"Tardive syndrome" is an umbrella term for a group of drug-induced movement disorders associated with the prolonged use of mainly dopamine receptor blockers and also other medications. Early recognition followed by gradual withdrawal of the incriminating drug may lead to reversal, although not in all patients. Tardive syndromes are usually mixed movement disorders, with specific phenotypes, which may lead to severe disability.

Introduction: Extracorporeal shock wave lithotripsy (ESWL) causes trauma to the renal parenchyma. Due to the kidney injury, free radicals are generated, and an inflammatory process develops. Inflammatory markers like interleukin's (IL), C-reactive protein (CRP), and procalcitonin (PCT) are released into the circulation.

Heteropolar two-dimensional materials, including hexagonal boron nitride (hBN), are promising candidates for seawater desalination and osmotic power harvesting, but previous simulation studies have considered bare, unterminated nanopores in molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. There is presently a lack of force fields to describe functionalized nanoporous hBN in aqueous media. To address this gap, we conduct density functional theory (DFT)-based ab initio MD simulations of hBN nanopores surrounded by water molecules.

Understanding the arrangement of ionic liquids at the interface and their interactions with the surface is crucial for enhancing selectivity in heterogeneous reactions for practical applications. In this study, we investigate the nature of the adsorption and structural orientations of a sulfonyl-based ionic liquid on platinum-based mono- and bimetallic (111) surfaces employing replica exchange molecular dynamics and first-principles density functional theory calculations. More than 30 confirmations of the ionic liquid are identified on both monometallic and bimetallic surfaces.

SYNGAP1 is a Ras GTPase-activating protein that plays a crucial role during brain development and in synaptic plasticity. Sporadic heterozygous mutations in SYNGAP1 affect social and emotional behaviour observed in intellectual disability (ID) and autism spectrum disorder (ASD). Although neurophysiological deficits have been extensively studied, the epigenetic landscape of SYNGAP1 mutation-mediated intellectual disability is unexplored.

We have developed efficacious routes toward the selective synthesis of two classes of compounds such as C-3 amino-methylated indoles and 4-indol-3-yl-methylanilines from the same precursors, namely, indoles and 1,3,5-triazinanes. It is reported that the controlled cleavage of 1,3,5-triazinanes can be effected by heat for the generation of aryl imine motifs, and we observed that the presence of Lewis acid influences the course of these transformations toward different products. The reaction toward indol-3-yl-methylanilines proceeds via a nucleophilic attack of indole to the aryl imine generated from the 1,3,5-triazinanes to form an amino-methylated product which undergoes a Lewis acid mediated Hofmann-Martius-type rearrangement.

All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology (Gynecologic Oncology), Rishikesh, Uttarakhand, India. Electronic address:

Objective: To isolate and quantify cell-free DNA, analysis for p53 mutations, and correlation with tumor burden in women with epithelial ovarian cancer compared with benign and borderline epithelial ovarian tumors.

Methods: In this case-control study, plasma samples of eligible women collected 1 hour before surgery and based on final histopathology, women with epithelial ovarian cancer recruited as cases and borderline, and benign ovarian tumors as controls. Cell-free DNA extracted from plasma serum and quantified using Nanodrop Spectrophotometer.

Background: Intralesional (IL) steroids are the first-line treatment option for localized alopecia areata (AA). The present study aimed to compare the efficacy of topical calcipotriol with IL triamcinolone acetonide versus IL triamcinolone acetonide alone in AA.

Methods: This randomized single-blinded clinical trial was conducted in a dermatology outpatient department.

The stability of α-crystallin, the major protein of the mammalian eye lens and a molecular chaperone, is one of the most crucial factors for its survival and function. The chaperone-like activity and stability of α-crystallin dramatically increased in the presence of Zn. Each subunit of α-crystallin could bind multiple zinc atoms through inter-subunit bridging and cause enhanced stability.

2-Arylbenzoxazinone undergoes direct -C-H thiolation by using diaryl disulfide in the presence of a Ru(II)-phosphine catalytic system and an Ag additive. The protocol has been generalized with benzoxazinone substrates having different substituents and a series of disulfides. -Selenylation has also been performed successfully using diphenyl diselenide under similar catalytic conditions.

Photocatalytic conversion of CO2 into value-added chemicals offers a propitious alternative to traditional thermal methods, contributing to environmental remediation and energy sustainability. In this respect, covalent organic frameworks (COFs), are crystalline porous materials showcasing remarkable efficacy in CO2 fixation facilitated by visible light owing to their excellent photochemical properties. Herein, we employed Lewis acidic Zn(II) anchored pyrene-based COF (Zn(II)@Pybp-COF) to facilitate the photocatalytic CO2 utilization and transformation to 2-oxazolidinones.

Increased virulence and drug resistance in species of resulted in reduced disease control and further demand the development of potent antifungal drugs. The repurposing of non-antifungal drugs and combination therapy has become an attractive alternative to counter the emerging drug resistance and toxicity of existing antifungal drugs against and non-albicans species. This study aimed to accelerate antifungal drug development process by drug repurposing approach.

January 2025

Centre for Endocrinology, William Harvey Research Institute, Barts and The London School of Medicine and Dentistry, Queen Mary University of London, London, UK.

Context: Pachydermoperiostosis (primary hypertrophic osteoarthropathy, PHO) usually due to biallelic loss-of-function variants in HPGD and SLCO2A1, has some features overlapping with acromegaly and often referred to endocrinologists. A detailed endocrine assessment is not available for these patients.

Objective: To assess the genetic and endocrine characteristics of PHO patients referred to endocrine centres with a possible diagnosis of acromegaly.

Nanotechnology and 3D bioprinted scaffolds are revolutionizing the field of wound healing and skin regeneration. By facilitating proper cellular movement and providing a customizable structure that replicates the extracellular matrix, such technologies not only expedite the healing process but also ensure the seamless integration of new skin layers, enhancing tissue repair and promoting overall cell growth. This study centres on the creation and assessment of a nanostructured lipid carrier containing curcumin (CNLC), which is integrated into a 3D bioprinted PLA scaffold system.

Renal histologic changes in congenital ureteropelvic junction obstruction (UPJO), although well documented, are sparsely studied in children. This study aims to establish a histological grading depending on the glomerular and tubulo-interstitial changes in hydronephrotic kidneys and determine correlation with age at surgery and impact on function post-pyeloplasty. A renal cortical wedge biopsy was obtained after pyeloplasty and histological changes were graded from 1 to 4.
