop novel nanocomposite scaffolds in order to improve antibacterial, osteogenic, and angiogenic properties that show resemblance to natural bone extracellular matrix. Here, we focused on the development of novel zinc-doped hydroxyapatite (ZnHAP) nanoparticles (1, 2 and 3 wt%; size: 50-60 nm) incorporated chitosan-gelatin nanocomposite scaffold, with an interconnected porous structure. The addition of ZnHAP nanoparticles decreases the pore size (~30 µm) of the chitosan gelatin scaffold.

Various finite element (FE) studies reported the biomechanical effects of fusion surgeries in the lumbar spine. However, a comparative study on Open laminectomy plus Posterolateral Fusion (OL-PLF) and Open Laminectomy plus Transforaminal Lumbar Interbody Fusion (OL-TLIF) for fusing an L4-L5 segment has not been reported in the literature. The present comparative FE study evaluates the biomechanical variations in an L4-L5 segment fused using OL-PLF and OL-TLIF surgical approaches.

Mitochondrial CPT1-mediated fatty acid β-oxidation (FAO) critically contributes to the accelerated metastatic expansion of triple negative breast cancer (TNBC). Hence, inhibition of FAO through active CPT1 targeting could be a promising therapeutic approach in anti-TNBC therapies. Herein, we strategically synthesized a pyrene chain end labelled copolymer bearing biotin pendants, CP4, that actively targets CPT1 and efficiently blocks FAO in metastatic TNBC.

We present, for the first time, an efficient ligand-free iron-copper catalyzed cross-coupling reaction involving a variety of aryl, heteroaryl halides (including chlorides, bromides, and iodides), and alkyl bromides with diverse aryl and aliphatic primary amides, conducted under solvent-minimized conditions. This economically competitive protocol successfully yielded the corresponding cross-coupling products, N-arylamides and N-alkylamides, in good to excellent yields with broad substrate scope (65 examples) and tolerance to several sensitive functionalities (including heterocycles). No conventional work-up is required for this protocol, and the developed method is applicable for gram-scale synthesis.

Natural variations in gene expression, called noise, are fundamental to biological systems. The expression noise can be beneficial or detrimental to cellular functions. While the impact of noise on individual genes is well-established, our understanding of how noise behaves when multiple genes are co-expressed by shared regulatory elements within transcription networks remains elusive.

Bone ingrowth into a porous implant is necessary for its long-term fixation. Although attempts have been made to quantify the peri-implant bone growth using finite element (FE) analysis integrated with mechanoregulatory algorithms, bone ingrowth into a porous cellular hip stem has scarcely been investigated. Using a three-dimensional (3D) FE model and mechanobiology-based numerical framework, the objective of this study was to predict the spatial distribution of evolutionary bone ingrowth into an uncemented novel porous hip stem proposed earlier by the authors.

The high frequency of flood occurrences and the uneven distribution of hydrological stations make it difficult to monitor large-scale floods. Emergence of the Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment (GRACE) satellite system sets up a new era of large-scale flood monitoring without much reliance on in situ hydrological observations. The GRACE-derived flood potential index (FPI) exhibits its ability to monitor major events of 2003, 2004, 2007, and 2008 over the Indo-Gangetic-Brahmaputra Basin (IGBB).

Hypochlorite, as an important reactive oxygen species (ROS), plays a vital role in many physiological and pathological processes, but an excess concentration of hypochlorite (ClO) may become toxic to humans and cause disease. Hence, the selective and rapid detection of hypochlorite (ClO) is necessary for human safety. Here, we report a novel near-infrared (NIR) fluorescence "turn-on" and highly selective benzophenoxazinium chloride-based fluorescent probe, (benzophenoxazinium dihydroxy benzaldehyde), for hypochlorite detection.
