The "" under this Perspective underline the importance of interdisciplinary collaboration and partnerships across several disciplines, such as medical science and technology, medicine, bioengineering, and computational approaches, in bridging the gap between research, manufacturing, and clinical applications. Effective communication is key to bridging team gaps, enhancing trust, and resolving conflicts, thereby fostering teamwork and individual growth toward shared goals. Drawing from the success of the COVID-19 vaccine development, we advocate the application of similar collaborative models in other complex health areas such as nanomedicine and biomedical engineering.

This study aims to reduce engine emissions while maintaining engine performance and providing a sustainable fuel source for long-term use. It introduces a novel approach by combining pine oil (PO) and lemon grass oil (LGO) with diesel fuel in a specific ratio (10% PO + 10% LGO + 80% Diesel). This work is innovative in that it employs these two distinct low-viscosity biofuel blends in conjunction with diesel fuel in an agricultural engine, resulting in reduced carbon footprints in the tailpipe.

The electrochemical CO reduction reaction (CORR) is a promising approach to alleviating global warming and emerging energy crises. Yet, the CORR efficiency is impeded by the need for electrocatalysts with good selectivity and efficiency. Recently, single-atom catalysts (SACs) have attracted much attention in electrocatalysis and are more efficient than traditional metal-based catalysts.

A Co-Culture System for Studying Cellular Interactions in Vascular Disease.

Bioengineering (Basel)

October 2024

Department of Biotechnology, School of Bioengineering, SRM Institute of Science and Technology, Kattankulathur 603 203, Tamil Nadu, India.

Cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) are leading causes of morbidity and mortality globally, characterized by complications such as heart failure, atherosclerosis, and coronary artery disease. The vascular endothelium, forming the inner lining of blood vessels, plays a pivotal role in maintaining vascular homeostasis. The dysfunction of endothelial cells contributes significantly to the progression of CVDs, particularly through impaired cellular communication and paracrine signaling with other cell types, such as smooth muscle cells and macrophages.

A DC microgrid with renewable energy sources can achieve reduced current ripple, higher efficiency, faster dynamics, high voltage gain, and less operational stress by interfacing with an interleaved boost converter (IBC). The stability of an IBC linked to a DC microgrid supplying a constant power load (CPL) can be imperceptibly guaranteed by a conventional controller. A tightly regulated CPL with nonlinear and negative incremental impedance characteristics will lead to stability issues.

High mobility group box (HMGB) proteins belong to the high mobility group (HMG) superfamily of non-histone nuclear proteins that are involved in chromatin remodeling, regulation of gene expression, and DNA repair. When extracellular, HMGBs serve as alarmins inducing inflammation, and this is attributed to the proinflammatory activity of box B. Here, we show that Plasmodium HMGB1 has key amino acid changes in box B resulting in the loss of TNF-α stimulatory activity.

Article Synopsis
  • Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is a global health concern linked to high blood sugar levels and is influenced by gut microbiome metabolites, particularly imidazole propionate (Imp), which disrupt insulin signaling.
  • A proposed therapeutic vaccine targets the enzyme urocanate reductase (UrdA) in gut microbes that produce Imp, using immunoinformatics to identify safe and effective B and T cell epitopes, alongside adjuvants for improved immune response.
  • The research includes structural modeling, molecular docking studies to analyze vaccine interaction with immune receptors, and in silico cloning to ensure optimal expression of the vaccine, aiming to provide a new treatment option for T2DM.

Background: Mosquitoes are widespread globally and have contributed to transmitting pathogens to humans and the burden of vector-borne diseases. They are effectively controlled at their larval stages by biocontrol agents. Unravelling natural sources for microbial agents can lead us to novel potential candidates for managing mosquito-borne diseases.

Electrocatalytic nitric oxide reduction reaction (NORR) is a promising method for generating NH and eliminating harmful NO pollutants. However, developing a NORR catalyst for NH synthesis with low cost and high efficiency is still challenging. We here report a series of single-atom catalysts (SACs), designed by embedding nine different transition metals from Sc to Cu in S-vacant WS monolayer (TM@WS), and investigate the electrocatalytic performance for NORR process using the dispersion-corrected density functional theory (DFT) calculations.

Introduction: Glomerular podocytes are specialized epithelial cells localized to the blood-urine interface of the kidney. Podocyte slit-diaphragm (SD), a size-and-charge-selective junction, is instrumental in blood ultrafiltration and the formation of protein-free urine. The SD consists of macromolecular complexes of several proteins, such as nephrin, podocin, and CD2-associated protein (CD2AP).

Dental resin systems, used for artificial replacement of teeth and their surrounding structures, have gained popularity due to the Food and Drug Administration's (FDA) recommendation to reduce dental amalgam use in high-risk populations and medical circumstances. Bisphenol A (BPA), an endocrine-disrupting chemical, is an essential monomer within dental resin in the form of various analogues and derivatives. Leaching of monomers from resins results in toxicity, affecting hormone metabolism and causing long-term health risks.
