Dicarboxylic acids (DCAs), with their deliquescence and hygroscopic nature, can function as cloud condensation nuclei (CCN) and ice nuclei (IN), affecting rainfall patterns. DCA analysis can serve as organic molecular markers for anthropogenic and biogenic sources. Very few studies deal with the optimization of the protocol for qualitative and quantitative analysis of DCAs using gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GC-MS).

Urban environments are heavily influenced by various activities, leading to contamination of water sources by emerging contaminants (ECs). Among these, caffeine (CAF) and N, N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET) are notable ECs frequently found in domestic sewage due to human activities. Despite extensive research on emerging contaminants, limited studies have focused on the seasonal variations, human health and ecological risks of CAF and DEET in urban groundwater, particularly in Indian cities.

Osteoporos Int

January 2025

Department of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Shanghai Institute of Endocrine and Metabolic Diseases, Ruijin Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai, China.

Backgroud: Hypoparathyroidism (hypoPT) is characterized by acute and chronic complications due to insufficient parathyroid hormone (PTH) production or action. GntR/FadR family featuring an N-terminal winged helix-turn-helix DNA-binding domain and a C-terminal α-helical effector-binding and oligomerization domain constitutes one of the largest families of transcriptional regulators. Several GntR/FadR regulators govern the metabolism of sugar acids, carbon sources implicated in bacterial-host interactions. Although effectors are known for a few sugar acid regulators, the unavailability of relevant structures has left their allosteric mechanism unexplored.

Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) or ribonucleic acid (RNA) sequence compressors for novel species frequently face challenges when processing wide-scale raw, FASTA, or multi-FASTA structured data. For years, molecular sequence databases have favored the widely used general-purpose Gzip and Zstd compressors. The absence of sequence-specific characteristics in these encoders results in subpar performance, and their use depends on time-consuming parameter adjustments.

Context: Postoperative pain occurs in 25%-60% of patients following endodontic treatment. It can significantly impact a patient's quality of life and requires timely management or, preferably, prevention.

Aims: The present systematic review was conducted aiming to analyze randomized controlled trials that compared postoperative pain in patients whose canals were shaped by XPS versus other endodontic file systems.

Context: One of the undesirable characteristics of dental composite resin is the polymerization shrinkage and the associated microleakage. The snowplow technique of placement and the preheating of the composite resins are methods to minimize microleakage.

Aim: The aim of this study was to comparatively evaluate microleakage in Class II cavities restored with snowplow technique using either preheated packable or flowable bulk-fill composite resin.

Treating apical fenestration in a previously endodontically treated tooth.

J Conserv Dent Endod

November 2024

Department of Conservative Dentistry and Endodontics, Yenepoya Dental College, Yenepoya (Deemed to be University), Mangalore, Karnataka, India.

Apical fenestration is a defect in the alveolar cortical plate, exposing the root without involving the alveolar bone margin, often linked to trauma, periodontal disease, and orthodontic treatment, leading to symptoms such as pain and abscesses from endodontic infections. This case report describes managing a mucosal fenestration in an endodontically treated tooth with nonsurgical root canal therapy and periodontal surgery. A 44-year-old male presented with mucosal fenestration and pain in the upper front jaw due to trauma and an inadequately treated root canal.
