Anomalous brachiocephalic vein (ABCV) is a rare entity of head and neck venous channel variations and malformations. Amongst the five subtypes of ABVC, double left brachiocephalic vein (DLBCV) is the rarest. We present the case of a 1-year-11-month-old syndromic child, who had global developmental delay (GDD) with Sprengel deformity and failure to thrive (suspected Klippel Feil phenotype), who presented to us for the cardiac evaluation.

Aspiration pneumonia is a serious problem in the elderly due to weakened swallowing reflexes or underlying gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). This can lead to acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), which can become life-threatening, sometimes requiring extra corporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO) support. Lung transplantation is a possible therapeutic option for patients with no signs of lung recovery despite prolonged ECMO support.

Inferential statistics enable researchers to make predictions about a population based on sample data. This involves hypothesis testing where the null hypothesis assumes no effect, and the alternative hypothesis suggests a significant effect. Testing requires assumptions like normality and independence to be validated using tests like Shapiro-Wilk or Levene's for normality and variance.

Carotid artery stenting (CAS) has become a favoured alternative to surgical carotid endarterectomy (CEA) in select cases of critical internal carotid artery (ICA) occlusion. However, complications such as stent migration or entrapment can occur, necessitating prompt diagnosis and intervention. We present a case of a 75-year-old diabetic male who underwent CAS for recurrent presyncope at a private hospital, and during the procedure of CAS the stent was migrated and its proximal part was impacted in the critically narrowed part of the ICA.

Unlabelled: Testing methods of detecting various cardiac biomarkers play a significant influence in determining and treating cardiac-related conditions and ultimate prognosis. With the increasing global prevalence of cardiac disease, the importance of rapid testing methods in diagnosis and management has grown tremendously. The point-of-care testing (POCT) method is a potential biochemical diagnostic technique that may overcome the issue of delayed laboratory results, particularly in regions with limited access to advanced laboratory equipment or resource-constrained.

Background: Literature is not clear whether women experience increased mortality and adverse events after coronary artery bypass grafting (CABG). Studies have shown that women had comparative outcomes to men in off-pump CABG (OPCAB). Hence, we undertook this study to understand the short- and long-term outcomes of women compared to men after OPCAB.

Minimally invasive mitral valve surgery (MIMVS) is revolutionizing the field of cardiothoracic surgery by offering patients less invasive alternatives to conventional sternotomy. This article reviews recent research and studies on the outcomes, challenges, and considerations surrounding MIMVS. Comparative studies reveal that while MIMVS offers advantages such as shorter hospital stays and reduced recovery times, it shows no significant differences in mortality or long-term quality-of-life outcomes compared to traditional methods.

Left ventricular (LV) pseudoaneurysm, a rare occurrence, develops when a ruptured ventricle is encapsulated by the pericardium or scar tissue. Unlike free intrapericardial rupture, which often results in cardiac tamponade and fatal outcome, there are instances where the cardiac rupture remains contained, forming a pseudoaneurysm and averting immediate tamponade. We describe a 43-year-old male who underwent successful surgical repair of LV rupture following inferior wall myocardial infarction that resulted in the formation of a large pseudoaneurysm.

Unlabelled: In congenital heart surgery, redo-sternotomies are very common. In most cases, sternal re-entry is achieved without serious complications. However, sometimes elective institution of peripheral cardiopulmonary bypass is needed for safe sternotomy, albeit with a long cardio-pulmonary bypass time.

Context: Hemoglobinopathies are the most common heterogeneous group of monogenetic disorder in the world and its prevalence varies with geographical regions. India is developing country and many studies show a significant burden of hemoglobinopathies in India.
Aims: The aim of the present study was to check the prevalence of various hemoglobinopathies in anemic subjects using high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method in Pune region which has multiple ethnic population groups from all parts of India.

Karl Landsteiner discovered ABO blood group system in the early 20 century, but still, uncertainty remains in immunohematology while detection of ABO subgroups or weaker variants. The presence of weak subgroups in patient samples gives rise to the discrepancy in forward (cell) and reverse (serum) grouping. We here report a case of the B(A) phenotype in a patient who was diagnosed with chronic liver disease with acute pancreatitis, requiring packed red blood cells due to anemia.

Background: Examples of group B red cells that react weakly or not at all with anti-B have been described. Subgroups of B such as B, B, B, and B are rare and are less frequently reported. We studied the frequency of subgroups of B in our healthy blood donor population and serologically characterized and differentiated these subgroups.

Introduction: Neuromyelitis optica (NMO) is an idiopathic demyelinating disorder characterized mainly by optic neuritis and myelitis, causing gradual loss of vision and deterioration of neurological function. The underlying pathogenesis mainly involves antibodies against aquaporin 4. The effectiveness of therapeutic plasma exchange (TPE) has been shown by many studies across the globe but are only a few from India.

Noise in the immunohematological investigations can be described as a false reactivity of red blood cells (RBCs) in serologic testing that is not related to the interaction of RBC antigens and antibodies that the test system is intended to detect. These false-positive reactions can cause confusion during the cross-matching and RBC antibody screening and may result in delays in patient transfusion. Although these antibodies are predominantly clinically insignificant, proper laboratory work-up is indicated to avoid misidentification of a clinically significant antibody as a noise.

Introduction: Hemoglobin (Hb) estimation in blood donors is conducted using capillary samples on portable hemoglobinometers, representing measurement methods in practice. The reference standard is conducted using a venous sample on a hematology analyzer, representing the mentor measurement method or the true value. The correction involves the calculation of the secondary adjustment factor (SAF) to mitigate the difference between the two values.

Background: Transfusion is an integral part of supportive care in patients undergoing aggressive chemotherapy for acute myeloid leukemia (AML). As transfusion induces immune modulation, the objective of the study was to assess whether the intensity of red blood cell (RBC) and platelet (PLT) transfusion during induction chemotherapy influences complete remission (CR) and overall survival (OS) in newly diagnosed AML patients.
Methods: Details of the number of RBC units and PLT events transfused from diagnosis till completion of induction chemotherapy were collected.

A end is a weak subgroup of Blood group A, found rarely in general population, not detected by routine forward and reverse blood grouping, detected by Adsorption/Elution technique along with saliva testing for A, B and H antigens. Although it is subgroup of A but it lacks A antigen in saliva and contains only H antigen. A 25y/M was accepted for blood donation and showed weak/mf reaction with anti-A in forward grouping.
