Microtubule-associated protein tau (MAPT) is a key protein, which is mainly identified as an essential factor for microtubule dynamics and neuronal outgrowth. Though tau has several functions, regulation of insulin signaling is one among them to control type 2 diabetes. Abnormal expression of tau protein leads to hyperphosphorylation and is known as tauopathies.
