Background: Postmastectomy radiation therapy (PMRT) can influence the outcome of implant-based breast reconstruction (IBBR). This study aims to investigate the complications and patient-reported outcomes (PROs) following PMRT between direct-to-implant (DTI) and tissue expander-to-implant (TEI) reconstruction.
Methods: The retrospective study included breast cancer patients undergoing IBBR and PMRT.

Background Delivering care that is responsive to who or what is most important to patients and family caregivers is a key aspect of quality care, yet it remains unclear how clinicians can best support individuals in expressing their personal values. We aimed to describe patient- and family caregiver-identified facilitators and barriers to engaging in values discussions with clinicians following implantation of a left ventricular assist device (LVAD). Methods and results Using a qualitative descriptive approach, patients with an LVAD and their caregivers participated in one-on-one semi structured interviews and self-reported sociodemographics (January 2023-July 2023).

With the increasing use of cardiac electronic implantable devices in recent years, the identification of asymptomatic atrial arrhythmias, including atrial high-rate episodes (AHREs) and device-detected subclinical atrial fibrillation (SCAF), has become common in clinical practice. AHREs have potentially important clinical implications because they are considered precursors of atrial fibrillation (AF). Although to a lesser extent than clinical AF, both AHREs and device-detected SCAF are associated with thromboembolic events, however routine use of anticoagulants in these conditions is not recommended.

Background: Prior research suggests Black individuals have a lower risk of atrial fibrillation (AF) than White individuals, but this may be related to the underdetection of AF. Whether this trend persists using highly sensitive methods of AF diagnosis has not been well-studied.
Objectives: The objective of this study was to use cardiac implantable electronic devices (CIEDs) capable of AF diagnosis to compare AF incidence between Black and White individuals.

Although left ventricular assist devices (LVADs) are an alternative to heart transplantation, their artificial surfaces often lead to serious thrombotic complications requiring high-risk device replacement. Coating blood-contacting surfaces with antithrombogenic endothelial cells is considered an effective strategy for preventing thrombus formation. However, this concept has not yet been successfully implemented in LVADs, as severe cell loss is to be expected, especially on the impeller surface with high prothrombogenic supraphysiological shear stress.

A fraction of patients (approximately 10%) undergoing heart transplantation require permanent pacemaker (PPM) implantation due to sinus node dysfunction or atrioventricular block, occurring either shortly after surgery or later. The incidence of PPM implantation has declined to less than 5% with the introduction of bicaval anastomosis transplantation surgery. Pacing dependency during follow-up varies among recipients.

Background: Endoprosthetic knee replacement using megaprostheses has become a common strategy for preserving joint function in patients with distal femur tumors. While existing literature has primarily focused on surgical techniques, complications, and implants, recent improvements in patient survival rates have sparked increased interest in the long-term functional outcomes associated with this treatment.
Methods: This case-control study evaluated functional outcomes-Timed Up and Go (TUG), 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), knee flexor and extensor muscle strength, and sagittal knee range of motion-and health-related quality of life (SF-36) between patients with distal femoral megaprostheses (n = 31) and healthy controls (n = 48).

The Aim Of The Study: Was to determine the possibility of calculating the parameters of the occlusal surface of fixed dentures.
Materials And Methods: An analysis of dependence between the area of the occlusal surface and the area of the support structures (tooth root/implant), between the severity of the occlusal relief (tubercles of teeth) on the length of the root/implant was carried out.
Results: The nearness of the Kurlandsky periodontal coefficients and Oksman masticatory coefficients with the calculated coefficients obtained on the basis of 3D analysis of the lateral teeth anatomy has been established.

The Ross procedure provides young patients with unrepairable aortic valve disease with a living pulmonary autograft that confers significant survival benefit and improved quality of life. However, the procedure is complicated, and surgeons can be reluctant to offer it as a solution, especially in complex re-operative scenarios. We present a young patient with symptomatic, severe aortic insufficiency who had undergone two failed aortic valve procedures for congenital bicuspid aortic valve disease within the prior year.

Spinal cord stimulation (SCS) represents a therapeutic approach for chronic pain management in patients refractory to conventional treatments. By implanting electrodes in the epidural space, SCS aims to mitigate pain transmission to the brain through electrical stimulation, often resulting in sensory perceptions such as paresthesia. This study investigates the influence of electrode configurations on electrical parameters, including current density and electric potential, within the spinal cord environment.

Conservative treatment of clavicle fractures has the disadvantage of substantial pain and discomfort, whereas internal fixation of these fractures has a high rate of non-union. External fixation is an alternative method permitting early mobilization without disrupting the surrounding soft tissue envelope. These are extremely beneficial in young, athletic and highly functional patients as well as in patients with comminuted fractures.

Modern total hip arthroplasty (THA) is one of the most common and successful orthopedic procedures performed, utilizing a variety of fixation methods, stem geometry and designs to provide immediate post-operative weight bearing. The purpose of this study was to determine the incidence of intraoperative periprosthetic fractures, subsidence rates and aseptic loosening between collared stems compared with non-collared tapered stems during THA. A retrospective chart review identified 983 THA cases performed by a single surgeon between 2013-2021.

We sought to conduct a systematic review of the literature and a meta-analysis of post-operative outcomes following TKA with an all-polyethylene tibial (APT) or a metal-backed tibial component (MBT). A systematic review of the literature was conducted to identify all studies comparing APT and MBT for TKA based upon rates of complications, revisions, reoperation, and patient-reported outcomes. Data was pooled and relative risk of each outcome measure at short (< 5 year), mid (5-10 year), and long (> 10 year) follow-up was calculated.

Bioprinting has the potential to revolutionize tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, offering innovative solutions for complex medical challenges and addressing unmet clinical needs. However, traditionalbioprinting techniques face significant limitations, including difficulties in fabricating and implanting scaffolds with irregular shapes, as well as limited accessibility for rapid clinical application. To overcome these challenges, bioprinting has emerged as a groundbreaking approach that enables the direct deposition of cells, biomaterials, and bioactive factors onto damaged organs or tissues, eliminating the need for pre-fabricated 3D constructs.
