Perspective of mesenchymal transformation in glioblastoma.

Acta Neuropathol Commun

March 2021

Department of Neurosurgery, Cancer Research Institute and Ischemic/Hypoxic Disease Institute, Seoul National University College of Medicine, Seoul, 03080, Korea.

Despite aggressive multimodal treatment, glioblastoma (GBM), a grade IV primary brain tumor, still portends a poor prognosis with a median overall survival of 12-16 months. The complexity of GBM treatment mainly lies in the inter- and intra-tumoral heterogeneity, which largely contributes to the treatment-refractory and recurrent nature of GBM. By paving the road towards the development of personalized medicine for GBM patients, the cancer genome atlas classification scheme of GBM into distinct transcriptional subtypes has been considered an invaluable approach to overcoming this heterogeneity.

Calcaneal bone cysts rarely occur and most of them are known to be benign. Among them, simple bone cysts (SBCs) third most commonly occur in the calcaneus and of the many surgical treatment options, endoscopic curettage is recently gaining popularity among surgeons due to its advantages of minimal invasiveness and optimal visualization. As for portal placement for endoscopy, two lateral portals are considered a standard technique, but no rationale has been established for SBCs with abnormal geometry.

Introduction: The objective of this study was to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of initiating treatment with tofacitinib and subsequently incorporating it into a conventional synthetic disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drug (csDMARD) treatment sequence and to compare the cost-effectiveness of this sequence with that of continuing csDMARDs alone in patients with active rheumatoid arthritis (RA).

Methods: A cohort-based Markov model was used to evaluate the cost-effectiveness of two tofacitinib treatment sequences compared with that of continuing the csDMARD treatment sequence over a lifetime. Of the two tofacitinib sequences, the first consisted of initial tofacitinib treatment followed by biologic DMARDs (bDMARDs) and the second consisted of csDMARD treatments followed by tofacitinib.

The role of ixekizumab in non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis.

Ther Adv Musculoskelet Dis

January 2021

Department of Rheumatology, Hanyang University Hospital for Rheumatic Diseases, 222-1, Wangsimni-ro, Seongdong-gu, Seoul, 04763, Korea.

Among patients with axial spondyloarthritis (axSpA), non-radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (nr-axSpA) is distinguished from ankylosing spondylitis (AS) by a lack of obvious radiographic changes in the sacroiliac joint. Tumor necrosis factor inhibitor (TNFi) has been used as a highly effective treatment in patients with AS and has shown good efficacy and safety in clinical trials in patients with nr-axSpA. As the pathophysiological mechanism for axSpA has started to become better recognized, various drugs other than TNFi, all of which are related to the interleukin-17 (IL-17) axis, are being evaluated in patients with axSpA.
