The considerable changes in lifestyle patterns primarily affect the human gut microbiota and result in obesity, diabetes, dyslipidemia, renal complications, etc. though there are few traditional safeguards such as herbal brews to maintain the ecological stability under intestinal dysbiosis. The present article is designed to collect all the scientific facts in a place to decipher the role of the Indian traditional herbal brews used to balance gut health for centuries.

Functional foods are considered the future of nutrition because they benefit human health and environmental sustainability. They offer natural solutions for managing post-prandial glycemia and its long-term consequences. Therefore, understanding the composition and inherent dynamics of the functional food matrix (FM) is crucial.

Brassica vegetables are one of the possible solutions to tackle the emerging human diseases and malnutrition due to their rich content of phyto-nutraceutaical compounds. The genomics enabled tools have facilitated the elucidation of molecular regulation, mapping of genes/QTLs governing nutraceutical compounds, and development of nutrient-rich Brassica vegetables. The enriched food products or foods as whole termed as functional foods are intended to provide health benefits.

Nitrogen (N) losses from conventional N fertilizers contribute to environmental degradation and low N use efficiency. Highlighting the need for slow-release fertilizers (SRFs) to mitigate these problems, this study aims to develop slow-release N fertilizers using starch-grafted-poly[(acrylic acid)--acrylamide] based nanoclay polymer composites (NCPCs) and investigate their efficacy for slow N delivery in soil. Three types of NCPCs, NCPC(A) (poly [(acrylic acid)--acrylamide]), NCPC(W) (wheat starch-grafted-poly[(acrylic acid)--acrylamide), and NCPC(M) (maize starch-grafted-poly[(acrylic acid)--acrylamide) were prepared and characterized using FTIR spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction techniques.

The present study aims at ideating a quantitative protocol to evaluate effectiveness of training programmes especially meant for farmers, farm women, and rural youth. The specific objective was to develop a robust framework for measuring the effectiveness of rural training programmes organized by the Farmers Training Centres (FTCs) of India. Kirkpatrick's training evaluation model provides us the foundation to design a four-dimensional composite framework based on range-based indicator normalization, principal component analysis based indicator weight estimation, and rank correlation based framework sensitivity testing.

Introduction: Wheat grain filling processes under post-anthesis stress scenarios depend mainly on stem traits and remobilization of stem water-soluble carbohydrates (WSC).
Methods: A diverse panel of advanced semi-dwarf spring wheat lines, representing a natural variation in stem traits (WSC content, stem diameter, peduncle length, and stem wall width), was used to identify specific traits that reliably reflect the relationship between WSC and grain yield. The panel was phenotyped under various environmental conditions: well-watered, water-limited, and heat stress in Mexico, and terminal-drought in Israel.

The autofluorescence-spectral imaging (ASI) technique is based on the light-emitting ability of natural fluorophores. Soybean genotypes showing contrasting tolerance to pre-germination anaerobic stress can be characterized using the photon absorption and fluorescence emission of natural fluorophores occurring in seed coats. In this study, tolerant seeds were efficiently distinguished from susceptible genotypes at 405 nm and 638 nm excitation wavelengths.

This pioneering study explores the structural intricacies of therapeutic β-glucan in Shiitake (), Lentinan (LNT). Lentinan, a neutral polysaccharide [β-(1,3; 1,6) glucan], exists in three forms; single, double, and triple-helical, but conformation-dependent bioactivity studies are lacking. In this context, we meticulously assessed indigenous Shiitake accessions from Northeast India, unveiling the conformational spectrum of LNT through an innovative pipeline.

Preliminary biochemical analyses, in terms of total chlorophyll, total proteins, and IAA were highest at 14 days after inoculation (DAI). In 20-25% higher values of reducing sugars, than at both 14 and 21 DAI were recorded.

Rice is a major staple food, and, hence, doubling its productivity is critical to sustain future food security. Improving photosynthesis, source-sink relationships and grain-filling mechanisms are promising traits for improvement in grain yield. To understand the source-sink relationship and grain yield, a set of contrasting rice genotypes differing in yield and biomass were studied for physiological, biochemical and gene-expression differences.

Rice is one of the apex food crops in terms of meeting the daily calorific and dietary requirement of the majority of the world population. However, rice productivity is severely limited by various biotic and abiotic attributes, causing a severe threat to global food security. In the use of functional genomics and genome editing for the generation of trait-enhanced genotypes, it is necessary to have an efficient genetic transformation and regeneration protocol.

Increasing complexity in crop nutrient requirement in intensive crop production systems needs alternate multi-nutrient sources. Polyhalite (POLY-4) which contains 14% KO along withcalcium (17% CaO), magnesium (6% MgO), and sulfur (19% S) can be a possible recourse in this regard. In maize-wheat systems, it was evaluated for productivity, profitability, nutrient usage, and nutrient use efficiency under Indo-Gangetic plain (IGP) zones for consecutive two years (2018-19 and 2019-20).

The climatic changes have great threats to sustainable agriculture and require efforts to ensure global food and nutritional security. In this regard, the plant strategic responses, including the induction of plant hormones/plant growth regulators (PGRs), play a substantial role in boosting plant immunity against environmental stress-induced adversities. In addition, secondary metabolites (SMs) have emerged as potential 'stress alleviators' that help plants to adapt against environmental stressors imposing detrimental impacts on plant health and survival.

Diazotrophic cyanobacteria are known to influence nutrient availability in soil, however, their benefits under elevated CO environment, particularly on fruit quality attributes, is a less investigated aspect. Laboratory developed cyanobacterium-fungal biofilm (An-Tr), composed of (An) as the matrix with the partner as (Tr), along with the individual partners were evaluated under ambient (aCO-400 ± 50 ppm) and elevated (eCO-700 ± 50 ppm) conditions, with and without tomato plants. An-Tr inoculation exhibited distinct and significantly higher values for most of the soil microbiological parameters, plant growth attributes and antioxidant/defense enzyme activities measured at 30 and 60 DAI (days after inoculation).

Ascariasis and intestinal parasitic nematodes are the leading cause of mass mortality infecting many people across the globe. In light of the various deleterious side effects of modern chemical-based allopathic drugs, our preferences have currently shifted towards the use of traditional plant-based drugs or botanicals for treating diseases. The defensive propensities in the botanicals against parasites have probably evolved during their co-habitation with parasites, humans and plants in nature and hence their combative interference in one another's defensive mechanisms has occurred naturally ultimately being very effective in treating diseases.

Seed color is one of the key target traits of domestication and artificial selection in chickpeas due to its implications on consumer preference and market value. The complex seed color trait has been well dissected in several crop species; however, the genetic mechanism underlying seed color variation in chickpea remains poorly understood. Here, we employed an integrated genomics strategy involving QTL mapping, high-density mapping, map-based cloning, association analysis, and molecular haplotyping in an inter-specific RIL mapping population, association panel, wild accessions, and introgression lines (ILs) of Cicer gene pool.
