Intestinal allografts, with many resident immune cells and as a destination for circulating lymphocytes of the recipient, appear to be the most challenging solid organ transplants. The high incidence of acute rejection and frequent reports of fatal graft-versus-host disease (GvHD) after intestinal transplantation call for more research to describe the molecular mechanisms involved in the immunopathogenesis of post-transplant complications to define new therapeutic targets. In addition, according to the rapid development of immunosuppressive agents, it is time to consider novel therapeutic approaches in managing treatment-refractory patients with rejection or severe GvHD.

Developing broad-spectrum influenza vaccines is crucial for influenza control and potential pandemic preparedness. Here, we reported a novel vaccine design utilizing circular RNA (circRNA) as a delivery platform for multi-subtype neuraminidases (NA) (influenza A N1, N2, and influenza B Victoria lineage NA) immunogens. Individual NA circRNA lipid nanoparticles (LNP) elicited robust NA-specific antibody responses with neuraminidase inhibition activity (NAI), preventing the virus from egressing and infecting neighboring cells.

Pro-fibrotic M2-like macrophages are widely implicated in the pathogenesis and progression of lung fibrosis due to their production of pro-fibrotic growth factors and cytokines. Yeast beta-glucan (YBG) microparticles have shown potential as immunomodulators that can convert macrophage polarization from a pro-fibrotic phenotype to an anti-fibrotic phenotype through the engagement of the Dectin-1 receptor. However, the processing conditions used to fabricate YBG microparticles can lead to unpredictable immunomodulatory effects.
