Various cancer treatment approaches that inhibit the activity of the programmed death-1/programmed death-ligand 1 (PD-1/PD-L1) axis, a key player in tumor immune evasion, have been developed. We show that the immunomodulatory small tellurium complexes AS101 (ammonium trichloro(dioxoethylene-o,o')tellurate) and SAS (octa-O-bis(R,R)-tartarate ditellurane) suppress PD-L1 expression in a variety of human and mouse malignant cells via the modulation of α4β1 very late antigen- (VLA-4) integrin activity. Consequently, the expression of pAkt and its downstream effector pNFκB are inhibited.

Background: The tumor microenvironment (TME) of colorectal cancer (CRC) mainly comprises immune cells, stromal cells, tumor cells, as well as the extracellular matrix (ECM), which holds a pivotal position. The ECM affects cancer progression, but its regulatory roles and predictive potential in CRC are not fully understood.
Methods: We analyzed transcriptomes from CRC tumors and paired normal tissues to study ECM features.

Background: Immunoassay methods typically involve the use of antibodies, which are either labeled with an enzyme to generate a detectable product or directly tagged with a radioactive or fluorescent substrate.
Methods: One approach to enhance the specificity of immuno-detection methods is by employing a combination of different antibodies, such as primary and secondary.
Results: However, relying solely on one antibody targeting another may not offer the highest level of precision for improving immunoassay specificity; A novel strategy for enhancing the specificity of immunoassay techniques involves directly targeting different epitopes of an antigen.

Background: With the advance in single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) technology, deriving inherent biological system information from expression profiles at a single-cell resolution has become possible. It has been known that network modeling by estimating the associations between genes could better reveal dynamic changes in biological systems. However, accurately constructing a single-cell network (SCN) to capture the network architecture of each cell and further explore cell-to-cell heterogeneity remains challenging.

Apelin, a bioactive peptide that serves as an endogenous ligand for the apelin receptor (APJ), is overexpressed in various types of cancers and contributes to cancer cell proliferation, viability, migration, angiogenesis, and metastasis, as well as immune deviation. Noncoding RNAs (ncRNAs) regulate gene expression, and there is growing evidence suggesting a bidirectional crosstalk between ncRNAs (including long noncoding RNAs [lncRNAs], circular RNAs [circRNAs], and microRNAs [miRNAs]) and apelin in cancers. Certain miRNAs can directly target the apelin and inhibit its expression, thereby suppressing tumor growth.

Due to the heterogeneity of the tumor microenvironment, the clinical efficacy of tumor treatment is not satisfied, highlighting the necessity for new strategies to tackle this issue. To effectively treat breast tumors by tumor-targeted chemo/chemodynamic therapy, herein, the Fe-rich MIL-88B nanobullets (MNs) covered with hyaluronic acid (HA) were fabricated as vehicles of zoledronic acid (ZA). The attained ZA@HMNs showed a high ZA payload (ca 29.

Tuberculosis (TB) spreads through droplets that contain Mycobacterium tuberculosis (Mtb) and can infect susceptible people. Due to different risk factors, people have different susceptibility ranges towards TB. The risk factors are classified into three main groups, includ-ing bacterial, environmental, and host factors.

Objective: Recurrent spontaneous abortion (RSA) is defined as two or more pregnancy losses before 24 gestational weeks, accounting for 1-3% of fertile couples. A vast majority of single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in some () genes can change the miRNA-mRNA interaction and are associated with the risk of RSA. This study was designed to better elucidate the association between miR-27a, miR-499, and miR-146a polymorphisms and RSA risk.

Leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) is involved in the progression of different cancers. In this study, we investigated the effect of anti-LIF antibodies on immune-related gene expression in the Balb/c mouse model of breast cancer. To immunize mice against LIF, recombinant LIF with Freund adjuvant was injected into the test group, whereas the control group received phosphate-buffered saline with adjuvant.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a prevalent and intricate neurological condition resulting from a combination of several factors, such as genetics, environment, and the natural process of aging. Degeneration of neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SN) can cause motor and non-motor impairments in patients with PD. In PD's etiology, inflammation and mitochondrial dysfunction play significant roles in the disease's development.

MicroRNAs (miRNAs) are a group of small non-coding RNAs and play an important role in controlling vital biological processes, including cell cycle control, apoptosis, metabolism, and development and differentiation, which lead to various diseases such as neurological, metabolic disorders, and cancer. Chemotherapy consider as gold treatment approaches for cancer patients. However, chemotherapeutic is one of the main challenges in cancer management.

Background and aim Type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disorder characterized by the destruction of pancreatic beta cells, leading to insulin deficiency and hyperglycemia. Regulatory T cells (Tregs), particularly type 1 regulatory T (Tr1) cells, play a crucial role in modulating autoimmune responses. Therefore, this study aimed to evaluate the frequency of Tr1 cells and their association with aryl hydrocarbon receptor (AHR) and interferon regulatory factor-4 (IRF4) gene expression levels in type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM) compared to the healthy controls.

Breast cancer is considered as the most common malignancy in women and the second leading cause of death related to cancer. Recombinant DNA technologies accelerated the development of antibody-based cancer therapy, which is effective in a broad range of cancers. The objective of the present study was to perform a systematic review on breast cancer immunotherapy using single-chain fragment variable (scFv) antibody formats.

Dairy mastitis is one of the most common diseases in dairy farming, and the formation of pathogenic bacteria biofilms may be an important reason why traditional antibiotic therapy fails to resolve some cases of dairy mastitis. We isolated and identified three strains of were with strong biofilm forming ability from dairy cow mastitis samples from Chongqing dairy farms in China. In order to investigate the effect of novel anti-biofilm peptide CRAMP-34 on biofilms, the anti-biofilm effect was evaluated by crystal violet staining, biofilms viable bacteria counting and confocal laser scanning microscopy (CLSM).

Gastric cancer (GC) is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths worldwide because of its high morbidity and the absence of effective therapies. Even though paclitaxel is a powerful anticancer chemotherapy drug, recent studies have indicated its ineffectiveness against GC cells. Long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) PVT1 has a high expression in GC cells and increases the progression of tumors via inducing drug resistance.

Knowledge about the molecular mechanisms underlying the systemic inflammation observed in psoriasis remains incomplete. In this study, we applied mass spectrometry-based proteomics to compare the plasma protein levels between patients with psoriasis and healthy individuals, aiming to unveil potential systemically dysregulated proteins and pathways associated with the disease. Plasma samples from adult patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis vulgaris (N = 59) and healthy age- and sex-matched individuals (N = 21) were analyzed using liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry.

Parkinson's disease (PD) is a complex neurodegenerative disorder characterized by the accumulation of α-synuclein (α-syn) in the brain and progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra (SN) region of the brain. Although the role of neuroinflammation and cellular immunity in PD has been extensively studied, the involvement of humoral immunity mediated by antibodies and B cells has received less attention. This article provides a comprehensive review of the current understanding of humoral immunity in PD.
