Wetting, Algebraic Curves, and Conformal Invariance.

Recent studies of wetting in a two-component square-gradient model of interfaces in a fluid mixture, showing three-phase bulk coexistence, have revealed some highly surprising features. Numerical results show that the density profile paths, which form a tricuspid shape in the density plane, have curious geometric properties, while conjectures for the analytical form of the surface tensions imply that nonwetting may persist up to the critical end points, contrary to the usual expectation of critical point wetting. Here, we solve the model exactly and show that the profile paths are conformally invariant quartic algebraic curves that change genus at the wetting transition.

Conjugated polymers (CPs) with polar side chains can conduct electronic and ionic charges simultaneously, making them promising for bioelectronics, electrocatalysis and energy storage. Recent work showed that adding alkyl spacers between CP backbones and polar side chains improved electronic charge carrier mobility, reduced swelling and enhanced stability, without compromising ion transport. This study evaluated the outcome and recurrence rates after hydrodilatation (HD) in patients with frozen shoulder (FS), comparing the effects of injecting 25 mL or more of fluid versus lower volumes. A total of 132 shoulders (130 patients) were treated at a shoulder clinic between August 2019 and February 2023. HD was performed under ultrasound guidance, injecting a combination of 40 mg Triamcinolone, 10 mL of local anaesthetic, and saline to a total volume of 10 to 40 mL based on patient tolerance.

This systematic review explores the association between herpes zoster (HZ) infection and Ogilvie's syndrome (acute colonic pseudo-obstruction), evaluating how varicella-zoster virus (VZV) reactivation may contribute to autonomic dysfunction leading to intestinal obstruction. A comprehensive search was conducted in PubMed, Scopus, and Cochrane Library databases up to October 2024, in accordance with the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. Pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) is defined as increase in mean pulmonary arterial pressure and pulmonary vascular resistance (PVR). It can be associated with congenital heart disease (CHD) with the following subtypes: 1) uncorrected left-to-right (L-R) intracardiac shunt leading to overload of the pulmonary circulation and a progressive increase of PVR; 2) Eisenmenger syndrome, appearing when a large post-tricuspid shunt is left uncorrected and pulmonary vascular disease (PVD) is severe, so the shunt becomes bidirectional or right-to-left, causing cyanosis; 3) PAH after shunt closure, when PVR arises after a defect correction; and 4) PAH associated with small or coincidental defects. While the treatment of patients with Eisenmenger syndrome is well established, the treatment of patients with PAH in whom there is a L-R shunt (with no cyanosis) remains unclear and requires expertise.
