Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a devastating kind of dementia that is becoming more common worldwide. Toxic amyloid-beta (Aβ) aggregates are the primary cause of AD onset and development. Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) have received a lot of interest in AD therapy over the last decade because of their ability to redirect the Aβ fibrillation process and improve associated brain dysfunction.

Background: Necrotizing enterocolitis (NEC) is a multifactorial disease primarily affecting infants with very low birth weight (VLBW). Research has shown that the pathogenesis of NEC is associated with abnormal bacterial colonization. Synbiotics, dietary supplements containing probiotics (beneficial bacteria) and prebiotics (non-digestible food), can alter the gut microbiome.

Background: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the most important comorbid condition in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients. Dysregulated expression of non-coding RNA families has a critical role in RA-associated inflammatory events, including cardiovascular manifestations. The long non-coding RNA (lncRNA)- HIX003209 has a role in RA associated inflammation.

Purpose: To evaluate the effect of night shifts on the biomechanical properties of the cornea using Scheimpflug camera-based imaging (Corvis and Pentacam).

Methods: Thirty-four participants from the medical staff who had at least six night shifts per month as a case group and fifty-two participants as a control group participated in the study. The biomechanical characteristics of the cornea using the Corvis device and the topographical characteristics of the cornea using the Pentacam device were investigated in the participants.

Introduction: It is well known that peripheral artery disease (PAD) and coronary artery disease (CAD) coexist and therefore, patients diagnosed with PAD have an increased chance of developing concomitant CAD. CAD-related complications could be a leading cause of postoperative mortality in individuals with PAD undergoing vascular surgery. We present a case series of 48 patients who underwent coronary angiography before vascular surgery and an updated review of previous reports to determine the prevalence of concomitant CAD in a convenience sample of Iranian patients.

Article Synopsis
  • - Paraquat (PQ) is a toxic herbicide that can cause serious lung issues, but Crocus sativus (Cs) has shown promise for treating related respiratory problems due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties.
  • - This study aimed to assess how Cs extract and pioglitazone (Pio) can prevent lung damage and inflammation caused by PQ exposure in rats, comparing their effects to dexamethasone (Dexa).
  • - Results indicated that treatments with both Cs and Pio improved lung health and function, with the combination showing the most significant benefits, suggesting Cs could be a viable alternative to traditional treatments like Dexa.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the levels of interleukin-6 (IL-6) and interleukin-10 (IL-10), along with the expression of various genes associated with immune regulation, in newly diagnosed rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients before and after treatment with DMARDs compared to healthy individuals.
  • - Results indicated that RA patients had significantly higher IL-6 levels and lower IL-10 levels before treatment, but IL-6 decreased and IL-10 increased post-treatment with DMARDs, showing an improvement in their inflammatory profiles.
  • - Gene expression analysis showed that certain regulatory genes (FoxP3, Sema-3A, Nrp-1) were upregulated after treatment, indicating a beneficial effect

Purpose: The potential dietary inflammatory index (DII) and the phenomenon of obesity have been linked in recent studies, but it is unclear whether this connection is dependent on metabolic status. Therefore, it was thought that this research would be useful in establishing the relationship between obesity phenotypes and DII.

Methods: The 5956 people who took part in the Ravansar non-communicable diseases (RaNCD) cohort research (MHNO) were put into four groups: metabolically unhealthy obesity (MUO), metabolically healthy obesity (MHO), metabolically unhealthy non-obesity (MUNO), and metabolically healthy non-obesity.

Paraquat (PQ) is an herbicide toxin that induces injury in different organs. The anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects of carvacrol were reported previously. The effects of carvacrol and pioglitazone (Pio) alone and their combination on inhaled PQ-induced systemic and lung oxidative stress and inflammation as well as behavioral changes were examined in rats.

Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has had a profound impact globally, presenting significant social and economic challenges. This study aims to explore the factors affecting mortality among hospitalized COVID-19 patients and construct a machine learning-based model to predict the risk of mortality.

Methods: The study examined COVID-19 patients admitted to Imam Reza Hospital in Tabriz, Iran, between March 2020 and November 2021.

Article Synopsis
  • Chronic inflammation, particularly through interleukin-6 (IL-6), is linked to both rheumatoid arthritis (RA) and cardiovascular disease (CVD), with IL-6 levels correlating to joint damage and disease severity.
  • A study involving 60 RA patients and 30 healthy controls found that IL-6 levels were significantly higher in RA patients, correlating with several CVD risk assessment tools (Framingham Risk Score and SCORE) and markers like NT-proBNP and HS-CRP.
  • The findings suggest that elevated IL-6 may serve as a potential biomarker for predicting cardiovascular risks in patients with rheumatoid arthritis.

Post-surgical adhesion is a medical challenge, especially following abdominal and pelvic surgeries. This refers to the formation of fibrotic scars that form from connective tissue in the gynecological tract or abdominal cavity. Dysfunctional adipose tissue (AT) by surgical injuries and hypoxia increases the risk of post-surgical adhesion through different molecular mechanisms.

Introduction: Weight regain and insufficient weight loss are major challenges after metabolic bariatric surgery (MBS), affecting patients' comorbidities and quality of life. The current systematic review and meta-analysis aim to assess the efficacy and safety of GLP-1 receptor agonists (GLP-1 RA) in patients with weight regain or insufficient weight loss after MBS.

Methods: A systematic search was conducted across PubMed, Embase, Scopus, and Web of Science databases to find the relevant studies.

Introduction: High metastasis, resistance to common treatments, and high mortality rate, has made triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC) to be the most invasive type of breast cancer. High telomerase activity and mitochondrial biogenesis are involved in breast cancer tumorigenesis. The catalytic subunit of telomerase, telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT), plays a role in telomere lengthening and extra-biological functions such as gene expression, mitochondria function, and apoptosis.

Background And Aims: Breast cancer (BC) is considered one of the most common malignant tumors leading to death in women, and genetic factors have a crucial role in BC pathogenesis. Zyxin (ZYX) is one of these factors that may be important in p53 level and function. Thus, the present work aimed to investigate the ZYX gene and protein expression in tumor tissue and matched margin tissue and its correlation with the p53 expression.

Background: Degenerative lumbar spinal stenosis (LSS) is a common condition that involves the narrowing of the spinal canal. Diagnosing instability traditionally requires standing lateral radiographs to detect dynamic translation, but there is debate about relying solely on radiographs due to challenges like patient discomfort and radiation exposure. This study aimed to evaluate if Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) findings could effectively diagnose instability observed on radiographs.
