RNA viruses are a major group contributing to emerging infectious diseases and neonatal diarrhoea, causing morbidity and mortality in humans and animals. Hence, the present study investigated the metatranscriptomic-derived faecal RNA virome in rotavirus group A (RVA)-infected diarrheic piglets and calves from India. The viral genomes retrieved belonged to in both species, while were found only in piglets.

Background SARS-CoV-2 has evolved rapidly, resulting in the emergence of lineages with a competitive advantage over one another. Co-infections with different SARS-CoV-2 lineages can give rise to recombinant lineages. To date, the XBB lineage is the most widespread recombinant lineage worldwide, with the recently named XBB.

In India, studies on the epidemiological and genetic characteristics of enteric viruses in adults with acute gastroenteritis (AGE) are lacking. In this study, fecal samples (n = 110) from adults with acute gastroenteritis in Pune, Western India, were tested for six enteric viruses, and the prevalence of these viruses was as follows: rotavirus A (RVA), 38.5%; enterovirus (EV), 23.

There have been several reports across the globe regarding the presentation of a severe multi-system hyperinflammatory syndrome, resembling Kawasaki disease (KD), in the pediatric population during the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. The exact pathophysiology is still unclear; however, children typically demonstrate multi-organ dysfunction and less respiratory system involvement compared to adults. The limited literature is available at present for the identification and management of such patients.

Background The Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 infection was seen to be more infectious but less severe in children than adults with reduced hospitalization rates. There is a paucity of data on hospitalized children with confirmed Omicron variant. Objective We describe demographic, epidemiologic, clinical, radiological, laboratory features and outcomes of children with confirmed Omicron variant of SARS-CoV-2 infection admitted to a tertiary care teaching hospital in Pune, India.

Background: Acute respiratory infections (ARIs) and severe acute respiratory illness (SARI) are public health burdens globally. The percentage of non-SARS CoV-2 respiratory viruses among patients having ARI and SARI who visit Car Nicobar's hospital settings is undocumented. Changes in the epidemiology of other respiratory viruses during COVID19 pandemic is being reported worldwide.

Dengue and chikungunya are two important mosquito-borne infections which are known to occur extensively in tropical and subtropical areas. Presently, there is no treatment for these viral diseases. antiviral screening of 25 extracts prepared from the plants of , , , , , , , and using different solvents and four purified compounds (anacardic acid, chloroquinone, glaucarubinone, and methyl gallate) were carried out for their anti-dengue virus (DENV) and anti-chikungunya virus (CHIKV) activities.

Expansion of the measles and rubella laboratory network, India.

Bull World Health Organ

April 2022

Virology Unit, Division of Epidemiology & Communicable Diseases, Indian Council of Medical Research, V. Ramalingaswami Bhawan, P.O. Box No. 4911 Ansari Nagar, New Delhi - 110029, India.

Objective: To expand the measles and rubella laboratory network of India by integrating new laboratories.

Methods: In collaboration with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Indian government developed a 10-step scheme to systematically expand the number of laboratories performing serological and molecular testing for measles and rubella. The Indian Council of Medical Research and WHO identified suitable laboratories based on their geographical location, willingness, preparedness, past performance and adherence to national quality control and quality assurance mechanisms.

Uttar Pradesh is the densely populated state of India and is the sixth highest COVID-19 affected state with 22,904 deaths recorded on November 12, 2021. Whole-genome sequencing (WGS) is being used as a potential approach to investigate genomic evolution of the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) virus. In this study, a total of 87 SARS-CoV-2 genomes-49 genomes from the first wave (March 2020 to February 2021) and 38 genomes from the second wave (March 2021 to July 2021) from Eastern Uttar Pradesh (E-UP) were sequenced and analyzed to understand its evolutionary pattern and variants against publicaly available sequences.
