Background: Extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1 (ERK1) belongs to mitogen-activated protein kinases, which are essential for memory formation, cognitive function, and synaptic plasticity. During Alzheimer's disease (AD), ERK1 phosphorylates tau at 15 phosphorylation sites, leading to the formation of neurofibrillary tangles. The overactivation of ERK1 in microglia promotes the release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, which results in neuroinflammation.

Raoellidae are small artiodactyls from the Indian subcontinent closely related to stem cetaceans. They bring crucial information to understand the early phase of the land-to-water transition in Cetacea. If they are considered to be partly aquatic, the question of their dietary habits remains partly understood due to their "transitional" morphology.

The application of mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) as a drug carrier system got immense attention in the past few years due to their exceptional high drug loading efficiency. However, the process of drug loading is quite challenging compared to other lipid-based drug delivery systems. Hence, the MSNs using different catalysts were synthesized, and their mesoporous material characteristic was confirmed by the type IV adsorption-desorption isotherm using BET analyzer.

Biofilm formation, extracellular substance synthesis, and virulence factor production all have a major impact on drug tolerance and infection propagation caused by Staphylococcus aureus. Flavonoid compounds have been explored as potential solutions to enhance antibiotic efficacy against the biofilm formation of pathogenic microbes. Quercetin (QER) has previously demonstrated antibacterial and antibiofilm properties.

The expanding prevalence of microbial resistance to conventional treatments has triggered a race to develop alternative/improved strategies to combat drug-resistant microorganisms in an efficient manner. Here, the lethal impact of the biosynthesized gold nanoparticles (AuNPs) against multi-drug resistant (MDR) bacteria has been elucidated. AuNPs, synthesized from the extracts of the fruit, leaf and peel of the Citrus maxima plant, were physicochemically characterized by UV-Vis spectrophotometry, Dynamic Light Scattering (DLS), electron microscopy and spectroscopic techniques not only confirmed the production of AuNPs of size below 100 nm but also identified the phytochemicals adsorbed onto the surface of NPs.

Cell-free enzyme systems have emerged as a promising approach for producing various biometabolites, offering several advantages over traditional whole-cell systems. This study presents an approach to producing nicotinamide mononucleotide (NMN) by combining a Saccharomyces cerevisiae cell-free enzyme with a recombinant Escherichia coli cell-free enzyme. The system leverages the ATP generated by yeast during ethanol fermentation to produce NMN in the presence of nicotinamide (NAM) as a substrate.

Alzheimer's disease is a gradually advancing neurodegenerative disease. According to the report by "World Health Organization (WHO)", there are over 55 million individuals currently living with Alzheimer's disease and other dementia globally, and the number of sufferers is increasing every day. In absence of effective cures and preventive measures, this number is predicted to triple by 2050.

Drug resistance poses a major obstacle to the efficient treatment of colorectal cancer (CRC), which is one of the cancers that kill people most often in the United States. Advanced colorectal cancer patients frequently pass away from the illness, even with advancements in chemotherapy and targeted therapies. Developing new biomarkers and therapeutic targets is essential to enhancing prognosis and therapy effectiveness.

Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs) have proven to be an effective solution for chemical wastewater treatment, particularly for degradation of organic pollutants, especially dyes. Ozonation is recognized as one of the most prevalent AOPs. Nevertheless, some cases show a lowered efficiency of O utilization which is attributed to its inadequate distribution in the treated water causing low residence time, low mass transfer coefficient as well as shorter half-life.

Background: Monitoring vital signs in hospitalized patients is crucial for evaluating their clinical condition. While early warning scores like the modified early warning score (MEWS) are typically calculated 3 to 4 times daily through spot checks, they might not promptly identify early deterioration. Leveraging technologies that provide continuous monitoring of vital signs, combined with an early warning system, has the potential to identify clinical deterioration sooner.

Carbon dioxide (CO2) capture and its subsequent catalytic fixation into usable compounds represent a potential approach for addressing the energy problem and the implications of global warming. Hence, it is necessary to develop effective catalytic systems required for the transformation of CO2 into valuable chemicals/fuels. Herein, we rationally designed a hydroxyl-functionalized porous organic framework (OH-POF) consisting of both acidic (OH) as well as basic N sites for the transformation of CO2 using epoxides for the production of cyclic carbonates (CCs), a useful commodity chemical under environmental-friendly, metal/solvent/co-catalyst-free conditions.

The energy-exergy and environ-economic (4E) analysis was conducted on a solar still with and without a hybrid thermal energy storage system (TESS) and a solar air heater. The proposed solar still was modified by integrating a rectangular aluminium box filled with paraffin wax and black gravel as the TESS and coupled with a solar air heater. Paraffin wax was selected due to its widespread availability and proven effectiveness in accelerating desalination, improving process uniformity, and maintaining optimal temperature levels.

Heterogeneous catalysts have emerged as a potential key for closing the carbon cycle by converting carbon dioxide (CO) into value-added chemicals. In this work, we report a highly active and stable ceria (CeO)-based electronically tuned trimetallic catalyst for CO to CO conversion. A unique distribution of electron density between the defective ceria support and the trimetallic nanoparticles (of Ni, Cu, Zn) was established by creating the strong metal support interaction (SMSI) between them.

Cyclin-dependent kinases 4 and 6 (CDK4/6) are crucial regulators of cell cycle progression and represent important therapeutic targets in breast cancer. This study employs a comprehensive computational approach to identify novel CDK4/6 inhibitors from marine natural products. We utilized structure-based virtual screening of the CMNPD database and MNP library, followed by rigorous filtering based on drug-likeness criteria, PAINS filter, ADME properties, and toxicity profiles.
