Endoplasmic reticulum (ER) is a specialized organelle that plays a significant role in cellular function. The major functions of ER include protein synthesis and transport, folding of proteins, biosynthesis of lipids, calcium (Ca) storage, and redox balance. The loss of ER integrity results in the induction of ER stress within the cell due to the accumulation of unfolded, improperly folded proteins or changes in Ca metabolism and redox balance of organelle.

This study explores the growing use of the internet in medical and educational contexts, particularly in resource-limited settings, where digital media enhances health knowledge dissemination and healthcare worker training. Focusing on the integration of spiritual care in nursing, the research emphasizes nurses' critical role in addressing patients' spiritual needs amid diverse cultural and religious backgrounds. Employing a qualitative methodology with purposive sampling and follow-up interviews, the study identifies educational gaps in nurses' ability to provide spiritual care via internet-based tools.

Oleanolic acid (OA) ischaracterized by its low water solubility, poor permeability and majorly metabolized by cytochrome P450 (CYP) isozymes in the intestinal tract, particularly CYP3A, which contribute to the low oral bioavailability. OA has multiple pharmacological actions including hepatoprotective, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic and antiviral effects. OA classified as a BCS IV drug which have restricted its potential clinical application.

We designed and built several triazolone-based dyes (TPA1-TPA5 and PTZ1-PTZ5) by modifying the structure around At-D-π-A. We studied how different donating and accepting groups affect the shape, energy levels, absorption spectra and photovoltaic behavior of these sensitizers using DFT and TDDFT calculations. We used selected functional methods to optimize the ground state of these sensitizer molecules.

Non-motor fluctuations in Parkinson's disease: frequency and clinical correlate.

J Neural Transm (Vienna)

March 2025

Department of Neurology, First Floor, Neurosciences Faculty Block, National Institute of Mental Health and Neurosciences (NIMHANS), Hosur Road, Bangalore, Karnataka, 560029, India.

Non-motor symptoms (NMS) occur in 60-97% of Parkinson's disease (PD) patients. NMS show fluctuations over the course of the day referred to as non-motor fluctuations (NMF). To assess the frequency, severity, predictors and effect of the NMF on the quality of life in PD patients.

It is believed that the larval stage infestation by Neurozerra conferta Walker of Aquilaria malaccensis trees followed by fungal infections assists in higher-quality agarwood formation. However, it remains unclear what these intricate interactions offer for higher-grade agarwood formation. In the earlier studies, fungal diversity associated with agarwood has been identified and their role in agarwood formation has been fairly well established.

Food and nutritional security are the top priorities in Indian agriculture. Exponential population growth coupled with climate change effects has become a serious challenge for sustainable agriculture. Genome editing has revolutionized the agricultural sector because of its ability to create precise, stable and predictable modifications in the genome and therefore, offers great opportunities for crop improvement in India.

The Global Influenza Hospital Surveillance Network: A Multicountry Public Health Collaboration.

Influenza Other Respir Viruses

March 2025

Foundation for Influenza Epidemiology, Fondation de France, Paris, France.

Respiratory viruses represent a significant public health threat. There is the need for robust and coordinated surveillance to guide global health responses. Established in 2012, the Global Influenza Hospital Surveillance Network (GIHSN) addresses this need by collecting clinical and virological data on persons with acute respiratory illnesses across a network of hospitals worldwide.

Background: Persons with serious mental illness (SMI) continue to be largely taken care of by their families in India. Religion-based explanatory models of illness and religious coping methods are commonly employed by caregivers to deal with the burden of caregiving. While there is evidence to support the positive impact of religiosity on caregiving, there are no qualitative studies that have explored these beliefs.

We present a case of a man in his early 50s, who developed severe respiratory distress following exposure to airbag fumes after a road traffic accident. Despite initial treatment for lower respiratory tract infection, his condition worsened, necessitating intensive care unit admission and mechanical ventilation (MV). Subsequent investigations ruled out infections, autoimmune causes and lung contusion, leading to a diagnosis of chemical pneumonitis secondary to sodium azide exposure.

A middle-aged man presented with a history of high-energy trauma with no open wounds, sustaining ipsilateral intertrochanteric and distal femur fractures with a patellar lower pole avulsion fracture. The patient underwent short proximal femoral nailing for intertrochanteric fracture, open reduction and internal fixation with plating for distal femur fracture and patellar tendon repair through transosseous tunnels in the patella.A precise clinical and radiological diagnosis followed by early management by internal osteosynthesis and early and adapted functional rehabilitation made it possible to obtain good long-term results.
