Salinity adversely affects the plant's morphological characteristics, but the utilization of aqueous algal extracts (AE) ameliorates this negative impact. In this study, the application of AE derived from and strains effectively reversed the decline in biomass allocation and water relations, both in normal and salt-stressed conditions. The simultaneous application of both extracts in salt-affected soil notably enhanced key parameters, such as chlorophyll content (15%), carotene content (1%), photosynthesis (25%), stomatal conductance (7%), and transpiration rate (23%), surpassing those observed in the application of both AE in salt-affected as compared to salinity stress control.

Performance evaluation of drilling fluids is essential for a successful drilling project, as they not only remove drill cuttings but also prevent undesired penetration or outflow of formation fluids by sealing off wellbore walls. However, concerns have been raised about the use of chemical additives in drilling fluids due to their toxicity and non-biodegradability. To this end, agricultural waste materials are recognized as a promising alternative as they are cost-effective, environmentally sustainable, and can be used as a substitute for lost circulation materials.

Article Synopsis
  • Electroencephalography (EEG) is a method used to study human behavior by monitoring brain activity during various tasks, while machine learning (ML) helps recognize these activities.
  • This study aimed to see how well an EEG-based ML model could categorize daily activities like resting, walking, and reading, and to use explainable AI techniques to understand which EEG features were most important in these classifications.
  • The research involved 75 healthy participants and found that ML models like Random Forest and Gradient Boosting performed excellently in differentiating activities, with clear correlations found between machine learning results and EEG spectral data, suggesting potential benefits for healthcare and rehabilitation applications.

Magnetic solid phase extraction of aminoglycosides residue in chicken egg samples using FeO-GO-Agarose-Chitosan composite.

Food Chem

January 2024

Department of Chemistry, College of Science, Imam Muhammad Ibn Saud Islamic University (IMSIU), Riyadh 11623, Saudi Arabia; Chemistry Department, Faculty of Science, Benha University, Benha 13518, Egypt.

Difficulties in identification of drug residues in food products arise due to their trace amounts in complex matrices. An eco-friendly and low-cost agarose-chitosan-magnetic graphene oxide based adsorbent was synthesized and employed for determination of aminoglycosides from chicken egg samples through HPLC. Synthesized adsorbent was characterized by SEM, FTIR, XRD, and VSM.
