Objective: Despite the advances in treatment, breast cancer (BC) remains a major cause of death in women. This study aims to evaluate the prognostic significance of detecting circulating tumor cells (CTCs) and disseminated tumor cells (DTCs) in paired peripheral blood (PB) and bone marrow (BM) samples obtained both before and after adjuvant chemotherapy from patients with operable BC.
Materials And Methods: In this experimental study, from 160 patients with primary BC, we collected 160 PB and BM samples before and we could be able to collect PB and BM samples from 100 of them after adjuvant chemotherapy.

Introduction: The present study was conducted to compare the effects of clonidine and tranexamic acid on the volume of bleeding and quality of the surgical field in terms of bleeding in candidates who underwent rhinoplasty.
Methods: In this two-sided clinical trial, candidates eligible for rhinoplasty were randomly assigned to two treatment groups: tranexamic acid and clonidine. The first group received tranexamic acid at a dose of 700 µg/kg of body weight 2 hours before the surgical procedure, whereas the second group received clonidine orally at a dose of 2 mg/kg of body weight, 90 minutes before surgery.

Recently, a growing focus has been on identifying critical mechanisms in neurological diseases that trigger a cascade of events, making it easier to target them effectively. One such mechanism is the inflammasome, an essential component of the immune response system that plays a crucial role in disease progression. The NLRP3 (nucleotide-binding oligomerization domain, leucine-rich repeat, and pyrin domain containing 3) inflammasome is a subcellular multiprotein complex that is widely expressed in the central nervous system (CNS) and can be activated by a variety of external and internal stimuli.

Glutathione S-transferase theta 1 (GSTT1) enzyme plays a key role in the neutralization of electrophilic compounds such as carcinogens. Herein, we aimed to evaluate GSTT1 deletion polymorphism and susceptibility to head and neck carcinoma (HNC) according to 107 articles in a systematic review with five analyses. The databases of PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, Scopus, and Cochrane Library from the beginning of each database until June 21, 2023, with no restrictions to identify pertinent articles.

Background: Follistatin-like proteins (FSTLs) are adipomyokines secreted by adipocytes and myocytes. Previous studies have reported an increase in circulating FSTL1 levels in response to cardiovascular injuries. In this study, we conducted a systematic review and metaanalysis to assess the association between circulating FSTLs and Cardiovascular Diseases (CVDs).

Background: Parkinson's disease (PD) is a neurodegenerative disorder characterized by motor and non-motor symptoms, and is due to the degeneration of dopaminergic neurons. It is multifactorial, caused by genetic and environmental factors and currently has no definitive cure. We have investigated the protective effects of parthenolide (PTN), a compound with known anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, in an in vitro model of PD, that is induced by 6-OHDA, and that causes neurotoxicity in SH-SY5Y human neuroblastoma cells.

Background: Chronic granulomatous disease (CGD) is a rare disorder normally diagnosed in infancy.
Case Presentation: A 27-year-old man admitted with non-specific symptoms of CGD first underwent endoscopy, and colonoscopy procedures as primary evaluation of clinical presentation. Eighteen months after the first admission, he was referred to the emergency department for hematemesis, and critical situations, such as a severe anemic with Hgb= 2.

Background: Given the evolving application and promising outcomes of direct oral anticoagulants (DOACs) in various thromboembolic conditions, we aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of DOACs with warfarin in the post-acute treatment of cerebral venous sinus thrombosis (CVST) using clinical and radiological parameters.
Methods: A total of 140 CVST patients were enrolled, with 95 receiving warfarin and 45 receiving DOACs as post-acute treatment. Clinical and imaging parameters of the patients in follow-up visits were investigated, including the last modified Rankin Scale (mRS), venous thromboembolic events, CVST recurrence, mortality rate, recanalization status, and hemorrhagic events, to compare the efficacy and safety of treatment between the two groups.

Background: The rising prevalence of familial multiple sclerosis (MS) in Iran has spurred interest in the potential impact of parental consanguinity on the risk of developing the disease. This study aims to aggregate current knowledge on parental consanguinity and its possible effect on MS risk, particularly among familial MS patients from various regions and ethnicities in Iran. The objective is to enhance the understanding of MS genetics and encourage further research in this field.

Key Clinical Message: Clinicians should consider spontaneous coronary artery dissection in middle-aged women presenting with acute coronary syndromes and a history of tamoxifen use, to ensure timely diagnosis, and appropriate management strategies.
Abstract: Spontaneous coronary artery dissection (SCAD) is characterized by a non-iatrogenic, nontraumatic separation of the coronary artery wall, contributing to acute coronary syndromes (ACS), and sudden cardiac death. SCAD predominantly affects the left anterior descending artery (LAD) and is frequently observed in middle-aged women.

Objective: The present study examined effects of resistance training (RT) and resveratrol (RES) alone and together on acrylamide (AC)-induced memory impairment in rats.
Materials And Methods: Animals were divided into 6 groups: (1) Control group which received normal saline intraperitoneally (ip) daily for 8 weeks; (2) Scopolamine (SCO) group which received SCO (1 mg/kg/day, ip) for 8 weeks; (3) AC group which received AC (5 mg/kg/day, ip) for 8 weeks; (4) AC + RT group which received AC (5 mg/kg/day, ip) for 8 weeks and performed RT (5 days a week for 8 weeks); (5) AC + RES group which received AC (5 mg/kg/day, ip) and RES (1 mg/kg/day, ip) for 8 weeks; and (6) AC + RT + RES group which received AC (5 mg/kg/day, ip) and RES (1 mg/kg/day, ip) for 8 weeks and performed RT (5 days a week for 8 weeks). On day 53, animal training began in the Morris Water Maze (MWM) and 24 hr after the last training, the probe test was performed.

Background: Complementary medicine is an interesting field for extracting bioactive compounds from various plant and animal sources. The hepatoprotective effect of the methanolic extract of a species of sea cucumber called Holothuria leucospilota in an animal model of liver cancer caused by dimethyl nitrosamine (DMN) was studied.
Methods: Wistar female rats were randomly divided into five groups (n = 12): control (intact), positive control (received 1% DMN [10 mg/kg/week, intraperitoneally] for 12 weeks), and three treatment groups (received 50, 100, and 200 mg/kg/day H.

Objectives: Nitric oxide is the most important mediator of penile erection after the onset of sexual excitement. It activates cyclic guanosine monophosphate (cGMP), increasing penile blood flow. Most pharmaceutical medications prevent enzyme phosphodiesterase type 5 (PDE-5) from breaking down cGMP, thus keeping its level high.

The formation of fibrotic bands in female reproductive system, including the uterus, after abdominal and pelvic surgeries, is an important medical challenge associated with many complications, including infertility and pain. Investigating the role of different molecules involved in fibrosis and adhesion formation may help in the development of new drugs to prevent this disorder. Lysyl oxidase-like 2 (LoxL2) is a copper-dependent enzyme that catalyzes the cross-linking of collagen and elastin fibers in the extracellular matrix (ECM) to stabilize ECM.
