Objective: The research aims to evaluate short- and medium-term outcomes of patients treated using autologous matrix-induced chondrogenesis (AMIC) with a hyaluronic acid scaffold (Hyalofast, Anika Therapeutics, MA, USA) in grade IV chondral lesions according to the Outerbridge classification in the knee.

Methods: This is a multicentre, non-randomized, retrospective study conducted between 2017 and 2022. To determine the clinical outcome of the patients, the follow-up was done with the subjective International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) score, pre-surgery, and with a follow-up at 12, 24, and 32 months.

Unlabelled: Frontotemporal dementia (FTD) is a heterogeneous neurodegenerative disease of presenile onset. A better characterization of neurodegenerative disorders has been sought by using tools such as genome-wide association studies (GWAS), where associations between single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) and cognitive profiles could constitute predictive biomarkers for these diseases. However, in FTD, associations between genotypes and cognitive phenotypes are yet to be explored.

Brugada syndrome (BrS) is characterized by ventricular arrhythmias in patients without structural cardiac alteration. Some patients present repeated episodes of ventricular tachycardia. Epicardial catheter ablation makes it possible to decrease arrhythmic recurrence in these patients.

Acalvaria, also known as acrania, is a rare congenital anomaly which is characterized by a complete or partial defect of the calvarium. Due to the low number of patients reported, there is no a standard for the treatment of this condition; thereby, the objective is to present a new surviving patient with acalvaria and a novel surgical approach to treat it, giving craniofacial surgeons and neurosurgeons more tools to face it. In this article, the authors present a reproducible surgical approach in patients with partial acalvaria, which consist in use the present bone as a graft to cover the defect, giving a temporal but stable coverture.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide. Breast cancer is the most frequent cancer in women, and in recent years it has become a serious public health problem in Colombia. The development of large-scale omic techniques allows simultaneous analysis of all active genes in tumor cells versus normal cells, providing new ways to discover the drivers of malignant transformations.

Introduction: Cesarean scar pregnancy (CSP) is an uncommon entity, with high morbidity. Its diagnosis is difficult and delays in management are frequent. We report a series of cases of CSP and analysis of the differences in the outcomes depending on the moment of pregnancy in which they are treated.

Background: Psoriatic arthritis (PsA) is a challenging heterogeneous disease. The European League Against Rheumatism (EULAR) and the Group for Research and Assessment of Psoriasis and PsA (GRAPPA) last published their respective recommendations for the management of PsA in 2015. However, these guidelines are primarily based on studies conducted in resource replete countries and may not be applicable in countries in the Americas (except Canada and USA) and Africa.

Background: Until recently, Zika virus (ZIKV) infections were considered mild and self-limiting. Since 2015, they have been associated with an increase in microcephaly and other birth defects in newborns. While this association has been observed in case reports and epidemiological studies, the nature and extent of the relationship between ZIKV and adverse pregnancy and pediatric health outcomes is not well understood.

Background: Endocardial cardiac resynchronization therapy (eCRT) avoids the limitations and failures of coronary sinus (CS) resynchronization. However, data regarding long-term outcomes are lacking.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to report the long-term outcome of eCRT performed using the Jurdham procedure in a real-world setting.

Simple craniosynostosis is a cranial disease characterized by the premature closure of the cranial sutures, it develops during the first years of life and affects 1 in every 2000 to 2500 births worldwide (1). The cranial growth alteration occurs as parallel flattening to the compromised sutured with compensatory bulging in a perpendicular vector. Currently, The Suturectomy is the gold validated surgical treatment, that besides the dynamic Cranioplasties of multiples revolutions allows the design of bone flaps and therefore the correction of the secondary deformities caused by the synostosis.

Purpose: To describe and correlate with age the histopathologic findings observed in a group of specimens obtained from patients who underwent high condylectomy.

Materials And Methods: In this cross-sectional study, 27 condylar specimens from patients with facial asymmetry, suspected condylar hyperplasia (CH), and a positive diagnosis by single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) were evaluated. Histopathologic variables measured in the mandibular condyles were thickness of fibrous, proliferative, and hyperplasic cartilage layers and total tissue thickness.

Unlabelled: The goal of this study is to evaluate the functional results of the modified Judet quadricepsplasty for a knee extension contracture secondary to prolonged external fixation. This is a retrospective study of 31 patients with the diagnosis of an extraarticular knee extension contracture who had prolonged external fixation of the femur. Functional assessment was conducted after a minimum follow-up of 1 year.

The method of osteogenesis by distraction is a known technique in orthopaedics for the management of bone defects secondary to trauma, infections or tumours. New strategies have been developed for decreasing the external fixator time. The use of the minimally invasive plate osteosynthesis technique is a secure approach through a percutaneous fixation technique in the anterior aspect of the femur that permits minimal dissection of the soft tissues while preventing cross-contamination with the pin tracts of the external fixators.

November 2014

*Starzl Unit of Abdominal Transplantation †Department of Pathology ‡Department Immunology, and §Department of Experimental Surgery, University Hospitals Saint-Luc, Université catholique Louvain (UCL), Brussels, Belgium ¶Department of Liver Transplantation, University of Sao Paulo (USP), Sao Paulo, Brazil ‖Department of Surgery, Section of Transplantation, Wake Forest School of Medicine, Winston-Salem, NC **Hepatobiliary Unit, Imbanaco Medical center, Cali, Colombia.

Objective: To investigate the safety of minimal immunosuppression (IS) in liver transplantation (LT).

Background: The lack of long-term follow-up studies, including pathologic data, has led to a protean handling of IS in LT.

Methods: Between February 2000 and September 2004, 156 adults were enrolled in a prospective, randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled minimization trial comparing tacrolimus placebo (TAC-PLAC) and TAC short-term steroid (TAC-STER) IS.
